I would like to thank the Royal Kennel Club for the invitation to judge my favourite breed at this prestigious event and for their wonderful and efficient organisation of such a show. My two amazing stewards Shirley Hockenhull and Penny Forrest who ably managed to keep me to a tight schedule and always have the next classes ready to come into the ring. They did this with good grace, humour and kept me on my toes - Thank you ladies. I would also like to take this opportunity in thanking every single exhibitor who entered and to all the beautiful dogs I was given the opportunity and privilege to examine. I know some had travelled great distances and at a great expense – this was greatly appreciated by me.
Never did think, in my wildest dreams, when I exhibited my first Scottie dog at Crufts back in 1984 that I would one day have the privilege of judging here on the famous green carpet. There seemed to be a great atmosphere ringside especially when a certain exhibitor managed to lose her skirt due to dieting – she did it with great aplomb and took it all in her stride with great humour. There was also much amusement when the BOB decided to use me as a lamppost (fortunately he missed me).
I had some beautiful dogs to go over and I literally was spoiled for choice - several decisions being so very close. I obviously was after a dog of outstanding quality, as close to breed standard as you can get but with charisma and attitude. I found this in my Best of Breed – what a true example of everything I was wanting. Overall, I found the majority with good heads, one or two a little course,
and a couple had suspect teeth. Some fronts weren’t their fortune and tail placements were a little lazy on some, but the majority were acceptable. I only had one suspect temperament.
I am delighted that we have some new and younger exhibitors coming into the breed who are certainly learning their craft, improving their stock and presenting and handling them in the ring to a high standard.
I felt that the presentation of the dogs was second to none with some beautiful quality coats of right texture and bloom.
My only disappointment was the fact I had to rush the Bitch classes, but this was due to the timing element for the Terrier Group. I think exhibitors would have liked more time for photographs but I’m sure they will have some great photos of the day regardless.
I hope everyone had a super day, whether you were placed or not, and we all go home with the best dog anyway, and I’m sure many of you will have made several new friends from near and far and that’s what it’s all about. Friendship through the love of our beautiful breed.
VD (2)
1. Kieffer’s Int/fr/sp/de Ch No Way Du Moulin De Mac Gregor Ww
This smart, black 8-year-old boy was a delight to go over with all the qualities of being an international champion. Clean head, good eye and correct ear placement, good run in of neck with correct front, well boned, good rib and tail well set. He was in excellent form throughout. Moved like he owned the ring, and he did. Was happy to award him Best Veteran.
2. Hovagimyan Ch & Multi Ch Jumpin Jack Flash
At 12 years old this young man certainly knew his stuff and never faulted! Well-constructed throughout, with clean head, eyes dark and almond shaped, well-placed ears, correct shoulders, was a little reluctant on the move but still held topline. Still in great coat and showed very steady and hope he enjoyed his day. This Kennel should be very proud of all their dogs.
PUPPY DOG (3)
1. Chapman & Tyler - Berrybreeze Soul Man
This young man of 8 months old was beautifully presented. Balanced head, with dark almond shaped eye, neat well-placed ears and run in of shoulders. Needs time to mature and was a little reluctant on the move, possibly overawed by the occasion.
2. Tilley - Fredrick Oriono Kerai
11-month-old black boy with good substance. Masculine head with dark feisty eyes, correct teeth, good shoulders and lovely front on him, would have liked a better tail placement, but moved out well. Nicely balanced and beautifully presented.
3. Lockwood - Fennekin Kiss the Sky with Lochgems
JUNIOR DOG (8 - 2 AB)
1. Dixon - Chatterdale Star Eclipse
This young man is striking and certainly demands your attention with his ‘look at me attitude’ and going over him I certainly wasn’t disappointed Beautiful clean and balanced head, correct bite, lovely dark almond eyes leading into correct shoulders and front assembly Short coupled, tail bang on top, good angulation He simply powered around the ring. Excellent movement and presentation top notch Delighted to award him RDCC.
2. Breden, Skudder & Caley - Honeypaws Mister Sandman
Watched this wheaten young man mature nicely. Great substance but a little strong in the head. Lovely expression, dark almond eye, correct ear placement and correct scissor bite with black pigmentation to nose. Deep chest and low to ground, excellent coat texture. Well up to size. Moved and handled well.

This was an outstanding class of top-quality dogs, and I want to thank everyone for giving me such a (wonderful) headache and brilliant moment in my judging career.
1. Baranauskiene - Filisite Brash Riddle of Fate
Well, what can I say about this beautiful dog other than when I was going over him, all I could think of is WOW!! He simply blew me away. Not only did he have the most stunning masculine head, but all body properties also I could ever wish for. His front was outstanding, and this quality followed right through. Tail bang on top and he covered the ground like a train and his movement was a dream. He so well-deserved Best Dog, and Best of Breed. Later I discovered who his dam was, and I thought the same of her when I judged her in Finland. She also was outstanding!
2. Skrobiszewska & Huber & Cross - Am Gch Black Thistle Once in a Blue Moon
Here we have another stunning dog who I was thrilled to go over. His quality was once again something to behold. Masculine head with all the right attributes, shoulders and front were excellent, as were the lay of shoulder, depth of chest and tail bang on top. Movement was excellent. It was only a pity he met the 1st today or things might have been different!
3. Cockayne - Ch/am Ch Trakside Gabriel Oak
GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME DOG
1. Allsopp - Magic Murray R12
Black dog who seemed to enjoy his day out as did his handler, both novices, but let’s hope she continues to embrace our breed and improve her stock. This little boy had a nice head, but body was a little long and high off the ground, he moved out when asked to and thoroughly enjoyed himself.

Here we have a beautiful black 10-year-old who so enjoys her showing! Another beautiful black veteran bitch 8-year-old who was another to be proud of.
