Royal Cheshire County Show 19 June 2024 - Flatcoated Retrievers

Many thanks to the committee for the judging appointment and the opportunity to go over some wonderful dogs. A big thankyou to my stewards who kept the ring flowing smoothly to minimise the amount of time exhibitors and their dogs were waiting exhibitors, waiting in the hot sun which made a change from the day before but it also did affect the dogs with the heat , some wonderful dogs to go over making my choice very hard in some classes

Puppy (3,1)

1.Holman Ronevorg Can I Be Famous 8 months old male a good sized puppy who given time will mature into a handsome dog his head shape was well moulded with a good dark almond shaped eye correct bite a good reach of neck going into well laid back shoulders nice deep chest for one so young he had plenty of bone good spring of rib with a level topline and not to long in the loin he was in good coat a trimmed correctly he flowed round the ring with ease at the correct pace for him and pleased to award him BP

2 Brown Gunnarah’s Lord Hangman this 6 months old male raw baby who enjoyed himself in the ring and with time will mature into a lovely dog he was of a finer type than 1 place and could do with a little bit of trimming on his ears, due to the heat he was reluctant to stand which is easily forgiven with such a young puppy he had a sweet head which will develop in time to a stunning shape correct eye shape and correct bite a good reach of neck and well laid back shoulders depth of chest is good and he had a level topline was shorter in the loin than 1 but still looked balanced and was very happy on the move

Junior (5,3)

1 Bligh Ravencrag Limited Edition18 month male a dog who was really enjoying his time in the ring with a non stop wagging of the tail a dog who managed to give me a quick wash a typical happy Flatcoat he had a well moulded head with a good eye shape and colour, correct bite leading into a good reach of neck well laid back shoulders and a good upper arm he had a deep chest with a good spring of rib slightly long in the loin but well muscled thighs and good bend of stifle and a good set of tail presented beautifully moved without effort showing true power with out lumber

2 Hewison Benvellyn Marakele Into Casblaidd 17 months female a lovely girl who was pushing hard for first place but wasn’t as happy today in the ring due to the heat, she has a typical female head with good coloured eyes and a nice almond shape leading into a moderate reach of neck into well laid back shoulders and good upper arm a moderate deep chest and reasonable spring of rib with a good bend of stifle which was well muscled she carried her tail slightly high on the move but kept her topline

Graduate 5

1 Clark Hurstclough Night Owl At Flanova lovely Male who will be 2 in July groomed to perfection and his coat had a great shine to it in the sunshine he caught my eye as he entered the ring and he just missed out on the top spot RBOB he has a typical male head with a lovely almond eye shape and correct colour he had a good reach of neck and correct laid back shoulders a good length of upper arm a good deep chest which gave a good spring of rib and wasn’t to long in the loin a lovely bend of stifle good bone and nice tight feet set of tail was correct which was held at a correct height on the move he showed true power without lumber movement and effortless flowed around the ring I will watch this dog with great interest

2 Hayley & Smith Skybrook If By Chance (AI) a 3 year old female smaller than 1st place but very well balanced finer in bone but with a lovely head which was correct in proportions she had a good reach of neck and well placed shoulders good bone and well-muscled second thigh carried her tail slightly high on the move had lovely featherings was a bit fidgety in the stack but in the heat it wasn’t surprising

1 Burroughs I Know Him So Well At Roakaness JW this male of 2 years has a lovely well balanced head of correct proportion a good deep chest lovely well set of ear a good depth of chest and well defined brisket a lovely spring of rib with a short loin good bend of stifle a well set on tail which never stopped wagging he moved around the ring with ease

2 Clark Riverglide Santa Barbara At Flanova a 4 year old bitch who had a classic female head in correct proportion lovely almond shaped eye with good dark colour a good reach of neck and well laid back shoulders a reasonable depth of chest good straight front legs moderately sprung ribs and short loin correct bend of stifle adequate feathering and a well set tail

3 Goodman Blacklake Dark Lady For Gayplume

1 Buckley Steelriver Hit The Beach For Buckleyhill BOB 5 year old male who was a true showman from start to finish he had great ring presence and caught my eye from the start of the class giving the outline of a flatcoat that is what we all aspire to see he had great featherings that were not over done and presented well considering the heat he never stopped wagging his tail which was never carried to high at any point his head is perfect in proportion not to broad for a male with eye set correct well set on ears a good reach of neck and correctly placed shoulders a fairly broad chest and a well defined brisket straight forelegs and neat tight feet good spring of ribs leading to a muscular hindquarter with a good bend of stifle and a well let down hock a correct length of tail which was well set on he had true movement which showed the power without lumber pleased to award him BOB

2 Breen Skyloch Say It Like It Is another superb male 4 and half who again gave great ring presence slighter broader head than 1st place but still in proportion good depth of chest and straight front legs nice spring of ribs with a slighter longer loin good bend of stifle and well muscled second thigh well set on tail and good featherings a well developed boy with great movement around the ring

3 Salt Levelmoor Acorn Antiques Via Wetnoses

1 Salt Levelmoor Blackadder a 5 year old female who was sadly lacking in coat due to a recent visit to the vets but looking good otherwise a lovely which was nicely moulded with a slight stop dark brown eyes which were a correct shape ears neat and set well on close to the side of her head good length to neck with well placed shoulders good depth to chest with a well defined brisket and well sprung ribs moderate bend of stifle set of tail correct which never stopped wagging good level topline and moved without effort around the ring

2 Hewison Casblaidd Island In the Sky SGWC KCWGC a 7 year old male the heat seemed to affect his movement today was slightly slow a good sized male with a lovely moulded head lovely eyes in a dark brown ears set correctly, good reach of neck good bone on his legs well muscled and in hard condition tail set well and correct length just lost out to 1st place on movement
