Dogue De Bordeaux

Thank you to my two stewards on the day Kaye and Janice you were both great, also to all those that entered under me. There were many qualities in the dogs presented on the day, from when I last judged them at Boston, I noticed improvement in eyes, fronts and rear angulation which is great. Please have your dogs toned and conditioned so that they want to move, plus it gives them a better outline and hocks are firmed up.

Special Beginners (0)

Puppy Dog (3)

1st Moran’s Aibrean Liam – 9 ½ month substantial Male with solid bone throughout, although still a puppy he would benefit from a tad less weight. Quite a mature dog overall, especially in head where his skull is broad with a medium ear that is set and carried well, defined stop, oval eyes that are set wide apart. Strength in muzzle of good width, large nose with open nostrils. Broad curved jaw, well defined chin, thick flews which hang correctly. Correct neck which broadens at its base where it leads onto a well laid shoulder. Strong foreleg, with good strength to pastern for age. Chest already has good width and depth, rib cage is well sprung and of good length, broad loin. Adequate rear but would benefit from a little more length to second thigh to give more angle to stifle. Moved sound in all directions, but I feel with a drop in weight this will enable him to move more freely. BPD & BPIB, he stood well in the big ring later in the day.

2nd Allen’s Willansburg Last Stand – 8 month and a proper minor puppy, not as heavy in bone or size compared to first place, however he has the correct bone and weight for age and size. Head is developing as skull needs to broaden a bit more, oval eyes which are well placed, nice length to muzzle, with enough chin, ears are well set and when used carried well. Neck length is good, circumference blends well from head to front assembly where it meets a lovely well laid shoulder. He stands straight in front onto strong feet with tight toes, this is lovely to see and finishes a dog. Length of body is correct and leads to a lovely hindquarter where he has well angled stifle. This youngster doesn’t show all he has but when he moves although still very loose, he displays a lovely profile where head carriage drops, good extension and rear drive is observed. I feel he could have a bright future.

3rd Bailey’s Nesaluma Atomboy

Junior Dog (2, 1abs)

1st Harrison’s Cerisier Young Guns – 18 month top sized male, with bone to compliment. Really liked this boys’ proportions, his length to height is correct which enables him to use his angles well both in stance and on the move where it can be seen in profile. He has a broad slightly rounded skull, pronounced stop, median groove is easily seen where it lessens towards his back skull. Oval wide set eyes. Moderate folds enhance his expression. Broad muzzle of good length, with pleasing curve to his strong jaw and defined chin. His neck is of good size and meets a nice front, where his lay of shoulder is very good. His chest still needs to widen and drop; this will give a better image in movement when he is coming to. Rib cage is developing and is of a good length, his undercarriage is pleasing, still needs to broaden in loin and hindquarters where he has well angulated stifles but his muscle tone on his inner and outer thigh has still to come, at present he moves a tad too close. Once the muscle comes which will happen, he will then have a super powerful rear. A lovely boy who I will look forward to seeing how he develops.

Post Graduate (2)

1st Iseton’s Bobiso Amos – 20 months male, strong boned throughout, would prefer more length of leg. He is still firming up in body and joints as he is still a tad loose in hock on the move. Head has a good skull, ears are well set and carried well. Chin is well defined, upper flews are thick and hang well. Broad muzzle, top line does turn up, I’d like a little more length to muzzle as I feel it would enhance his expression. He uses all his angles well and has a good topline on the move. Front construction is pleasing he stands straight in front with elbows well let done. His hindquarters are heading the right way, his first thigh is developing with evident muscle. Rib cage is well sprung and of good length and depth, he is broad in loin which leads to a moderate sloping croup with good tail set.

2nd Mott’s Bourgeoisie Chase ‘N’ Status – This boy impressed me when he entered the ring, he wasn’t happy me checking out his jewels, however, I did eventually manage to go over him in the end, hopefully he will get over this silly stage as he is a stunning boy. His head is very appealing with good width to skull which is slightly round, medium ear carried well and close to his muscled cheek. Defined stop with the required median grove. Oval well placed eye showing no haw. Correct length of muzzle to head ratios, top line of muzzle curves upwards as does his well lower jaw, chin is well defined. Upper lip meets and drops well to lower lip. Correct lay of shoulder, elbows are well let down, and he stands straight in front. His chest has already broadened and it drops nicely to meet elbows. Back is broad with ribs that are well sprung, loin is also of fair width. Hindquarters match well with front angles first thigh has good muscular development. Hocks are strong. His movement is a pleasure to watch.

Limit (2, 1abs)

1st Bamforth’s Bellamiabam Ragnar – Impressive male of only 17 months who is very mature for his age and well-schooled. He is a square dog in profile and would benefit from being a tad longer in body to enable him to drive more on the move. Handsome head without being overdone, good skull with correct ear which is carried well enhancing his width of skull, oval eyes without any haw, excellent stop, head is slightly furrowed with correct symmetrical wrinkle. Broad muzzle of correct length, well defined chin. Although young his neck is strong and blends from head to shoulders. He stands straight in front, chest is of good width and depth. Broad back and good spring of rib, loin is broad and muscled, leading to a balanced hindquarter with thick thighs which have good conditioning which were noted in the challenge as this continues to a strong second thigh and strong hock. Movement is sound in all directions. A lovely dog who I was pleased to award RCC.

Open (4)

1st Ansell’s Justlazare Darknight Rises – Medium sized 5 year old whose general appearance is what the standard asks for; powerful, muscular not leggy nor low to the ground, and he definitely gives a harmonious outline on the move. His head has a broad curved skull, ears that are set high and carried well hanging close to cheek. Median groove is distinctive with pleasing symmetrical wrinkles either side. His stop is pronounced and meets his broad muzzle where the topline has a slight turn up. The width barely reduces towards the tip, lovely large nostrils enhance the width, his thick upper flews fall nicely and meets with the lower lip. Lower jaw is so strong and has a nice curve leading to a defined chin. Oval dark brown eyes, complete with his gorgeous true black mask enhances his appearance. When viewing this dog, you see muscle and strength from his neck, body, broad loin, hind legs both first and second thigh it’s all easy to see. He has a lovely lay of shoulder, body length is good with well sprung ribs, chest is deep, well angulated stifle. These all play their part to enable him to move so free, with suppleness, he moves at one with his handler at a good pace which enables him to lower his head whilst doing so. He is so sound in all directions. He was in a class of quality dogs but shone on the day and deserved his win, along with his CC which I find to be his first, yet he has multiple rcc’s! Hopefully he will gain his title as he so deserves it.

2nd Hargreave’s Roiliondogue Heracles – 3 year male who looked the youth in the class that he was, maturing nicely with lots to like about him, but isn’t always presented in stance to enhance his qualities. Medium sized dog with correct bone for size. Head proportions are good, skull of good width with correct ear set which enhances the width when used. Oval wide set eyes, showing no haw, with moderate folds, cheeks are muscled. Strong jaw and defined chin. Muzzle is broad from defined stop to the tip. Skull has pleasing wrinkles which enhance his expression, without being overdone. Neck is muscular and blends well onto his well laid shoulder. He stands straight in front. Depth of chest is good meeting elbows, rib cage is well sprung, strong broad loin. Moderate slope to croup. Hindquarters have the correct length of first and second thigh with well-angled stifle, he does require more development in his hindquarters. He is strong in hock which enables him to drive well from behind. His movement is pleasing where in profile he can be seen to cover the ground well, and is moved at a good speed with his handler. He was brought in to be considered for RCC.

3rd Brunger’s Ch Loggerheads Thor

Puppy Bitch (2)

1st Gaughan’s From Who I Am Kalin Red Beauty Bordeaux Of Dhoomadogues (Imp. Nld) – 11 month who is still very raw. Slightly lighter in bone than I would like for her size, however her overall conformation is pleasing and won her the class. Head is still developing, moderate width to skull, ear set and carriage is good. In profile length of muzzle to overall head is correct. Pleasing curve to muzzle with a defined chin. Nice lay of shoulder with return of upper arm where elbows are close and meets chest. Correct length of body, ribs are developing, loin is broad and showing strength. Hindquarters are moderately angled. Movement is sound however still extremely loose which is accepted for her age and stage of maturity. Best Puppy Bitch

2nd Moran’s Aibrean Ojo De Oro Naf Taf – 9 ½ months and litter sister to BPIB. Stronger in bone and type to first place, another who is still raw. Head isn’t quite there, ear carried and set correctly, skull is gaining width. Stands straight in front with nice depth to chest. Rib cage is well sprung, with nice undercarriage. Width to loin is good and leads to a broad hindquarter. Moderately angled stifle which is balanced with her front angles. Movement whilst loose is sound where she uses what she has on the move.

Junior Bitch (2)

1st Cunnah’s Coppertails Just Peachy – At just 12 months old just narrowly missed out on still being in puppy. She is a well-balanced bitch who I liked and appreciated her overall qualities. She has a good head with a pleasing expression, her fine wrinkles emphasise this as they fall from distinct median groove, ears are well placed and she used them well, cheeks have good muscle and folds are just enough falling nicely away from her oval eyes. Strength already in muzzle and of fair length with nice curve. Jaw is broad and strong again with a nice curve and finished with a good chin. Neck is strong and leads onto her shoulders. Top line is strong with ribs well sprung and of good length, lovely croup and tail set. Hindquarters are coming on, they have enough angle to stifle and she uses what she has on the move, where although still loose in movement she is a true mover and uses what she has to give free movement where head carriage is lowered to give a good extension.

2nd Bailey’s Pasya Bernaux De Picardi Avec Nesaluma (Imp. Pol) – Just short of 15 months old this black mask bitch has a lot to offer, she lacks confidence at this moment in time, but with gentle approach from future judges I’m sure she will pull through as I managed to assess her fully on the day. Her head is put together well but at present it has a little too much wrinkle for me, more stop would assist the overall look, but with age and skull width still developing this may improve. Proportions are correct, ear is set and carried correctly, muzzle and jaw have a slight curve with good chin although due to being uneasy she didn’t present her head as well as she could. She has lovely conformation her angles are pleasing she has a good lay of shoulder, nice upper arm where elbows are close. Ribcage has sprung and is of a good length with nice undercarriage, loin is broad and muscular and leads to a strong hindquarter that has a nice angulated stifle. A sound mover who covered the ground well looking good in profile.

Post Graduate Bitch (4)

1st Mott’s Bourgeoisie Vue Parfait – At 19 months this bitch is showing what a true yearling is, everything is there but just needs to be built on now. I really liked her and will watch out for her in the future as she matures. Head piece is appealing she has a great expression. Skull is developed where the width is enhanced by correctly set ears and carriage, ears touch muscled cheek where a neat fold is seen, oval eyes are set wide apart. Distinct stop meets with the start of a strong broad muzzle with slight curve. Jaw is broad and strong with well defined chin. Round muscular neck leads to a correct lay of shoulder and excellent upper arm. Stands straight in front and finished with lovely tight feet. Elbows lay close to chest which is deep and has good width. Rib cage is well sprung, top line is strong and leads to a muscular loin that still needs to broaden. Correct croup and tail set. Hindquarters are well angled with low set hocks. She uses all she has on the move dropping her head to display a lovely side profile. She pushed hard in the challenge for RCC, her muscular frame and construction caused me temptation but I felt she needs a few months on her back to gain that overall coverage needed. She has a promising future.

2nd Turnbull’s Wendy Z Habanskeho Dvora At Biscay – 2 ½ year old of deepest mahogany. I liked her length to height proportions, her rib cage is well sprung and of a nice length, broad strong back and loin. Chest is well developed with nice width. She has a good lay of shoulder, stands straight in front. Loin is broad and strong and leads onto strong well angulated hindquarters where muscle development is evident in upper thigh and continues to a developed second thigh. Neck is strong and carries her head well. Broad skull with good ear set and carriage, I’d prefer them to be a tad smaller to give a better expression. Distinct stop, wide set eyes, broad muzzle which is curved nicely, broad jaw with defined chin. She has a lovely arrogant look and super temperament. She moved well showing a good outline at all times.

3rd Powell’s Bourgeoisie Bon Vivant

Limit Bitch (6, 2 abs)

1st Hargreaves’ Roiliondogue Athena – A fit 3 year old bitch who has good conformation throughout, her movement won the class where she used all she had and gave a display of fit, free, supple movement, at times she is a little excitable and tried to move a little bit too fast. Whilst her head is correct, she doesn’t use her ears to give the required look, too content being with her dad at her side maybe? Good width of skull which has a nice shape, median groove is correct with symmetrical wrinkles, defined stop and strong muzzle, cheeks are muscled with folds coming from oval wide set eyes. Muscular neck, nice width to chest and depth that meets elbows that lay close, stands straight in front onto good feet. Length of body is correct to height, ribcage well sprung, broad and strong loin, curved croup which leads to a broad strong hindquarter, liked the width of her upper thigh where muscle is evident, well angled stifle, second thigh continues with the strength needed finishing with low set hocks. In the challenge her overall coverage and conditioning helped her to be awarded the RCC.

2nd Brunger & Rainger’s Douguesden Unique – Top sized bitch of nearly 3 years, well off for bone but still feminine. Would like her to drop a few pounds and firm up a bit more as she is a little lethargic and loose on the move. She has such a strong expression, broad skull and pronounced stop, distinct median groove with symmetrical wrinkles, I’d prefer them to be slightly less, medium ears are correctly set and used so well at all times, oval eyes which are set wide and help give the required frank expression, super muzzle, love the width all the way to her nose where large nostrils can be seen. Upper flews are thick and hang nice. Nice curved jaw and well defined chin. Stands straight in front, would like slightly tighter feet. Her rib cage is well sprung, chest has good width and depth. Body length is good, loin is broad, lovely croup. Hindquarter has good angles.

3rd Powell’s Bourgeoisie Here Comes Edna

Open Bitch (5)

1st Strong’s Ch Cerisier Supreme Of Strongzbeaux JW – This outstanding bitch of 3 ½ years had everything that I was looking for. Presented in super condition, solid firm muscle tone throughout, finished with perfect tight feet. Head piece is beautiful, her expression draws you in, broad curved skull, distinct medium groove which lessens towards her back skull as do her symmetrical wrinkles, small high set ear which drop perfectly to eye level. Oval eyes showing no haw are set wide apart, pronounced stop, strong broad muzzle with a nice curve and finished with a nose that has large nostrils. Jaw is broad and also has a nice curve, chin is well defined. Thick flews hang well and form the required inverted V. Neck is solid and carries her head well whilst blending so well onto strong shoulder placement, where her lay of shoulder is correct, with a lovely return of upperarm her elbows are close to her body where chest has good width and depth. Top line is firm, broad and this continues to a broad muscular short loin. Well sprung ribs and good undercarriage. Hindquarters are broad and muscular. Upper thigh is broad and has muscle development on her inner and outer thigh, this continues to an equally conditioned second thigh. Well angulated stifle and low set hocks enable her to drive through well on the move. She moves so well with her handler and covers the ground with ease, head drops, her drive and extension are so easy to see where her outline never changes. Such a show girl who I was honoured to award a CC to, and in the challenge, she came out on top to be given BOB. She looked stunning in the group.

2nd Hamblett’s Ironmastiff-Kennil Zartha – Not quite 2 ½ years old and she seems to still has some maturing to do. Her conformation is nice, good front assembly, chest has good depth and width, she stands straight in front onto lovely tight feet. Skull is slightly rounded with pronounced stop, skull has defined median groove, with symmetrical wrinkles, I’d prefer them not as heavy. Muzzle retains width, flews are rounded and hang correctly. Ear set and carriage is correct and used well, oval eye correctly placed. Defined chin. Neck is strong and round equal to that of head. Rib cage is well developed, broad in back and loin, hindquarters are pleasing with a well angulated stifle, a little more firmness overall would give her tidier movement. Correct croup which is moderately sloping leading to a good tail set and carriage. In profile she gives a lovely display on the move.
