Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen

Many thanks to the Committee for inviting me to award my first set of tickets at their show. And thanks to my very able stewards, Tracey and Martin who kept the ring flowing.

I was pleased to see a lovely entry, most of whom were groomed correctly to the breed standard and there were some difficult choices.

Veteran Dog 3 (0)

1st Bartley’s Erylan Zeus Roi Des Dieux ShCEx. 7-year-old male presenting a lovely outline of the breed example. Breed standard head with sufficient neck. Good shoulder lay and return. Elbows tight, ribbed well back and strong loin. Rear angulation excellent, tail well set and carried well. Moved with reach and drive, holding topline well. BV

2nd Lewis’s Ch Tangaer Bryntelych. 8-year -old male of slightly smaller overall dimensions than 1. Lovely expression and kind eye. Tight elbows with good shoulder. Compact in ribbing with well angulated rear. Moved well but lost topline at times.

1st Gilluley & Allen’s Ballencrief Berneray. 8-month-old male of good height. Lovely head with slight dome. Good length of neck into well laid shoulder. Well ribbed back. Loin needs to be stronger but may come with maturity. Rear angulation and tail set excellent. Good close harsh coat. Moved with reach and drive, keeping topline. A good prospect but would not want any more leg.

2nd Spencer’s Hightimbers Peter Pan. 7-month-old male who appears finished. Head a little fine for a male exhibit. Good length of neck, although appears short owing to untidy coat. Good angulation throughout. Carrying slightly too much weight, not helped by coat abundance. Coat harsh but needs tidying.

1st Brown’s Finger Lickin. 16-month-old male who is a lovely example of this happy breed. Good breed head with dark pigmentation. Lovely reach of neck and excellent shoulder lay. Good tight elbows. Well ribbed back into strong loin. Rear angulation excellent and hocks parallel. Tail set excellent. Good harsh coat and level topline. Moved with excellent reach and drive, holding topline. Pleased to also award DCC

2nd Brown’s Vysaris Baccus Dieu Du Vin. 14-month-old male with good breed head. Neck could be longer. Shoulder lay good but elbows could be tighter on the move. Rear angulation good but a little close behind on the move. Good topline which was held on the move. Good harsh coat.

1st Scott’s Overbecks Finn Shelby. 2-year-old male, quite raw in appearance. Head good with decent reach of neck. Shoulders excellent and return of arm tight to body. Well ribbed and good loin. Rear angulation excellent, coat close and harsh. Moved with reach and drive, holding topline.

2nd Guernari & Dane’s Cynetkoy’s Tinker Tailor. 3-year-old male with breed head and nice length of neck. Shoulder lay excellent into level topline. Slightly longer in loin than 1. Rear angulation excellent and hocks parallel. Moved well, holding outline. Coat well-presented.

1st Bartley’s Erylan Poseidon De La Mer JW ShCEx OSW. 2-year-old male with excellent breed head. Lovely length of neck and well laid shoulder. Elbows tight and ribbed well back. Short strong loin and excellent bend of stifle. Topline level and held on move, which showed great reach and drive. Good harsh coat. A very happy exhibit. RDCC

2nd Dalgaron’s Ch Vencharno Stuck On You. 3-year-old male. Another excellent breed head and good reach of neck. Elbows could be slightly tighter on the move. Ribbed well back and loin short and strong. Rear angulation excellent. Coat much harsher than it appears. Moved with reach and drive, holding level topline

1st Scott’s Ch Overbecks Kathy Tiere. 9-year-old bitch with very feminine head. Good length of neck into well laid shoulder. Long in ribs and loin. Rear angulation excellent. Moved well, but topline dipped markedly. Coat beginning to feel softer.

2nd Moulding’s Nykarth Perfect Moment. 7-year-old bitch who was upset by the tannoys today, affecting her movement. Very pretty bitch with overall good construction, although neck could be longer. Well ribbed back but carrying a little too much weight. On the move, elbows could have been tighter and very close behind, but difficult to assess properly owing to demeanour.

1st Huikeshoven & Allenby’s Jour Apres Jour Twice As Nice. 8-month-old bitch who appears complete. Mature with excellent breed head, good reach of neck and correct front assembly. Well ribbed with strong loin. Rear angles excellent. Coat harsh. Moved with great reach and drive, holding outline and using well set on tail constantly. RBCC & BP

2nd Jones’s La Vie Est Belle. 6-month-old bitch. Very raw. Feminine head with excellent reach of neck. Shoulder well laid and good return. Loin needs to be stronger. Rear angulation excellent. Moved well, holding outline. A good prospect which will be interesting to see again once ribs spring and she matures.

1st Whiting’s Glanbeuno Toute Seule. 13-month-old bitch with pretty head and overall feminine appearance. Neck good length. Shoulders slightly upright. Long in ribs and loin. Rear angles sufficient. Level topline with correct tail set. Happy mover but could have had more reach.

2nd Crowe’s Maudaxi Indy Rocknroll At Elsfie. 13-month -old bitch with feminine head. Lovely length of neck and shoulder lay. Topline level, well ribbed back with decent loin and excellent rear angulation. Topline held on the move, but sadly not happy today and tail not carried.

1st Scott & Brundle’s Overbecks Ruby Shelby. 19-month-old bitch with feminine head and excellent pigmentation. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulder. Good return of arm and tight elbows. Well ribbed back into short strong loin. Excellent rear angulation. Good harsh coat. Moved with reach and drive, holding level topline.

2nd Lewis’s Tangaer Iced Gem. 23-month-old bitch with another excellent feminine head. Good reach of neck with excellently laid shoulder. Longer in ribs than 1, good strong loin. Rear angulation good. Moved well. Best harsh coat of the day so far

1st Moulding’s Nykarth Touch of Class. 3-year-old bitch. Pretty head on sufficient neck. Shoulders slightly upright and a little short in upper arm. Long in rib with muscular loin. Topline level but hidden under coat over loin and croup. Rear angulation sufficient. Happy on the move.

2nd Whiting’s Erylan Bohemian Rhapsody At Glanbeuno. 3-year-old bitch again with a feminine head on sufficient neck. Slightly upright in shoulder, ribbed well back into loin which could be stronger. Good harsh coat. Unfortunately crabbing on the move today.

1st Cadmore’s CH Soletrader Splish Splash JW. 23-month-old bitch presenting a fabulous example of the breed throughout. Beautiful feminine head into long neck with excellently laid shoulder. Ribbed well back into short strong loin. Angle of stifle excellent and hocks parallel. Tail set excellent. Harsh coat, well-presented but not overdone. Moved with great reach and drive, holding topline BCC, BOB and Hound G3

2nd Reid’s Maudaxi Joanie Loves Chacha JW. 2-year-old bitch who was not giving her handler an easy time today. Feminine head on long neck. Shoulders well laid and elbows tight. Well ribbed and loin strong. Rear angulation good, although tail set could be a little better. Harsh coat. Moved with reach and drive.
