North Eastern Chow Chow Club Open Show

Sunday 15th September 2024

Thanks to the Officers and Committee for the wonderful opportunity to judge their Open Breed Club Show. Many thanks to my support team of Gary Southgate, Wendy Absalom and Vikie Ellis, for keeping everything in order. Congratulatons to the winners but more importantly, to all the exhibitors for showing appreciation to the winners and supporting each other. This was lovely to witness. The bitch challenge was hotly contested and clearly contained future Champions.

Minor Puppy Dog 1.

1. Godber’s Lechan Mr Sandman. 8 months. Promising youngster. Appealing head with broad, flat skull. Correct clean eyes and well-placed thick ears. Correct dentition and pigment. Liked his neck for placement and length. Has depth to chest, a tad long in body. Correct rear angulation with well let down, strong hocks. Moved well with typical gait. Best MPD.

Puppy Dog 2.

1. Irwing’s Beaconpride Trick Or Treat JW. 11 months. Lots to like here as he is beautifully balanced with good bone and substance. Appealing head, super clean expressive eyes all complement his impressive headpiece. Broad in chest. Well ribbed. Stands on good feet. Just to strengthen a tad in rear movement but has plenty of time. Presented in super coat and condition. BPD & RBPIS.

2. Godber’s Lechan Mr Sandman. 1st in MBD

Junior Dog 5

1. Oliveria’s Jodoka The Fool. 15 months. Won a very competitive class of quality youngsters. He scores for type, carries lovely bone and produces a smart outline. Masculine headpiece with broad, flat skull, expressive eyes, ears set well apart. Lovely muzzle to finish. Correct dentition and pigmentation. Well boned throughout. He is already a confident showman and smart on the move. RBD.

2. Steenbergan’s Manchu Xian Off Cenayda’s Home. Appealing Light Shaded Red and at 14 months another promising youngster. Liked his size and balance. He is pleasing to examine. He particularly scores in head and expression. Just lost out to 1 on movement but a close call.

Novice Dog 1

1. Nugent’s Hilltoppride King Koba. Black. 2 years old. Masculine head of nice proportions with flat skull of ample breadth, correctly shaped dark eyes and neat ears. Strong neck, broad deep chest and enough spring of rib. Balanced when standing. Moved OK.

He is nicely proportioned, has a clean, masculine head with broad, flat skull. Good muzzle to finish. Bright expressive eyes. He stands well naturally. Movement to settle.

Limit Dog 3

1. Wilson’s Jabrevia Hot On My Toes. 20 months. Impressive dog. He has excellent balance and produces a clean outline. He is confident and alert. Masculine and strong but not overdone. His head is typical giving that scowling expression. On the move he holds himself together with a secure backline and makes full use of his well angulated front and rear assembly. Without hesitation, I was delighted to award him BD & BIS.

2. Philips’s Lechan Black Muse. Black. Balanced, upstanding and nicely balanced. Clean strong head but not overdone. Good for bite and pigment. Body has good width and chest has depth. Balanced neck and well placed shoulders. A tad disappointing on the move.

3. Hunt & Oliver’s Songshijia Chief Kwangchow.

3. Steenburgan’s Mireya Off Cenayda’s Home.

Novice Bitch 1

1. Southgate’s Santicana Queen Of Spades. 9 months. Loved her head. She is well bodied and of a nice shape but she was rather nervous and particularly when attempting to examine her on the ramp so it had to be basic and elementary. Just needs time.

Graduate Bitch 1

1. Fisher’s Poppykins Golden Ticket. 13 months. I admired her head for expression. Broad skull, clean dark attractive eyes, good dentition and finish. At this stage of development, naturally she will mature. Good to examine and already possesses a well-made body and sturdy front legs. Liked her typical profile action; rear movement to strengthen.

Post Graduate 1

1. Rennie’s Rendel Love Me Tender. 2 years old. Ultra feminine but with substance and bone to compliment. She is delightful to go over and sound and typical on the move. I loved her expressive dark eyes, excellent dentition and pigmentation finished with good breadth to muzzle. Well placed ears. Compact, ribbed body. She was presented in first class condition. In a hotly contested challenge I felt the result of a long day illustrated she was not quite as animated as she appeared in the class. Notwithstanding, she is a beautiful example of the breed.

Limit Bitch 1

1. Hunt and Oliver’s Mosspark Blue Spangle JW. 2nd in Veteran D/B.
