Lichfield Canine Society

Lichfield Canine Society 6/1/24 Hovawart I take my hat off to the Officers and Committee of Lichfield C.S. Despite the cold weather, patchy fog and motorway closures there was a really good turnout at Stafford for this well organised and friendly Open Show. The show had attracted an overall entry of 1840 dogs making an entry of nearly 2700. Congratulations, that’s a great achievement. Sadly, I can’t claim any credit for the great entry as my sole assignment was an entry of four Hovawarts and with a 50% absentee rate in the breed it meant there were just two bitches, both black and gold, present. However, they both had some quality, were well balanced and very typical. Winner of the Junior Class was Robinson and Brown’s Hightimbers Oreo Cookie. Still very much a teenager but her lovely even temperament was immediately apparent. Pleasing head with some breadth of skull, good planes and dark eyes. Pleasing forehand with some breadth and depth of chest. Ribs extend well back. Well angulated and shown in good coat and muscle tone. Free moving and sound but really deserves a bigger ring to make the most of herself. Reserve BOB. The winner of Open was McLure’s Kanukalos Burletta. I loved her head and kind, intelligent expression. Well set ears of good length, medium brown expressive eyes. Strong muzzle. Excellent forehand with good depth of chest. Very good legs and nicely padded feet. Well ribbed with depth of brisket and moderate tuck up. Strong hindquarters , short from hock to heel. Tail of good length. Very impressive, easy profile action. Shown in first class condition. Judge: Tom Mather
