Maghull & Merseyside Canine Society – 1st December 2024
I would like to thank the officers and committee for the invitation and honour of judging Best In Show at this friendly well-run show. Also, to my stewards, Lesley Foster , Michael Paget & Kirsty Biggs, who kept things running smoothly, and to the exhibitors for their entries and allowing me to go over some lovely exhibits.
Bulldog
Junior (5,1) 1st Bland & McElligott’s Kingrock Jemima Puddleduck with Leximus 13mth old Red/White Bitch, A lovely feminine standard size bitch who presents a very balanced picture with everything in proportion and nothing exaggerated. Good head proportions in length and width with flat finely wrinkled forehead between correct rose ears. Beautiful dark expressive eyes, well placed in line with her defined stop. Nose is large and correctly tipped back with open nares. Her muzzle is broad and deep, and she has beautiful upsweep of lower jaw, tidy flews and correct undershot bite. Nice straight front with enough bone, strong pasterns , tidy feet and short nails. Muscular shoulders. Good depth to brisket and she is shapely in body with good, rounded rib cage. In profile she has correct rise to her loin , shapely hindquarters and her tail is mobile and of good length. Shown in excellent coat condition. She was always at one with her handler and she moved soundly around the ring coming and going. BOB and I was delighted to see she was awarded Utility Group 1 under Dave Chapman and then later in a fabulous BIS line up took RBIS.
2nd Peebles & Kirkwoods Weebullz Parabellum 17mth old Red & White Dog who I have had the pleasure of judging before, and he was unlucky to come up against the 1st as there is a lot to like about him. He is lovely standard size male, with good proportions to his masculine head, strong wide jaw , Correct layback in side profile, dark clean eyes, well placed nose with good open nares. Strong well boned straight front. Good depth of brisket and well rounded rib, giving him shapely body. Well-muscled hindquarters with good width of thigh. Sound on the move and well handled, just preferred the overall balance of 1st. RBOB
PG (3,1) 1st Saafan’s Geovanic Cupids Arrow 12mth White Dog another who I have judged very recently, although today he wasn’t as settled. Placed 3rd in previous Junior Class. Coat in excellent clean condition. Good width to skull . Fine wrinkling to forehead. Correct rose ear. Dark eye. Broad muzzle and lower jaw with correct undershot. Well boned front and tacked on shoulder. Strong neck of Moderate length. Good depth of rib and well ribbed back. Topline has rise over his strong muscular loin but would prefer a lower set to tail and more angulation to hindquarters. Once settled was sound on move.
2nd Saafan’s Geovanic Cupid Queen , Red & White Bitch Litter sister to 1st and this young lady was having none of it today demonstrating typical Bulldog stubbornness and giving her handler a really hard time. Feminine head of good proportions with good width between her rose ears. Round moderately sized dark eye. Well placed nose with moderate clean nose roll. Good width to lower jaw and correct undershot. Strong straight well boned front. Good width to chest. Correct topline with rise over loin. She could do with losing a little weight as this did detract from her overall body shape. Movement was hard to assess as she was being a minx but when she co-operated, she was sound.

YKC Members Handling – During each class I asked all handlers to show bite and adjusted one leg on table or in stack on floor. Most handlers coped well with the showing of teeth and bite, however some of the younger handlers missed the correction of the leg. To assist the stewards, please remember to enter the ring wearing your exhibits number. Thank you all for your entries and your courtesy to each other throughout the classes.
