WEST OF ENGLAND COLLIE SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

SUNDAY 20TH JULY 2025

A great venue with a wonderful friendly atmosphere and a quality entry, with probably the best Smooth Collies currently being shown in this Country being entered, so some difficult decisions with dogs being separated by the finest points on the day and I could have given many more top awards than were available. My thanks to the wonderful committee for the invitation and hospitality and thank you to my excellent young steward Amy.

COLLIE (SMOOTH)

Veteran Dog (1/0 abs)

1st Mrs JM & Mr RJ Denton – CH. BRACKENHAYE FIELDS OF GOLD – Shaded Sable/White dog of 9 and half years, has a fabulous head shape, still holding an excellent lip line, good underjaw, well placed eye of good shape and colour, well set and tipped ears, good backskull and length of neck into well placed shoulders, lovely correct front and rear angulation which shows in his movement, holds a good topline on the move, moved out well in this class but seemed to have lost interest when it came to the challenge for BD and BVIB. Best Veteran Dog.

Puppy dog (0/0 abs)

Junior Dog (0/0 abs)

Post Graduate dog (1/0 abs)

1st Mr A & Mrs S Metcalf – KOCZKODAN WELL I NEVER – 2 year old well groomed tri colour dog with a lovely black coat, head properties are ok with a kind eye but I would prefer a tighter lip line and he currently flares slightly in backskull but given a bit more time to come together and mature hopefully his foreface will fill out more to compensate and give the wedge shape desired, has a good length of neck and back and has a decent bend of stifle and holds a good topline on the move, he could do with filling out in forechest and slightly more coverage needed overall but these males can take time to mature. Moved well.

Limit Dog (2/1 abs)

1st Mrs JM & Mr RJ Denton – RYLANCE MOONSHINE OVER BRACKENHAYE – Blue Merle Dog of almost 7 years of age, decent colour blue, has a good fill of foreface and nice wedge shape head from all angles and decent eye placement and shape of eye, however I would prefer more definition of stop. Ears well positioned and tipped, nice length to neck, decent forechest and front and rear angulation enabling him to move out well.

Open Dog (3/0 abs)

A lovely class of all top quality males, other breeders really should look at these dogs as blueprints for the future.

1st Mr T & Mrs B Hayward – WYNELE DOUBLE TROUBLE AT FOXEARTH – A young sable/white dog approaching 20 months of age but with pure quality running throughout his veins. This Dog oozes quality and showmanship, there is nothing over exaggerated, he has correct and extremely pleasing head properties, a correct wedge from all angles, good dentition and well defined lip line, good underjaw, good foreface, correctly placed stop, a kind and attentive eye of excellent shape, well placed and tipped ears, has good backskull leading into a good length of neck and correctly placed shoulders, good return of upper arm, good chest for one so young as well, decent correct bone, good length of back with a solid topline and lovely bend of stifle, well muscled thigh giving him power and drive on the move. Standing in profile he is a silhouette of breed standard. Without hesitation, I was pleased to award him the Dog CC and Best of Breed. I later watched him declared BEST IN SHOW and very worthy he is too!

2nd Mrs K & Mr M Martin – CH STURTMOOR ARCEUS’S LEGACY JW – Upstanding Sable/White dog of 2 years of age, another with quality properties about him, again has a lovely head and expression, very attentive to his handler, good lip line and dentition, decent underjaw, nice eye shape, well set ears, lovely length of neck into good shoulders, nice length of back, lovely angulation front and rear and good muscle, good length of tail, moved out well with excellent topline. Another of whom in silhouette shouts breed standard, pleased to call him back in to the challenge to award him the Reserve Dog CC

3rd Miss J Sewell – CH WYNELE STRIKE IT RICH TO LEWARNE JW – Another top quality dog, stunning tri colour, one of whom I have always admired but today he did not seem to want to show his virtues off. A wonderful Smooth Collie nevertheless.

Veteran Bitch (3/2 abs)

1st Miss S Flower – CH BRECKAMORE BUTTERFINGERS ShCM ShCEx - 9 and half year old tri colour bitch who is in fantastic condition with the blackest of jackets, this lady has a lovely head with a kind eye, excellent stop, and correct ear set giving her a wonderful feminine expression, she has an excellent fill of chest and well sprung ribs, really good topline with excellent bend of stifle, lovely angulations both front and rear with good length to tail, extremely light and easy movement around the ring enhances her correct construction. Best Veteran Bitch and Best Veteran in Breed.

Puppy Bitch (0/0 abs)

Junior Bitch (1/1 abs)

Post Graduate Bitch (1/0 abs)

1st Mr J Rundle – SHULUNE IMPERIAL BONNY BLU – 20 month old blue merle bitch of good clear blue, she has a sweet expression with a nice dark eye and good ear set with nice front and rear angulation and good length of tail, however, I would like more of her overall as she is currently slightly narrow through and could benefit from slightly more underjaw but has time on her side to mature into a lovely smooth collie. Moved very well.

Limit Bitch (2/1 abs)

1st Mrs DA Cole & Miss JM Fort – SHULUNE IMPERIAL RUM PUNCH JW – 20 month old tri colour feminine bitch. Lovely black coat in excellent condition, has a lovely head with a good eye, well placed stop and excellent ear carriage, nice crest and length of neck, has good spring of rib with lovely front and rear angulation and lovely bend of stifle leading to well let down hocks. Good length to tail, A lovely young promising bitch who is pushing hard and very soon going to worry the best I am sure. Very happy to present her with Reserve Bitch CC today. Well deserved.

Open Bitch (4/0 abs)

A wonderful class of top drawer bitches.

1st Ms A French – INT/BEL/FR/NL/LUX/GER CH INDIGO AURA AGREE TO DISAGREE WITH BRECKAMORE – Beautiful feminine 4 year old tri colour bitch, has lovely correct head properties from all angles with a lovely tight lip line and good dentition and with the best almond shape dark eye I believe I have seen on a smooth collie, excellent angulations front and rear, good bone, good length of back and tail, really well muscled, excellent mover and you just know this lady could work all day if asked. Could not be denied the Bitch CC and Reserve Best of Breed. This I was informed after judging is her 3rd UK CC so adds another title (subject to RKC approval) to the many that go before and very well deserved!

2nd Mrs JM & Mr RJ Denton – CH BRACKENHAYE HEART AND SOUL – 5 year old tri colour bitch who again oozes quality from head to toe and has excellent angulation fore and aft with a lovely strong topline and moves extremely well, but today I preferred the eye shape and the lip line of 1.

3rd Mrs SM Beeney – CONEYPARK GOLDEN BROWN

Mrs. Cathy Howard
