I would like to sincerely thank the committee for inviting me to judge my first set of tickets at this prestigious show. It was both an honour and a privilege to judge my own breed at this level. It was lovely to hear the good sportsmanship and comradery amongst the exhibitors, both in and outside of the ring – something the breed seems to have developed a reputation for. On the whole, I found the confidence in the younger dogs much improved compared to recent years, and movement overall was very positive, especially so given the inclines of the ring. A few had narrow fronts, some showed increasing open angulation. Excessive white on the front legs and tails curling over the back are becoming more commonplace and as specialists we need to be careful not to reward these traits & protect breed type. That being said, I found the general quality of exhibits to be excellent and was very happy with my principal winners.

SBD/B (6,2)

1st: Gough’s Cretshengan Kitchi Lake (a.i.)

4yo dog who presented excellent overall balance and was handled to advantage. Masculine head, good ear set and strong muzzle. Good length to neck, leading onto well-constructed front & moderate angulation which was mirrored at the rear. Displayed good reach and drive on the move and held his topline well. In hard condition. BSBIB

2nd: Boyd’s Skysaria Eternal Flame JW

22mo larger male. Scored on his head – well-proportioned and correct wedge shape.

Moderate stop, strong muzzle and soft expression. Excellent bone and overall substance. Deep ribs but need more spring which will hopefully come with maturity. Shown in lovely coat. Unfortunately, a bit unsettled today.

3rd: Gregory’s Exetollers What’s This

PD (4,0)

1st: Ryder’s Shorrocks Game Changer At Finnkova

9mo dog who caught my eye immediately. Excellent breed typical head. Well laid shoulder and excellent forehand construction. Well developed forechest and moderate angulation front and rear. Good width across the chest & well sprung ribs. Moderate tuck up and short coupled. Very well balanced overall and possessed a calm and confident temperament. Moved efficiently with correct tail carriage. BPIB

2nd: Davies’ Arelechen Galileo Figaro

10mo dog who is full of potential. Head well-proportioned and with correct eye set and shape. Would prefer a slightly smaller ear. Balanced moderate angulation front and rear and presents a clean outline. Good bone and stands on neat, tight feet. Would like a little more forechest development, but has time on his side in this aspect. Jaunty on the move and strode out well.

3rd: Jenkins’ Tollelkin Villevenard Of Whistlefire

JD (4,0)

1st: Barker’s Coedhelyg Ho Tee Machine

16mo dog with plenty of substance and bone throughout. Masculine head, almond shaped eye and good size and shape to ears. Strong neck leading on well angulated front. Well developed ribs. Would like a touch more leg. Attractively marked. Mature for age and moved with confidence around the ring. Slightly over conditioned, but this could not detract from his overall quality.

2nd: Ryder’s Shorrocks Game Changer At Finnkova

1st in PD

3rd: Pickard & Swain’s Arthundur Red Viper

PGD (8,0)

1st: Ryder’s Arthundur Dream Come True At Finnkova

4yo dog and sire to BP. Very attractive, balanced head with kind, intelligent expression. Almond eye, moderate stop and ears in good proportion to skull, set correctly. Strong neck leading onto well laid shoulder. Moderate angulation front and rear. Tight elbows and stands square on neat, tight feet. Excellent spring of rib and short coupled. Strong across the loin and maintains his topline well on the move. Tail correctly carried and well feathered. Would like a touch more leg length to complete the picture.

2nd: Gibson’s Delphox Guiser

22mo dog who you must get your hands on to really appreciate. Masculine head in good proportion. Moderate angulation. Even, balanced movement fore & aft. Shown in good condition. Would prefer a little less white on his forelegs. An honest dog.

1st: Rogers’ Eusanit Peaky Blinder

6yo d who was shown to advantage today. Almond shaped, dark eyes. Moderate stop and strong muzzle. Good shape and size to ears, correctly set. Excellent front assembly and balanced, moderate angulation. Masculine all through and well off for bone and overall substance. Moved positively around the ring with accurate footfall. Was in strong contention for top honours.

2nd: Fincham’s Danehaven Macdonalds

4yo d. Lighter in build and different type to 1, but still correct. Excellent head with kind, inquisitive expression. Good length to neck. Balanced angulation front and rear. Stands square in neat, tight feet. White a fraction high on the forelegs, but this does not take away from his overall construction. Tail correctly set and carried well on the move.

3rd: Gough’s Cretshengan Kitchi Lake (a.i.)

Excellent front angulation and forechest. Good width in front and well sprung ribs. Well off for bone and substance and could clearly do a day’s work. Moved with drive and power around the ring. Well feathered and shown in lovely coat condition. Could not deny him the CC today – well deserved!

2nd: Elkin’s Ch Tollelkin Caife Americano SGWC ShCEx

6yo d built on larger lines. Strong, masculine head. Muscular neck. Excellent front angulation. Well-developed ribs and good depth to chest. Excellent substance and muscle tone throughout and not at all surprising that he has his working title. Well angulated behind and stands with parallel hocks. Excellent bone and stands on strong feet. Would prefer him to be a little more compact, however he is well balanced. Shown in excellent coat. Very close decision with 1 & 2. Please to award the RCC.

10yo d with a rich red coat and in excellent condition for his age. Wedge shaped skull, strong neck and moderate angulation. A touch strong in stop. Well sprung ribs and short coupled. Strong across the loin. Preferred his more compact shape to 1 but was lacking drive in his movement today.
