North Of England Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club

Breed: Pyrenean Mountain Dog
CRITIQUE North Of England Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club Championship Show. Thursday 23rd October 2025 I would like to extend my thanks to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to officiate as a replacement judge at this well organised show. I thoroughly enjoyed my day spent in the company of this lovely breed for which I have developed a deep appreciation. Pyrenean Mountain Dog Veteran Dog (1, 0 abs) 1st Cubello’s Night Owl. Handsome, typey boy of 9 years. Proportionate masculine head properties with dark, correctly shaped eye set on a body of good overall proportions. Strong forehand with good bone, deep chest, firm backline and well muscled rear assembly. Sound mover from all angles. BVD Minor Puppy Dog (1, 0 abs) 1st: Greenfield’s Kalkasi Eternal Legacy. 6 mths old and at his first show here today. Head developing along the correct lines with super dark eye and good pigment. Well put together in all departments with strong, muscular neck set into close fitting shoulders and deep chest. Well boned with straight forelegs. Moved out with a sure, steady action. A little close in hind action going away at this stage in his development, but this will surely improve with maturity. Promising puppy only just missing out to the tighter, slightly more convincing rear action of the winner in next class. Puppy Dog (2, 0 abs) 1st: Bhattacharya’s Jumicar Free As A Bird Of Hydelen. Loved the head on this youngster of 11 mths. Correctly shaped skull of equal proportions, strong pigment and dark eye. Strong neck leading to correctly fitting shoulders and good depth and width of chest. Well boned forelegs but pasterns could be a tad straighter. Sound rear assembly with well turned stifles and correct tail set all under a well prepared jacket of correct texture. BPD 2nd: Kalkasi Eternal Legacy Limit Dog (2, 1 abs) 1st: Reilly’s Mangrove Xiphos Spartan Swordsman At Darmaror (imp Bel) Liked the overall balance of this young man. Lovely head of pleasing proportions with correct curvature of skull, excellent eye shape and colour and super pigment, all contributing to the most charming expression. Strong neck leading to correct shoulder placement, medium angulation, broad muscular back and firm thighs being among his many attributes. Moved out with an overall free and steady gait on flexible front pasterns. Hind action could be slightly more convincing on this surface here today but his other qualities and attributes secured his contention for one of the top spots. Well presented and handled to get the best from him. RDCC. Open Dog (6, 1 abs) Challenging class of differing type. . 1st: Jasper’s Pafaxen Rewrite The Stars. Lots to like about this 2 yr old. Head proportionate to body and of pleasing proportions atop a strong, short neck fitting cleanly into his well placed shoulders. Slightly longer cast in body than some, but retaining a strong, firm topline. Powerful quarters and firm hocks. Moved out with a supple easy gait which won him this class. 2nd: Kenyon & Ward’s Ch. Charibere Siimply The Sequel At Kalanna JW. Well deserved titled boy of just 4 yrs. Noble head of correct proportions, dark eye and strong muzzle. Little to dislike on going over him with so many qualities to appreciate. Just preferred the more enthusiastic fluid action of 1 today, but so close up. 3rd: Salmon’s Geant Patou De L’orri. Well presented and creating a pleasing outline on the stand. Well put together all through but just preferred the more enthusiastic, freer action of 1 & 2. Champion Dog (3, 1 abs) 1st: Pollard & Maggs’ Ch. Gillandant Thief Of Hearts At Dewyche. Oozing quality, full of breed type and presenting beautifully balanced overall proportions. Impressive head properties of correct proportions with super dark eye and pigment with correct ear placement and well filled muzzle all combining to produce a captivating and typical expression. Powerful forehand with excellent straight front legs of good bone and strong pasterns. Correct shape and depth of chest with well defined rear musculature and firm hocks providing him with all he needs to move out with a free and easy no-nonsense action. Handler moved him at exactly the right pace to showcase his many attributes without any fuss of drama. Excellent presentation and condition. BD & was delighted to award him eventual BIS 2nd: Baverstock’s Ch. Kalkasi Just Because JW. Built on slightly smaller lines but all in proportion and retaining an overall picture of an imposing dog. Another sporting a masculine head of correct planes and proportions with lovely dark eye and dark pigment. Muscular neck set into clean shoulders. Soundly constructed all through with correct angulation fore and aft and well muscled throughout under a correctly textured jacket. Moved out well with an easy gait. Well presented. Strong contender. Veteran Bitch (2, 0 abs) Two lovely ladies of which to be proud. 1st: Goodwin’s Ch. Lisjovia Adagio Avec Montmusique JW OSW. Have admired this girl’s qualities in the past, having judged her untitled and awarded her virtues accordingly. So feminine all through, yet retaining strength and power. Lovely head with all the required breed elements in evidence to include correct shape of skull, dark eye and pigment and well filled foreface. So beautifully balanced throughout under a correctly textured coat. Moved out combining grace with stamina confirming she is not ready to bow to her veteran status any time soon. BVB and continued to impress in the final challenge taking her all the way to BVIS 2nd: Pollard’s Ch. Gillandant Ophelia. Another lovely girl I am not surprised has gained her title. Sharing many of the winners qualities and attributes she was close up and pushed hard. Feminine head properties atop a strong neck leading to close fitting shoulders. Nicely angulated fore and aft. Well handled and presented. Another lady refusing to acknowledge her veteran years, she moved out with a free and easy gait but with not quite the enthusiasm of the winner which was the deciding factor that split them here today. Minor Puppy Bitch (3, 1 abs) Two cracking babies with little to split them. 1st: Baverstock’s Kalkasi The Eternal Quest. At her first show and at just 6 mths on the day, this well-schooled baby did everything asked of her. Head properties developing along the right lines with dark eye and pigment. With everything in the right place conformationally, there is little to change at this stage in her development. Straight front, well placed shoulders and a good turn of stifle are among her principle attributes, providing her with the key elements to showcase a steady, free and easy gait from all angles. BPB and pipped her litter brother at the final post for BPIS 2nd: Baverstock’s Kalkasi Eternal Destiny. Full litter sister to the winner I see and with very little to split them it was a difficult decision. Reflecting her sister’s conformational qualities all through, this little lady was matching her at every turn. These two puppies mirrored each other’s front action but going away, 1 had the more convincing rear action at this stage in their development today. They will change places many tines for sure throughout their puppyhood. Shall watch their progress with much interest. Was interested to note they are sired by my BIS winner Puppy Bitch (4, 1 abs) 1st: Kalkasi The Eternal Quest 2nd: Kalkasi Eternal Destiny 3rd: Carter’s Jumicar She’s A killer Queen. At 11mths, this youngster was evidently more mature but for me, lacked the overall balance of 1 & 2. Lovely dark eye and pigment but would prefer slightly more typical head properties. Soundly put together and displaying many other breed requirements but not using them to her advantage on the move here today unfortunately. Super temperament and well focused. Junior Bitch (1, 0 abs) 1st: Baverstock’s Kalkasi As If By Magic JW. Another lovely example of the breed from this kennel. Creating a typical, impressive outline on the stand and of obvious quality this 15mth old immediately captured my attention. Gorgeous head of correct planes and proportions with a super expression coming from her dark, expressive eyes and pigment. Standard fitting front assembly with straight, well boned forelegs, deep chest with well sprung ribbing, strong backline and nicely moulded croup. Well muscled rear with strong, straight supple hocks assisting such an effortless gait. Considered further in the final challenge and only missing out to maturity, I’m sure it wont be long before she is knocking on the door for top honours. A lovely girl. Graduate Bitch (2, 1 abs) 1st: Kennedy’s Gmuvel Patou Via Dell Amore At Pyrcot (imp Lva). Strongly built throughout yet retaining much of her femininity, this girl carries a strong head atop an equally strong neck. Whilst she had adequate front and rear angulation, I would prefer a firmer backline with a tad more development in chest, which for me, restricted her front action. Crisp coat and lovely expression and temperament which shone through. Limit Bitch (2, 1 abs) 1st: Kenyon & Ward’s Charibere Reason To Dream At kaianna JW. Ultra feminine 2 yr old of good overall make and shape and nicely balanced proportions. Proportionate feminine head with correct shape of skull and width of equal measure. Soundly constructed throughout with lots to like. Used her sound construction to advantage on the move striding out with a confident sure and easy gait. Stood alone here but a worthy winner. Open Bitch (5, 1 abs) 1st: Wilcock’s Ch. Penellcy She’s Like The Wind. Not surprised to learn this young lady is titled. She exudes quality and class and is so feminine throughout yet retaining a powerful overall appearance. Beautifully balanced head properties with dark, correctly set and shaped eye, dark pigment and close fitting lips. So sound to go over with many conformational virtues combining to provide all she needs to move out with a free and easy action. As a strong contender, kept her in the challenge for serious consideration. Another lovely girl with still more to come I’m sure. 2nd: Bamford & Church’s Pafaxen A Million Dreams JW. Another nice example of the breed. Loved her strong but feminine head and expression. Well put together in most departments but would prefer a slightly stronger top line for greater overall balance. Moved well on firm hocks. Well handled and presented. 3rd: Flounders’ Kalkasi Just Imperial at akamoni. Harris’ Febus Hardknott. Bringing up a nice trio of girls with plenty to like including good head and well muscled quarters, but not quite matching the freer movement of 1 & 2 here today. Champion Bitch (2, 0 abs) 1st: Gibson’s Ch/Ir/Lux Ch Febus Anapeou JW ShCEx OSW Combining elegance and power, this classy 4 year old caught my attention with her self assured presence and obvious quality. She needs hands on to fully appreciate her qualities as her abundance of coat threatens to detract from her balanced overall proportions and virtues. Correct head properties with super dark eye and pigment atop a strong, muscular neck fitting into correct shoulder placement straight front and firm pasterns. Excellent depth and shape of rib cage assisting a strong back line. Matching angles fore and aft and well boned throughout. This girl really comes into her own on the move and appreciating today’s large ring, she just got more and more into her supple stride, displaying a rhythmical free and easy action to win her not only the class but later the BCC and RBIS. Expertly presented and handled to perfection. 2nd: Goodwin’s Ch. Lisjovia White Lady Avec Montmusique JW. Being so close up, this ultra feminine lady was so unlucky to meet 1 on such good form today. She possesses so much to appreciate from the tip of her well pigmented nose to her well set and carried tail. At 4 yrs old she is in her prime sporting a beautifully feminine head of correct proportions atop a muscular neck and so well constructed all through reflecting in her stylish, easy strides on flexible pasterns and strong supple hocks. Presented in the hard, fit condition I ways appreciate and unobtrusively handled to allow her to showcase her virtues all by herself, my notes concluded ‘Just Lovely’. Delighted to award her a well deserved RBCC. Angela Pedder Judge
