Torquay & District Open Show November 2nd 2024

Many thanks to Torquay & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge the Hound Group (except Whippets) at their Open Show. The show was well run by a hard working committee who looked after me well. Thank you to my steward, Liz for keeping my ring running smoothly. Most of all thank you to all exhibitors for entering their beautiful dogs and excepting my decisions graciously.

1st Gunn & Gunn’s, Stonemartin Ailbe With Katanga ShCEx. Azawak. Super head & expression with ears well set, long neck, enough depth to chest sweeping to good tuck up, well angulated rear, low tail set & moved out well. Best AV Import Register.

Ibizan Hound

Open Dog (2,1ab)

1st Carter’s, Ch Neveah’s Radical Dude (IMP USA). Classic head, reachy neck, good length of shoulder blade, good for ribcage & length leading to well angulated quarters, movement was a tad exuberant but moved OK.

Open Bitch (3,1ab)

1st Carter’s, Ch Afilador Room On The Broom ShCM ShCEx VW. Appealed for quality & breed type. Correct head shape & well set ears, neck set well into shoulder, pleasing depth and body shape, moved with a long reaching stride. BOB

2nd Carter’s, Amahte’s Bewitched VW (IMP CAN.). 11.5 years old & looking good. Later in the day she really appealed in the Veteran Group holding her topline well. She just flowed in movement. I was happy to see her go on to win BVIS. Congratulations to her owner.

1st Wilkinson & Wakeham’s, Wakywilks Celestial. Lovely B/T puppy with classic lines. Pretty head, reachy neck flowing into correctly place front, good ribbing, firm top-line leading to well angulated rear. Moved confidently BOB BPIB PG4

2nd Small’s, Glynlythe’s Heirloom For Devondax. Red of good size, sweetest of heads, well filled front, nice rib & very firm topline, well angled & moved well.

1st Small’s, From Redteckel Story Maxin For Devondax. Red with classic head. Well laid shoulder with elbows well set under, good forechest & well ribbed back, moved soundly.

2nd Wilkinson & Wakeham’s, Bronia Gabriel For Wakywilks JW. Red with good head proportions, balanced front assembly, correct topline and underline,well-muscled hindquarters, moved well

1st Ashby’s, Rayol Pumpkin Pie At Jaxinorydax, Red who showed a lovely balanced outline. Classic head of correct proportions, shape and type, has enough length of neck, correct topline, well ribbed back, well defined hindquarters, moved well.

2nd Rycroft’s, Chidax Sahara Sand By Trisensara. Red with lovely outline, displaying good forechest, topline & underline super, well angled rear, moving out well. BPIB

1st Ashby’s, Rayol Dallas Cowboys At Jazinorydax. Quality male, who catches your eye, very good head proportions, lovely dark eye, good length and strength to neck which leads into a well put together front, , excellent topline, soundly constructed hindquarters & sound on the move. BOB

2nd Rycroft’s, Jacksondax Hornet Hurrah At Trinsensara JW. B/T dog who was also of excellent type, pleasing head & expression, good length to neck into well placed shoulders, correct topline and underline, moved out well.

1st Kilroy’s, Rozelle Rosalie At Janacop. Pleasing head & expression, well angulated front with elbows set under, strong forelegs, good for length of ribbing, quality coat, super muscular quarters which she used to her advantage. BOB & G3

2nd Kilroy’s, Do Smarties At Janacop. Lovely bitch of good size with the prettiest of heads, muscular neck leading to good shoulder placement & return, moved well.

1st Kilroy’s, Blackvien Rambler At Janacop. Quality bitch with excellent head & lovely dark pigmentation. Balanced and strong throughout, held her topline on the move.

1st Healey’s, Vixendax Solstice. Appealing puppy dog who is soundly made all through, ideal for size and overall shape, pleasing head proportions, with dark eyes, and well set ears, level topline, holds himself well on the move. BOB BPIB PG2

2nd Parker’s, Vixendax You And Me At Zorionadax. Litter sister to my winner and the same remarks apply. Quality bitch, feminine head, reachy neck flowing into well angulated front, excellent length of ribbing, firm top-line, moved well.

1st Ellis, Vixendax Make Me A Winner. another who is of the correct size, and displays a correct outline when standing, has a balanced head with dark eyes, has enough length of neck, forequarters still need to strengthen, level topline, moved well.

2nd Hayes, OttNott Doreen Martha. Appealing head & expression. Enough neck, long body, level topline. Moved ok once settled

1st Pugh & Fraser’s, Staregate Stefan At Bystock. Nicely balanced dog with a clean outline, enough length of neck leading into a pleasing front assembly, long body, level topline, soundly made fore and rear quarters, moved accurately all round.

2nd Matthews, Sonham Craker. Smart dog, good for overall size and shape, appeals in head and expression, long neck, ;long body, topline is level, moved with good front extension.

2nd Westaway’s, Minard Whispering Angel At Treranch. Lovely puppy with plenty to like, prettiest of heads and expression, with lovely dark eyes, correct length of neck, well made front, level topline, soundly made hindquarters, Moved out well. BPIB

2nd Partridge’s, Pettigans Viva La Diva By Riveroyal. Pleasing head & expression, long neck flowing into well placed shoulder, adequate length, firm top-line, nicely angulated with good rear, moved freely

1st Turner’s, Devonhound Who’s That Girl JW. This girl really caught my attention, she had great type and quality all through, loved her head and expression, ears set low and of good length, well-muscled neck of pleasing length leading to a well-made, rounded ribcage, top-line strong, correctly angulated hindquarters, footfall was perfect & was impressive on the move viewed from all angles. She had ring presence in abundance. BOB & G1. I was delighted to see her go on to win RBIS. Congratulations to her owners, well deserved.

1st Carter’s, Gouvier Espresso Martini JW. Pleasing head leading to strong muscled neck, correct front construction, well-ribbed back. Good topline, powerful rear, excellent bone. moved steadily & accurately. Well handled

2nd Carter’s, Rangali Booty Licious. More compact than 1. Appealing head & expression, strong neck leading to correct front assembly, firm topline, strong rear. A very excitable exhibit who when settled moved freely.

1st Quantick’s, Parkebreeway Rumour. Stylish puppy with masculine head & well defined stop, powerful neck & well laid back shoulder. Pleasing substance, firm topline & well sprung rib, correct hind angulation, moved well from all angles. Presented in excellent condition & well handled. I fell in love with this young dog & was pleased to award him BPIB PG1. I was delighted to watch him win BPIS. Congratulations to his owners, well deserved.

2nd Scarlett’s Vanitonia Enchanted Over Michelroy. Pleasing head & expression with correctly set ears of good length, muscular neck leading to correct front assembly, level topline, well muscled rear quarters, moved out freely.

1st Breeze & Breeze’s, Parkebreeway Wyseman JW. Well defined head & pleasing expression. Another stylish dog from this kennel who appealed for strength & soundness. Strong neck leading to well placed shoulders, level in topline, just right for hind angulation,

Just flowed in movement which was correct viewed from all angles. BOB G2

2nd Scarlett’s,Rossut Vestry With Michelroy JW Neat compacted bitch who appealed for breed type. Strong neck leading to a well assembled fore front, firm topline, well angulated rear, a sound mover.

1st Livsey’s, Bryntreia Sea Of Love (Whippet). Elegant dog who was so well balanced throughout. Lovely long neck into a well laid shoulder, depth to elbow with sweeping top & underline, strong rear which he used to his advantage.

2nd Foxwell’s, Barnesmore The Lion King (Whippet) Lovely head & expression leading to a correct front assembly, he was sound coming & going & kept his topline.

What a cracking class of stunning dogs, I was really spoilt for choice

1 Philo’s, Sunhouse Black Is Back JW, Upstanding B/W Pointer who commands attention. He stood over the ground with good bone & feet, super outline. On the move he just flowed which won him this hotly contested class.

2 River’s, Ch Orora’s French Silk At Merrimak JW ShCEx OSW. Stunning Bearded Collie in good coat. She just flowed from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. Moved well viewed from all angles.

3 Nicoll’s, Benoveor Sail On To Antreth JW. Welsh Springer Spaniel, finishing off a trio of super exhibits.
