Lancashire Heeler Association

VULNERABLE NATIVE BREEDS, hosted by The Lancashire Heeler Association - 6th October 2024

SUSSEX SPANIELS

JUNIOR (2, 0 abs)

1st Clarke’s Florry’s Big Boy Phil.

Well balanced head, good stop, marked bows, kind and appealing expression, ear set just above level of eyes. Deep chest and ribs well sprung, body strong and level. Good bone, big knees and hock joints, round feet. Moved straight coming and going, displayed typical roll when moving. I am sure with more ringcraft training and show ring experience he will learn to settle when being gone over.

2nd Clark’s Sky’s The Limit.

I found out later that 1st and 2nd are litter mates. Appealing feminine head with kindly expression. Neck of good length, excellent shoulders and upper arm, straight front, good bone, correct well rounded feet. Preferred the fuller rib cage and deeper body of 1st, but at 16 months of age there is time for her to develop more.

POST GRADUATE (6, 2 abs)

1st Short & Bull’s Bakerscroft Beckley Belle.

This lovely happy bitch really took my eye, but slightly over weight for my taste in the challenge for BOB and RBOB. Feminine head with appealing expression from attractive eye, slightly curved skull which was nicely balanced with muzzle, she used her brows well. Sloping shoulders matched good bend of stifle, strong body and deep back ribs, nice tail set just below back. Stood straight all round, good bone and well padded feet. Rich golden liver coat.

2nd Gasher’s Bakerscroft Bosbury Pippin.

Strong masculine head, broad skull, skin forming a natural frown, well feathered fairly large ears. Appealed for balanced outline, good length of neck, strong body, impressive spring of rib. Well boned, nicely shaped feet with plenty of feathering between toes. Liver coloured coat blending to gold, very well handled. Used his tail to express his happiness and willingness to please.

3rd Clark’s Sky’s The Limit.

OPEN DOG (6, 0 abs)

1st Moon’s Deanway Proper Charlie. RBOB.

Beautifully balanced outline of this well coated male. Strength and firm muscle tone all through, impressive ribs, good spring, well ribbed back, deep through flank, level top line. Strong neck of good length and with natural slight arch, shoulders very well laid, deep chest, good bone, large knees, well padded round feet. Plenty of width across thigh, good bend of stifle, large hock joints, short strong rear pasterns. Stood straight from front and back, positive movement coming and going, expertly handled.

2nd Bradbury & Preston’s Harasteorra Big Bear JW.

Beautifully presented and in wonderful condition. This male was fit and well muscled, it showed as he powered round the ring with excellent reach and drive. I loved his head, he has that characteristic expression, kind, and full of mischief, he used his brows well. Broad skull and strong muzzle in perfect balance. Excellent lay back of shoulder, deep through brisket, very good spring of rib, level top line, well turned stifle. Strong bone, large leg joints, big round feet with plenty of feathering. Would prefer tidier movement when coming towards, and he was a little proud of his tail today. Handled to advantage.

3rd Swietalski’s Fred Siop Ganol into Bowswizzler.

OPEN BITCH (4, 1 abs)

1st Mowbray’s Sh Ch Gainsmill Lilly Luna Potter at Crumbledor. BOB.

This was definitely her day today. Appealed for her balanced outline, accurate movement with distinctive roll, and show girl attitude. Feminine head, slightly rounded skull, pretty face with appealing expression. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders, deep chest, breastbone evident, straight strong legs all round, large knuckles, well shaped round feet. Good length and spring to rib cage, strong level body, well muscled hind quarters, good turn of stifle, plenty of width across thigh. Liked her golden liver colour, well presented coat. Beautifully handled.

2nd Bradbury & Preston’s Sh Ch Harasteorra Aphrodite.

Nicely balanced, strong all through, short strong legs, carrying just the right amount of weight. Movement was powerful and accurate in profile, very good reach and drive, handler got the best out of her. Attractive head, typical frown, expressive hazel coloured eyes, useful length of muzzle which completed the balanced shape of head. Impressive angulation at each end with excellent shoulders and width of thighs, well turned stifles. Particularly well presented clean coat.

3rd Matthew’s Foxhampton Foxy Lady.

VETERAN (1, 0 abs)

1st Swietakski’s Sh Ch Sovaroma Relatively Frank with Bowswizzler.

7 year old male, balanced from all angles, pleasing in many ways. Body strong, level and well muscled, impressive rib cage with good spring, depth and length, strong hindquarters, ideal bend of stifle. Well shaped masculine head, slight curve of skull, good stop, kind expression, strong muzzle. Longish neck with good muscle tone, sloping shoulders, well developed chest. His front pasterns could have been stronger when standing, legs were straight coming and going, but he did pace at times today.
