My thanks to the Committee of South Wales Kennel Association for the invitation to judge and to the exhibitors for their entries. It’s 2 years since I watched Frenchies in the ring in the UK so wasn’t sure what I would find. Overall, I was pleased with the quality of the dogs, but a couple of classes were very disappointing. Breathing was a lot better than when I last judged and nostrils were not as pinched. We are not any further forward with the development of tails and whilst this takes time it would appear to not be a priority for breeding. In many, we are losing the square between the front legs to tall narrow rectangles as legs lengthen and ribs narrow. There were no examples of the ultra-short sternums seen previously which led to insufficient length of rib so necessary to protect vital organs. Toplines have generally settled but quite a few couldn’t hold the topline on the move. Rear movement has improved from when `I last judged. Quite a few light eyes are appearing and whilst this is a difficult trait to lose once it is in a line, it really does spoil the expression. Temperaments, as always were excellent. French Bulldog - Minor Puppy Dog Entries: 2 Absentees: 0 1ST 260 - Membully The Sting of Wisdom (Mrs H Barrett) Dark Brindle who is very much a raw baby. He has a delightful expression, and his head is developing well. The head is square with appropriate fine wrinkling. Good bone and straight front with good rear angulation. A little unbalanced at the moment and topline needs to settle. 2ND 304 - Damada Plinio (Imp Ita) NAF TAF (Miss Y, Mr R & Mr K Tonkin & Pellow). Not as good in head as 1st. Good bone, well rounded ribs and short loin. Little untidy in front movement today. 85. French Bulldog - Puppy Dog Entries: 3 Absentees: 0 1ST 303 - Olijah Going in Deep (Miss O Timms). What a cracking puppy! This young dark brindle has everything I was looking for today. He has the best of heads with a most endearing expression from a good upturn of jaw and darkest of eyes. And well-placed ears. Visible square muzzle and open nostrils. Correct eye shape, fine wrinkling to skull and well developed cheeks. Excellent bone and neat tight feet. Well rounded ribs and short loin giving the ideal top line and underline. He has a strong well muscled rear that enabled him to power around the ring. This boy was handled to perfection to enable me to see him at his best every time I looked at him. His movement is free flowing and precise. His topline is held on the move giving a lovely profile. Immaculately presented. BP & RCC & delighted, but not surprised, to see him go BPIS. Congratulations. 2ND 274 - Chelmbull Olijah Top Gun (Mr D & Miss A Cund). Another top-class puppy. Double hooded pied. Beautiful head and delightful expression. Dark eyes with full pigment. Good upturn of jaw with correct layback. Clear coat, presented in immaculate condition. Excellent bone and straight front into neat feet. Good rib and sufficient loin. Gently flowing topline with slight rise and well-rounded croup. Good rear angulation with good width of thigh. Moved very well around the ring. This young man should also have a very bright future. 3RD 294 - Khanin His A Very Naughty Boy (Mr R, Mrs M & Mrs J D Smith & Pratt) 86. French Bulldog - Junior Dog Entries: 3 Absentees: 0 1ST 286 - Xandene Toffee Fudge at Casemates (Mr J & Mrs E Kelly) Black Masked fawn with lovely square head .Good depth of muzzle and open nostrils. Sufficient wrinkling giving a gentle expression. Dark eyes, well placed ears. Lovely dark pigment with the bonus of black nails. Well rounded ribs and correct topline Moved well around the ring. 2ND 271 - Halloxwishes Ernesto Cruz (Mrs Y & Mr L & Mr C Cox) Dark brindle. Lovely square head but ears not used to advantage. Straight front legs of good bone into neat feet. Well developed ribs but a little long in loin. Good rear angulation and good depth of thigh. Movement a little erratic today. 3RD 295 - Khanin Nudge Nudge Wink Wink (Mr R, Mrs M & Mrs J D Smith & Pratt) 87. French Bulldog - Yearling Dog Entries: 4 Absentees: 1 1ST 269 - Myntie Pure Magic (Mrs J Cole) Brindle with excellent head and lovely expression. Well placed ears. Good front and well-rounded ribs. Good strong rear with well rounded rump. Moved well. 2ND 311 - Jafrak Sugar Ray for Gwynsel JW (Miss S Williams). This young black masked fawn exhibited the Frenchie temperament to excess. A little wriggle bottom on the table he was such a happy young man. He has a lovely head and such a comical expression with his mischievous dark eyes. Good ear placement. Good length of neck and well rounded ribs. Unfortunately, today he was not cooperating with his handler and his rear movement was difficult to assess. 3RD 271 - Halloxwishes Ernesto Cruz (Mrs Y & Mr L & Mr C Cox) 88. French Bulldog - Post Graduate Dog Entries: 2 Absentees: 0 1ST 291 - Membully Razzmataz at Ellouab JW (Mrs D Smith). Lovely well marked brindle. Good square head, dark eyes and broad skull. Excellent rib, short loin. Well off for bone and neat feet. Well balanced cobby boy who moved soundly. 2ND 288 - Castrum Osinium Rule My World (Imp Hrv) (Mrs J Morgan-Ling) Dark brindle. Well padded muzzle but would prefer more padding to cheeks. Dark eyes and well-defined stop. Well ribbed, moved ok but didn’t appear overly happy today. 89. French Bulldog - Limit Dog Entries: 5 Absentees: 2 1ST 284 - Oschalben Olympus JW (Miss S Hutchinson). Dark Brindle with a lovely square head. Darkest of eyes and well padded cheeks. This young man is so well balanced with good rib, good length of leg and short loin. He has a good topline and correct underline. Good rear angulation. Moved well. 2ND 276 - Bincombefarm Morsmordre JW (Mrs K & Mr N & Miss K P French). Lovely striped brindle. Not as balanced as 1st but a lot to like about him. He doesn’t have the square between front legs as he is a tad long in leg. Lovely head and soft expression. Deep ribcage giving a marked tuck up. well-rounded rump. Excellent mover in good hard condition. 3RD 281 - Xandene It’s A Kinda Magic at Balistix (Mr Pd & Mrs S Hunt) 90. French Bulldog - Open Dog Entries: 5 Absentees: 2 1ST 293 - Ch Khanin Gunner Make It (Mr R, Mrs M & Mrs J D Smith & Pratt). I’ve not had a chance to go over this Champion before only ever seeing him once in the ring at Crufts as a puppy. At that time, I hoped he wouldn’t grow much more but was impressed by his head. Well, his head is even better now he has fully matured and he didn’t grow anymore! Just my ideal Frenchie. He has a very gentle expression that is all masculine. Extremely well balanced and sound throughout. Beautiful square head with good muzzle and well padded cheeks. Well placed ears and fine wrinkling on his skull. Excellent bone, neat feet and good rear angulation. Excellent rib and strong loin. Delightful topline and pleasing underline. Moved soundly both front and rear. CC & BOB 2ND 279 - Ch Bevanray Terrypendry JW (Mrs B Hucker). Lovely Pied boy who was my RCC last time I judged. He has matured into a very handsome boy. Clear double hooded pied with a lovely square head. Well placed ears and darkest of eyes. Sufficient wrinkling. Strong neck into well placed shoulders. Sufficient bone for size. Good rib and short loin. Extremely well balanced. Called in for RCC but he was out moved by the puppy. 3RD 264 - Ch Archness The Audacity JW (Miss V Bryant) 93. French Bulldog - Minor Puppy Bitch Entries: 2 Absentees: 0 1ST 308 - Aldhammill's Lucie Locket at Gailbulls (Mrs G & Mr D Westmorland). Lovely pied puppy with the sweetest of expressions. Classic head with good upturn of jaw, dark eyes and fully pigmented eye rims. Still needs to develop in body as she is very lean looking at the moment. Lovely topline. Excellent rear movement. Nails could be shorter. 2ND 290 - Membully Aim to Teeze at Ellouab (Mrs D Smith). Dark brindle that is still developing. Head needs to fill out. Lovely rib and sufficient loin. Good bone. Moved ok. 94. French Bulldog - Puppy Bitch Entries: 2 Absentees: 0 1ST 301 - Olijah Coming for You (Miss O Timms) Brindle, Lovely head and pleasing expression. Excellent nostrils and visible muzzle that is deep and wide. Well placed ears. Well placed shoulders, straight forelegs with desired square between. Well rounded ribs. Short loin and super topline held on the move. Moved with a free-flowing gait around the ring. BPB. 2ND 285 - Casemates Dream Maker (Mr J & Mrs E Kelly) Pleasing fawn girl but lighter eyes slightly spoiled expression. She has a good shaped head with well placed ears and correct muzzle. Sufficient wrinkling. Good rib, good depth of thigh. Neat feet. Moved soundly. 95. French Bulldog - Junior Bitch Entries: 5 Absentees: 0 1ST 297 - Beaufrogz Thats My Girl (Miss M Stidwell) Dark brindle with a sweet feminine expression. Dark, well set eyes. Well placed ears. Cobby body with well-rounded ribs and good bone. Sufficient neck into smooth topline that had a gentle rise over the loin. Moved extremely well. 2ND 280 - Oschalben Olissa at Bevanray (Mrs B Hucker). Smaller type than 1st and very compact. Good upturn of jaw, lovely dark eye. Sweetest of expressions, exhibiting lots of personality. Good rib but would prefer more length to loin that would help give her topline a bit more shape. Moved well. 3RD 289 - Xandene Caramel Fudge (Mr G & Mrs B Morison) 96. French Bulldog - Yearling Bitch Entries: 3 Absentees: 0 1ST 278 - Bestfrenchie Henia at Bevanray (Mrs B Hucker). Clear coated pied. Lovely dark eyes, Good dentition. Sufficient wrinkle. Well placed ears. Good shoulder placement and straight front. Well ribbed. Great front movement but a little untidy in rear today. 2ND 309 - Gailbulls Its Edith (Mrs G & Mr D Westmorland). Pied with some visible ticking. Lovely shaped head with a gentle expression. Well placed nose and dark eyes. Good front and well ribbed back. Good overall balance. Moved ok. Nails could be shorter. 3RD 270 - Halloxwishes Elena Coco (Mrs Y & Mr L & Mr C Cox) 97. French Bulldog - Post Graduate Bitch Entries: 5 Absentees: 0 1ST 296 - Rischale Esmeralda (Miss Z & Miss K Smith & Watt) Dark brindle. Lovely feminine square head. Good upturn of jaw. Her muzzle is visible, wide and deep. Well-developed cheeks and dark eyes. Open nostrils. Well-rounded ribs, correct length of loin. Excellent rear angulation. Moved extremely well. 2ND 272 - Princess Warrior Mulan at Halloxwishes (Mrs Y & Mr L & Mr C Cox). Dark brindle with lovely feminine expression. Her head is a good shape with well defined muzzle. Good rib, short loin. A lot to like about this lady but she wasn’t so keen to show herself to advantage. 3RD 268 - Membully Bedazzled with Myntie JW (Mrs J Cole) 98. French Bulldog - Limit Bitch Entries: 9 Absentees: 4 1ST 266 - Archness The Vivacious (Miss V Bryant). Fawn with a lovely head that is not overdone in anyway. Dark eyes, well defined muzzle. Well sprung ribs and sufficient loin. Well rounded croup and good rear angulation. Perhaps carrying a bit too much weight today. Good rear movement. 2ND 283 - Gailbulls Miss Gabrielle for Oschalben (Miss S Hutchinson). Lovely pied with a clear coat. Good upturn of jaw and dark eyes. Ideal size and shape. Moved soundly both ways. 3RD 310 - Ravenside Indian Summer at Gailbulls (Mrs G & Mr D Westmorland) 99. French Bulldog - Open Bitch Entries: 7 Absentees: 1 1ST 300 - Ch Budbulls Maximum Impact for Olijah JW (Imp Srb) (Miss O Timms). This brindle girl is so well made and so feminine. I awarded her her first RCC as a puppy and I’m delighted to see how well she has matured. Her head is correct for size and shape, and she has a most appealing gentle expression. Well defined muzzle, open nostrils and marked stop. Soft wrinkling and well-set ears. She is an ideal size and packs a lot of power into her solid frame. She has a lovely topline that is held as she powers round the ring. Another from this kennel expertly handled to get the best out of her. Not only is she a commensurate showgirl she can also produce well, being the mother of my Best Puppy winner. BCC. 2ND 292 - Ch Rischale Henrietta at Ellouab JW (Mrs D Smith). This brindle girl is so well made but she does not show herself to advantage. Whilst some will show their qualities off well with this girl you really have to look at her. She has a lovely square feminine head with a gentle expression. She has good shoulder placement and the desired square between the front legs. She is very well balanced with good rib, good bone and neat feet. She has good depth of thigh and good rear angulation. Everything is in the right place with the correct proportions.
