German Spitz Breeders & Owners Club - Champ

Sub-Group Championship Show 12 September 2025

German Spitz (Mittel) Judge: Mrs Averil Cawthera-Purdy

Could I thank the GSBOC for the honour in being asked to judge this Ch Show. Could I also thank those, who know who they are within the breed and without, past and present, who have encouraged and reminded me over the years that this is a breed that my involvement with during it’s early years in the UK meant I should be judging. Finally, I’ve got there and am so very pleased that I have as I thoroughly enjoyed all your dogs and was further both honoured and humbled, by the entry that you had given me. I know my Mum would have been proud.

I found real strengths in this entry. Temperaments were superb and exactly as the breed standard describes. Pigmentation was also strong throughout. Dentition was excellent. On Breed Watch Category 2 for signs of visible eye irritation or discomfort (including redness, discharge and tear staining) I found only 1 that came even close to a concern for this in my entry and on a breezy “4 seasons in a day” late afternoon this means, if this entry is typical, the problem is well on the way being solved. Hindquarter angulation and strength are both very good and, as might be expected from this, so is rear movement and rear side action on the vast majority. Coats were generally good, although some could be harsher and straighter in guard hair. Tail set and carriage I found to be very good throughout. Things for breeders to work to improve, I think the main one would be front construction, here I found some weaknesses. Some are not as well laid back in shoulder as they need to be to balance their rear angulation. I found a number who are also loose at elbow. Some could be more compact, I was looking for the short coupled, almost square outline that the standard calls for. My main winners all achieved this to some extent, however, I did find more longer cast outlines than I would have hoped for. Size does need to be watched, none are too small, but quite a few of the males and even some of the bitches are over the breed standard size range, pushing the measure, some to quite a degree. On the positive side though, almost all were standing within their frame which is a strength.

1st TISPITZA'S DAMNED BY RUMOUR OF NOSREGOR ROGERSON, Miss L

At just over 5 months this young lad shows promise. Good for size with good dentition and pigment. Correctly angulated and moving well for his age. Good jacket on its way, correct in texture. Head still developmental but pleasing for age. Best Baby Puppy.

2nd TISPITZA'S MIDNIGHT RITUAL POLLEN, Ms C

Not surprised to find he is litter brother to the 1st and all the same comments apply. I suspect they will change places many times. Today this lad wasn’t as settled in the ring as his brother and is still a little ‘bum high’ which is developmental and will change as he matures.

3rd IZLOU THE ROXSTAR BARNES, Ms L

Making up a trio of promising babies this almost 6mth old lad is strongly made and has good angulation and correct movement. Loved his eye and expression, however his ear could be smaller. Good pigmentation. Currently a little longer cast than my preference but this could be developmental.

1st LINDCOLY MY ROCKAFELLA SAICH, Mr C j & Mrs L M

Brown/W parti. Lots to like in this young man. He is good for size with a pleasing head and expression, good pigmentation and dentition. I particularly liked his ear which are correct to standard, small triangular and high set. Well put together, currently stronger in rear his front can be a little untidy at present but this could change as his chest develops. Best Puppy Dog and Reserve BPIB

1st LONGSDALES TAKE IT EASY BLIGHT, Mrs E

Sable/W parti. Pushed the measure but scored highly in head and expression. Correct eye, small ear, good pigment and dentition. I liked his length of leg, which gave him the correct shape and his coupling is also reasonably short. His overall angulation was good producing strong rear movement, a slight looseness at elbow meant his front was not quite as strong.

1st TISPITZA'S UNBREAKABLE VOW TAYLOR, Miss Tina

Close decision, as much to like about both of these lads. Fills but doesn’t push the measure, so good for size at top end. I did like his length of leg and short back giving the outline I was searching for with ease. Pleasing head and expression, enhanced by his dark eye and good pigmentation. Moved well to win here.

2nd LINDCOLY TOD JUNIOR SAICH, Miss A

This lad was his own worst enemy today. Thankfully he wasn’t able to hide all his virtues. I liked his head and expression, nice eye and good dentition. Correct size. A little longer cast than 1st and somewhat unsettled on the move though I saw enough to suggest he is a good mover when he wants to be.

1st LONGSDALES LOOK AT ME NOW FRANCIS & PEARCE, Mr D, Mr G

Shining Black with a coat you could see clearly was totally correct, with strong, straight gleaming guard hair and enough undercoat to hold it. Lovely eye and ear, with a most pleasing masculine expression. Nicely balanced throughout with excellent construction and the best front end, by some margin, of this entry. Loved his correctly placed elbows and lay back of shoulder. Loved his length of leg. Good tail set and carriage. Moved to win here, no exaggeration just totally sound, with the effortless brisk action called for by the standard. Good rib cage and relatively short coupled. Yes, he does just push the measure a tad but I’m judging overall quality and this lad could not and would not be denied. He is also a true showman who makes sure you notice all those virtues to the full. DCC BOB Pleased to find out later that this was his 3rd CC meaning he gains his crown (subject to RKC confirmation). Also pleased that he found favour with the BIS judge to take the top honour of BIS.

2nd CADASARO GEORGIE WITH NOSREGOR(IKC) ROGERSON, Miss L

White and Cream. Correct for size. Loved his shape and head. Not in his full jacket today but enough to assess coat quality which is good. Well put together, if a little looser at elbow than would be my preference, but I did like his turn of stifle which produced strong accurate rear movement. Couldn’t match the front of 1st today but a quality dog with many virtues.

3rd DOROLUNA IF THE CROWN FITS DREW, Dr L

Pushing the measure. Brown with a good quality jacket. Good eye and ear, although his foreface is just a little heavier than is my preference. Strong rear with good hind movement. Front construction not as strong and his movement in front was a little untidy today.

1st CADASARO FIGHTS ON O’LEARY, Mr K

White lad who had so much to like. His is up to the measure, as were so many. Scores in short loin and he is nicely balanced through. Strong rear and a reasonable front construction which gained him credit here. Pleasing head and expression, with a nice dark eye and good ears, which he finally decided he would show us, a bit of a handler’s nightmare in this respect today, but we got there! Excellent pigmentation and a good tail set and carriage. Good coat of correct texture. Moved to win here. In the challenge he just couldn’t match either the showmanship or superb breed movement of the CC winner but easily worthy of the RCC.

2nd CH IR CH INT CH IZLOU FLOAT MA BOAT BLIGHT, Mrs E

This quality boy was not on his best behaviour today and was giving his handler quite a hard time. He has a lovely head and expression, with good eye and ear placement and correct muzzle. He is good for size and well proportioned, short coupled and giving a good outline. Good coat and well set tail. Today he was very unsettled on the move, until his last movement which showed what he could do and took him to this place.

3rd CH LONGSDALES REBEL ROUSER AT CWRTAFON (JW) (OSW) PEARCE & FRANCIS & ROBERTS, Mr G, Mr D, Mrs D

Plenty of quality in this lad. He is well up to size but has a good head with correct ear/eye placement giving a masculine but pleasing expression. Excellent coat beautifully presented. Well put together and moving strongly behind though somewhat wide in front today.

1st HOCOMBEWOOD HOT TODDY FOR LINDCOLY SAICH, Miss A

Black & Brown Won here on shape and movement. In lovely coat of the correct texture. Well put together. He does have a slightly bolder eye than I prefer.

2nd NIXTEV BLACKHAWK LOWE & ROSEBURY, Ms H K, Mr M W

Way the over measure but enjoying his time in the ring. Well put together and moving soundly to take his place here

3rd NIXTEV XANDER LOWE & ROSEBURY, Ms H K, Mr M W

Loved this lad’s head and expression. In good coat and with a good outline. Unfortunately, he was totally overawed by being in the ring today and this meant his movement was virtually unassessable today and so he had to give way to his happy to be here, bigger half brother.

1st CADASARO HANNA O’LEARY, Mr K

Utterly charming W/S puppy with so much quality and promise for the future. Loved her head and expression. Good dark eye, good ear, high set and excellent pigmentation. Nicely put together and with a good quality coat correct for her age. I could wish for her to be a tad shorter in loin but she is still developmental and has time to firm up in this respect. Beautifully constructed rear producing strong sound movement behind. Her front is good, but her elbow could be a little tighter. Good tail set and carriage. Overall a most attractive, feminine example of the breed. BPIB. So pleased to see her go BPIS under Heather Corkin at the end of the afternoon.

2nd LINDCOLY MY CINDERELLA SAICH, Mr C j & Mrs L m

Cream and white Parti. Nicely put together, with a pleasing head and expression. Somewhat longer than my preference. But sound and moving to prove it.

3rd FLAMUNA SUCK IT AND SEE HESLOP, Miss AJ

Rather unsettled today but she made a good picture in stance and merits more work to allow her to show herself off to advantage.

Junior Bitch

A trio of top quality young ladies. I liked all of them and my placings today reflected changeable elements, they are close up and so little things had to count today.

1st LONGSDALE'S HAVE DA HEART FRANCIS & PEARCE, Mr D, Mr G

Beautiful Black in good coat which helped take her to the top of the line today. Well constructed, particularly in rear and moving to prove it. Elbows could be tighter. Pleasing head and expression, I particularly liked her eye. I would have preferred her a tad shorter.

2nd NOSREGOR DEAR DIARY ROGERSON, Miss L

Outstanding in outline and even having left her coat at home this Brown lass pushed hard all the way. Lovely length of leg and short coupled giving her the correct shape. As above well constructed, particularly in rear and moving well. Elbows could be tighter. Pleasing head and expression but not quite the eye of 1.

3rd LINDCOLY WISH ON RAINBOWS SAICH, Miss A

Cream with potentially the best front end in the class which she tried to hide through misbehaviour. She has plenty of quality and just needs to learn how to show it off.

Post Graduate Bitch

1st KITSUNE CREAM FUDGE PURVES, Mrs J

Well up to the measure and totally out of coat today, but nicely constructed. Pleasing head and expression, although her ear could be a little smaller. Good tail set and carriage. Moved well once settled.

A class of quality exhibits that in this day and age I found most heartening to see. A breed that can field classes like this has much to commend it as these girls will breed the next generation and they are well up to the task. Some quality bitches had to go unplaced here.

1st TISPITZA'S AVADA KEDAVRA TAYLOR, Miss Tina

Shining black coat giving the correct outline thanks to her good length of leg and short coupling. Pleasing head and expression with a small ear. High set tail carried well. Perfect in terms of substance for her size. Lovely rib and correct neck. Angulation nicely balanced through and moving well in all directions to take her to the top of this strong class. In contention for the top awards and close up.

2nd IZLOU GOSSIP GIRL JW BARNES & KING, Ms L, Miss I

Top quality Cream presented and shown to advantage, who pushed hard all the way in this strong class. Loved her head and expression, so feminine, with a good dark eye and excellent pigmentation. She has good length of leg but is a little longer in loin than needed to give a really good square outline, which, when splitting hairs, was the deciding factor today. She is a strong, good mover.

3rd LONGSDALE'S I WILL SURVIVE FRANCIS & PEARCE, Mr D, Mr G

Rangier than the two above her but with lots to commend her, not least her strongly constructed backend producing excellent rear movement. Today she wasn’t as positive in front as 1 & 2.

1st IZLOU MUSTARD BEEN LOVE BARNES & KING, Ms L, Miss I

Quality shining Black who gave me so much of what I was looking for. Correct size. Beautifully constructed, in excellent jacket presented and handled to full advantage. Most pleasing in head and expression. Excellent tail set and carriage. So good under my hands with everything exactly where I wanted it. Good sound mover, in a difficult ring her footfall was near perfect every time. Her substance balanced her size without losing femininity. She pushed hard all the way but in the final analysis had to settle for the RCC, of which she is certainly most worthy.

1st CH JANSANLEIS RAVE JW MACKENZIE & MOIR, Miss G A, Mrs J & Miss S

White and Cream lady who oozes class throughout. This 3 year old meets the standard so well in all respects. She excels in head. Small triangular ears, high set as the standard requires and lovely dark eye set obliquely and both dark and so expressive. Excellent dark pigment. Correct neck carried high on her shoulders, with good lay back for this breed. She has nicely turned stifles giving her balanced angulation front and rear. Good rib cage and relatively short coupled, which allied with good length of leg gives her a pleasing outline. Her tail set is high and carriage good. Her movement was strong, particularly in rear and side action. In good coat of correct texture. Handled and presented to advantage. BCC RBOB & BOS

2nd IR & INTL CH CADASARO DREAMS BIG O’LEARY, Mr K

Sable and White Parti. A quality lady with many virtues, not surprised to see she is the Dam of BPIB. Well constructed and moving well. Pleasing in head and expression but not the ear of 1 and at the end of a long day although her tail set is good her carriage could have been tighter.

Class 32 Veteran Bitch

1st CH JANSANLEIS MAYHEM JW VW MACKENZIE & MOIR, Miss G A, Mrs J & Miss S

At 14 ½ years young she defies her age! She is a stunning example of the breed, beautifully constructed and even though she is just starting to show her age in her head it is still clearly a text book rendition of the breed standard. Her construction is good and she moves with accuracy and poise. BVIB Delighted to see her take BVIS under Heather Corkin

2nd IZLOU PEANUT PASSION DREW, Dr L

Approaching her 8th birthday with much to like. Loved her head and expression with good eye/ear placement. Soundly constructed and a good mover. A little long in loin which meant she couldn’t match outline of 1.

3rd CH DULAIS MOONLIGHT OVER PARIS AT TREBETTYN JW WILLIAMS, Miss Bethan

Making up a trio of quality veterans and approaching her 9th birthday. This lady has many virtues. Well constructed and moving soundly. Unfortunately not in her best coat today, but nevertheless enjoying herself.
