CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

SUNDAY 27TH APRIL 2025

COLLIE (ROUGH)

I was honoured by a wonderful entry of 110 dogs (119 entries) on what turned out to be a beautiful day both with the weather and the overall quality of the dogs, all of the dogs were presented well groomed by their owners/handlers, I was exceptionally pleased and a lot of decisions were made with the finest of margins. I really wish to thank all exhibitors for their entry and to also thank my excellent Stewards Pat and ‘Phil’ for being just brilliant.

OPEN BITCH - 8/2 absent

1. Mrs A Kokkonen & Mrs N Skalin – FI/NO/LT/LV/EE CH SKABONA TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE – Well, what do I say about this almost 3 year old, beautifully presented shaded sable bitch? On my notes along with ‘stunning’, I have ‘WOW’ and Wow she certainly is. I have seen some wonderful collies and indeed on this day I was spoilt for choice as there were so many quality collies presented to me, but I have not seen a rough collie of this high quality and as close to the breed standard for many, many years but this one I personally feel, is as close as a rough collie could get. This bitch has nothing out of place, she has the charisma of ‘look at me’ and exudes quality and dignity from every bone in her body. This is a true Rough Collie without exception. I could go through and say excellent to all her points from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail, but there is no need, this shaded sable bitch to me, is the breed standard personified. And then to watch her move …. Her correct movement is effortless due to her excellent conformation. In the Challenge for Best of Breed I asked the handlers to take the dogs round twice, if it had not been a hot day, I would have loved to see them go round more times!! Both CC winners moved with grace and dignity, but this bitch excelled. Not only did I award her the Bitch CC but also BEST OF BREED and so very well deserved. In the huge quality Pastoral Group this bitch was shortlisted of which I was very proud. Her Kennel Name is ‘Too Good To Be True’, a very apt name as this rough collie is a dream. Thank you for bringing her and also huge credit to her breeder for breeding such quality.

2. Mr JR & Mrs M & Mr A Walsh – SKABONA WHAT A LADY AT JOSHREN – A lovely clear silver blue bitch of 5 years. Excellent head with a wonderful expression, lovely head planes, well set ears carried well, lovely length to neck, well placed shoulders, good chest, lovely length of back with a solid topline. Another quality bitch who moved beautifully.

3. C & J Llewellyn – ARTZAIAK STRAWBERRY ROSE FOR SALSINA (Imp Esp)
