Heywood & Ratcliffe CS Open Show Sunday 28th January 2024

Thank you to the Society for this invitation and to my very hard working stewards. We worked together for almost 6 hours non-stop to enable BIS to take place and the show conclude in the middle of the afternoon. I had the pleasure of judging some superb dogs.

Jack Russell Terrier

Junior 3.1

1. Collier’s Locheil Rockin Around At Beesting D, 15 months, Balanced head, excellent dentition. Super for ribbing and body. Perhaps a tad more upper arm to give front extension. Correct tail. Carries himself very well.

2. Copping & Winnard’s Jaeva Moon Pilot For Rutarro. 7 months and giving a lot away in maturity. Excells in head qualities, particularly his expression. Good body for age. Moved OK and coat coming through. Best Puppy & PG3.

1. Grime’s Twinan Wild Child At Ansona, B. Feminine and of a lovely size. Head has an impressive balance in both strength and foreface. Excellent topline and good rear. Carries a perfect topline. Nicely bodied with good ribbing. High set tail. Workmanlike and unexaggerated, she is nicely angulated throughout producing impressive movement. Should have a good future. BOB & Terrier G2.

Border Terrier

Puppy 2.1

1. Dawson’s Morley’s Miss Zeva, B. Feminine 11 months old. Smaller in statue. Gorgeous expression with lovely dark eyes and good ear placement. Excellent thick pelt. Rectangular body and good proportions of leg length and body depth. Spanned very well. Nice tight jacket. Tail well set on. Excellent mover. BPIB & BOB. Group 4, Puppy G1.

Junior 2,1

1. Shepherd’s Hollyherd Platinum Jubilee B. 15 months. Another dog who was good for size and balance. Good head properties, nice length of neck and good length of rib. Liked his top line, tail set a tad low. Spanned OK. Steady mover.

Post Graduate 4,1

1. Taylor’s Nottorg Nekesa. B. Good size. Attractive head. Good dentition. Would prefer a touch more neck. Spanned well. Good textured coat. Steady mover. RBOB

2. Keefe’s Keebank Platinum Queen. 19 months. I particularly liked this young B on the table and she examined well. Correct head giving keen expression. Spanned well. Seem to lose confidence on the move and rather ‘bunched up’ which was a real pity.

1. Keefe’s Keebank Just In Time. 4 years old dog. Nice head. Old fashioned type. Excellent pelt. Liked his reach of neck. Would prefer him narrower all through and a touch shorter in loin. Sound honest mover.

Junior 3,2

1. Gee’s Watercroft Nora Batty B. 9 months. Liked her size and femininity. Pleasing head being nicely balanced with good width to the skull. Well defined stop. Keen and alert. Firm and level topline, good depth to the ribcage. Excellent tail set. Coat coming through. Moved positively. Best Puppy. PG2.

1. Gee’s Watercroft Crafty Monkey B. 13 months Full of quality and very much experiencing the ‘in between stage’. Notwithstanding, head is most appealing, correct length of neck, deep in the brisket, Good chest and well sprung ribs. Super mover and clearly one to watch. RBOB

1. Gee’s Watercroft Tiger Feet. D. 16 months. This quality red dog has so much to admire. Having judged him as a puppy, he is now even better. So very smart when stood and never stopped showing to win BOB. He later won a hotly contested Terrier Group and was clearly a strong contender in the BIS ring when he tried his best to throw away his chances so had to settle for Reserve BIS among great company.

1. Symes & Pease’s Manchester T. D. 10 months. Impressive mover. Nicely put together. Super for head and expression. Ears to settle. Showing lots of promise and once he gains a little more confidence should do very well. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Best AVNSC Terrier Puppy & PG4.

Junior 5,3

1. Rimmer’s Plunkett Woody At Kylini PJRT, D. Well-shaped balanced head. In good coat and overall condition. Strongly made and perhaps a touch larger than ideal. Good for head and dentition. Moved well and in harmony with handler to show in a positive manner.

2. Nun’s Mactufts Brave Mans Game, Bedlington T. 15 months. Good for head shape and balance, eyes and ears. Super dentition. At times topline was a tad unsettled. Excellent feet and quality jacket. Typical movement.

Post Graduate 3,1

1. Entwistle’s Holtaire Runa, Manchester T B. This 18-month-old and was really impressive to examine and presents such a typical silhouette when standing. Super coat and colour combination. Moved OK.

2. Wilkinson’s Cyane River At Cranmoss, Kerry Blue T, B. 20 months. Feminine head well balanced. Overall, of impressive size with good neck. Well bodied. A little unsettled but gained confidence.

1. Gleave’s Laketrix Prima Ballerina Lakeland T, B. Won a very nice class to adjudicate. Compact, well balanced, and feminine but having workmanlike qualities. Head contains dark expressive eyes, strong jaw. Arched neck, leading to smooth well-placed shoulders, level topline. Short back with good ribs; strong harsh coat. Moved well. Best AVNSC & Terrier Group 3.

2. Roulston’s Fox T (Wire), B. Smart and well presented. Shows to best advantage. OK for head. Very good neck and shoulders. Excellent tailset and carriage. Harsh coat in correct trim. Moved well. Reserve Best AVNSC Terrier.

1. Cradock’s Kinlockbulls Chopard, B Feminine 12-month-old. Impressive front assembly. Strong bone and well bodied. Clean, clear dark eyes. Good nostrils. Strong jaws with correct dentition. Good tail. Compact neat round feet. Moved in typical gait.

1. Watkins’s Chay Hot To trot, B. 17 months. Strong bone filling her fame. Well ribbed. Large head size, eyes dark and clear. Well-padded muzzle, excellent nostrils. Strong well-fitting jaws. Moved steadily.

1. Simpson’s Bullmont Notorious By Ironheart, D. 2 years old. Red & white. Well boned, ample substance. Clean dark eyes. Liked his head qualities. Open nostrils. OK dentition. Strong square front. Compact feet. Tail set OK. Super coat. Moved well. BOB.

2. Cradock’s Kinlockbulls Cartier 2 years. Nicely bodied. Open nostrils with a good mouth; dark clear eyes. Pleasing topline with ample substance. Handled and moved well. Preferred head qualities of 1.

1. Roulston’s Ivy Jewel Put A Light On Me. 10 months. Instantly creates an impression by his showmanship. Typical head which is nicely marked and contains correct dentition. Muzzle of correct length. Neat forequarters, having straight legs, strong pasterns. Great for neck. Secure backline with short strong loins. Tail set on low. Moved superbly. Pressed kennel mate very hard for BOB but just lost out on maturity. RBOB, BPIB, PG1 BPIS.

2. Wildman & Davis’s Wildax Rowendale Stan Francisco. Larger in size. Attractive head and expression. Body a tad rangier than 1. Correct topline and low set tail. Confident showman and good profile movement.

1. Davies’s Amadar Captain Jack. D. 2 years. Admirable head with square skull being flat on top, muzzle relatively short. OK ears. Balanced angulations. Correct tail set on low. Pasterns OK. Comes into his own on the move.

1. Roulston’s Ivy Jewel Dare To Dream. 20 months and terrific showman. Stands alertly. Super head, with very alert expression. Dark round eyes. Well placed erect ears. Square skull, super muzzle and finish, carried on a slightly arched neck. Body is so well balanced with ribs extending well. Excellent coat of good markings. Strong, muscular hindquarters. Clean front; excellent shoulders. Never put a foot wrong. BOB

1. Mhatre’s Alchez After The Storm. B/W D. 3 years. Correct head proportions, containing super eyes, broad wide jaw. Impressive length of neck, secure level top line and well ribbed body. Presented in super coat and condition. BOB

2. Provost’s Paliden Magic Star. 2 years. D. Attractive head and expression. Pleasing eyes; excellent nostrils. Not the neck of 1. Well ribbed body presents a good outline on the move using his well angulated hindquarters to advantage. RBOB

1. Cutts & Smith’s Tameron Mr Gold Xcess. 4 years. D. Lovely large head, good skull shape, super eyes, correct square & broad muzzle and large nose well placed. Would prefer a touch more length of neck. Excells in body. When standing produces a balanced shape. A little nervous on the table and a tad unsettled. Moved OK.

1. Roberts’s Mytilene Back to Black into Barbledale. d. 15 months. Sturdy, masculine and well balanced in outline, holding a level topline. Body was well ribbed with strong in loins. Nicely angulated. Tail Ok. Moved well in profile.

Post Graduate 1

1. Hall’s Shenedene Copy and Paste. B. This 16 month old B, presents a lovely overall shape. She is well angulated front and rear, good length & depth of ribcage. Super high tail set, well carried. Upon examination I found her so well balanced. Her skull is correctly small, with a good dark oval eye. In superb coat and moved well around the ring using her proud neck to advantage. Clearly a champion in the making. Amongst strong competition, I had no hesitation in awarding her BOB and look forward to watching her progress. G2

1. Robert’s Ch Domensa Glint of Glory With Marbledale. B. Feminine mature B, with correct head proportions, lovely eyes portraying a glorious expression. Correct bite. Well balanced in outline. Nicely angulated throughout with a defined fore chest and excellent ribbing. She moved soundly holding her topline. Well-handled and presented. RBOB

2. Hall’s Shenedene Next Top Model. Loved her feminine head containing dark oval shaped eyes. Correct length of muzzle and excellent mouth. Firm, correctly angulated shoulders, well ribbed and strong loins. OK for neck. Kept her shape on the move. Well-presented coat.

1. Roskell’s Phixons Staumann. D. Almost 2 years. Super head portraying a typical expression. Produces a lovely shape when standing. Correct angulations, clean front with quality bone and tight feet. Well bodied. Tail well set. Fit and well-muscled. Excellent rear. Impressive mover. BOB & G3.

1. Kelly & Ritchie’s Afterglow Flamenco (Re-Imp). B. 3 years. Feminine head of good proportions, good skull and developed cheeks, has correct stop. Tapering muzzle well filled. Produced in good body condition, well ribbed. Tail well set on. Presented in super coat and condition. Close call here but just preferred rear movement of 1. RBOB.

1. Wildman and Davies’s Wildax Rowendale Just Eric. D. His head proportions were most impressive which influenced the placings between these two very different types. Flat skull with high set super ears; well defined muzzle to finish. Ample chest and spring of rib. Good neck. A tad rangy. Moved very well which made the difference. BOB & G4

2. Timms and Henerson’s Olijah Fully Loaded. B. Lovely size. Impressive head having a flat skull, containing dark eyes with good width between ears. Correct mouth. Strong muscular forelegs, wide brisket & well sprung ribs and strong loin. Movement disappointed. RBOB. BPIB & PG2

1. Holmes’s Ch Dencas Hold My Heart. D. 3 years. Feminine and of a lovely size. Balanced and attentive to handler at all times. Super head and expression. Good for neck and shoulders. Neat front. Short back. Niceley angulated. Well presented coat. Moved so well. Contender in a very strong Utility Group. BOB

1. Huyton’s Afterglow Prefab Sprout. Poodle (Toy). B. 8 months. Super black coat. Head with lovely eyes and expression. Square in outline, nice light mover with good forehand stride and rear drive. Well handled. Best AVNSC Puppy.

2. Lockyer’s Miccosukees Oklahoma, Schnauzer. D. Another promising baby, 7 months. Short coupled with ribs well sprung. Super body and loins. Harsh coat. Liked his head qualities. A touch unsettled on the move which will improve with maturity. Close call.

Junior 6,1

It must be noted that this class contained 5 top quality youngsters and was, undoubtedly, the class of the day and a pleasure to judge.

1. Ward’s Llwyni Rock N’Roll Star, Japanese Spitz. D. Just out of puppy. My notes record ‘simply lovely’. A young, handsome pretender. Gorgeous white coat with the blackest of pigmentation to boot. Expressive captivating eyes, wedge shaped muzzle. Small erect ears. Correct stop. Neck flows into well placed and proportioned shoulders. Strong neat front. Well angulated hindquarters. Super on the move and stunning in profile. Best AVNSC, G1 & BIS

2. Moir’s Jansanleis Rave, German Spitz (Mittel) B. Another one so typical in type. Of correct balance and proportions, beautiful head containing dark oval eyes giving typical and expression, excellent top-line and tail, correct neck, good shoulders, good for chest and ribbing, moderate rear and nicely set and carried tail. Free, effortless movement.

3. Moores and Speakman’s Ataraksia Blue Lagoon For Sachemic JW (Poodle standard)

1. Barret and Clarke’s Witchgate Toast Of The Town, Shar Pei B. Lovely head which was well-proportioned; small well placed ears. Compact and square in profile. Short, harsh coat. Super skin covering the head and body. In great condition.

2. Wilson and Steinert’s Dallas De Gun Dor with Niaveera, Poodle (Standard). D. Impressive when standing. Well presented. OK head. Excellent body. Tail well set. Holds a secure backline on the move. Strong rear drive.

Firm secure back. Super length of neck. Impressive angulations all aided purposeful, accurate and positive movement. Clearly one to watch. Best AVNSC Hound and PG1.

2. Seddon’s Dalpatricks Top Gun At Sedonia, Bassett Hound Tri. D. Another top quality puppy. 10 months and mature for age. Balanced throughout with good substance. Sturdy topline, strong broad back. I liked his head shape which was nicely proportioned framed by low set ears. Good eyes. Lovely character. Moved very well.

1. Pearson’s Armardio Candle In The Wind. B. Bassett. 16 months. Impressive! Feminine but with ample substance. Great head with lovely dome, tapered muzzle. Well set ears, hanging correctly. Strong front assembly, well filled. Feet are well knuckled and padded. Shown in great muscled condition. She moved effortless. Clearly has a bright future. Best AVNSC & G1.

2. Bartley’s Erylan Psiedon De La Mer (Basset GV), 12 months. Another nice one. In good textured jacket. Correct head with very attractive dark eyes. Ideal leathers. Muzzle balanced. Well laid shoulders; sufficient forechest. Good feet. Well ribbed. Moved well using his strong hindquarters to advantage. Reserve Best AVNSC.

1. Pearson’s Armardio Candle In The Wind. Junior Class winner.

2. Casentieri’s The Impossible Girl Of Alchez, Basenji. 20 months. Pushed 1 all the way. Beautifully presented. Fit and well-muscled. Admired her overall balance and size. Typical head, super pricked ears carried well. High set tail with curl. Her movement was purposeful but just became a tad untidy in the final adjudication. Close call.

1. Pearson’s Armardio Wind of Change JW. Another super one from this kennel. Lovely character! Correct feminine head with depth to her flews. Front assembly is admirable; prominent chest bone. Well ribbed body. She moves freely with daylight under. Looks super when stacked. Close call between her and her youngster sister in the challenge.

2. Rackza’s Jamarqui Alchemy Argent, Borzoi. Mature D. Balanced head with the darkest of eyes. Upstanding and of generous proportions. Of good bone with strong well-padded feet. Admirable depth of brisket; good for ribbing and has a broad well muscled loins. Well angulated stifles and strong hocks. Shown in super coat and condition. Moved better when working on the mat but clearly hated the outer floor.

1. Binnersley & Tomkinson’s Xtreame Mr President V D Mergelhoeve At Morthound (Imp NLD), Coonhound – B/T. 18 months. B. Lots to like and admire. She is so well put together and produces a super clean outline. Excellent ears, correct top-line well set tail. Liked her depth of body and quantity of bone. Moved superbly and presented in great coat and condition. Best Imp Register & G2
