CITY OF CAMBRIDGE & COUNTY CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW 20th July 2024

My thanks to the Officers and Committee of the Society for the opportunity to judge at their show, set in a lovely outdoor venue, and of course to all the exhibitors for the great pleasure of going over their dogs. Summer finally decided to start in earnest and we all roasted in the hot sun. It’s fair to say that some exhibits coped better than others and I kept movement to a minimum to avoid everyone over-heating.

ENGLISH SETTER

PUPPY (2 entries)

1st McLoughlin’s ARABIN LOVE MAYBE, well-grown 7m B/B B with eye-catching outline, balanced head with chiselling developing nicely, eyes dark & will tighten as she matures and her head finishes, long & clean in neck leading to well laid shoulders, liked her depth of chest & well-fitting elbows, short & level in back with well-sprung ribs, strongly coupled, excellent width & strength in hindquarters, long from hip to hock, moved very well with plenty of drive & extension, BPIB

2nd Whiting & Grant’s KANIETTER SASSY SEASTAR AT ORMSTIGA, balanced outline on this 10m B/B B with everything in proportion, pretty feminine head with gentle expression in her dark eyes, not quite the balance in skull & muzzle of 1st at present, long neck leading to well-angulated front, deep chest, well-developed through body with strong couplings, back short & level, well let down and not over-angulated behind, lighter-boned & lacking substance of 1st at present but has time on her side, moved steadily

JUNIOR (3, 1 absent)

1st Skeggs-Gooch’s NELLASETT VELVET BROWN, attractive & well-boned 15m B/B Tri B, lean head with plenty of work & strength in it, would prefer a fraction more oval skull shape, dark eye giving lovely mild expression, pleasing length of neck & front angulation, sufficient forechest, liked her depth of brisket & elbows set close to body, well-ribbed, strong enough in couplings, broad thighs, enough bend of stifle without exaggeration, she used her strong hindquarters to move out with drive

2nd White’s DROVEBOROUGH SILVER PEARL FOR PADUAN, 12m B/B B, only a day out of Puppy, lean feminine head, good length of neck set into well-laid shoulders, shorter in upper arm than 1st, but has enough forechest, deep brisket with tight elbows, strong bone, liked her depth & strength in body though would benefit from a little more leg length for better overall balance as she is not the tallest, shapely & well-muscled hindquarters which were well let done, moved steadily

POST GRADUATE (2, 1 absent)

1st McLoughlin’s ARABIN SILVER PANDA, strikingly marked well-boned & mature 3 yrs Tri B/B B, nicely-balanced & well-worked head, lean muzzle with sufficient depth, lovely expression, long neck, well laid shoulders, enough return of upper arm, great depth of brisket, well sprung ribs, strong over loin, excellent width of thigh, well-angulated stifles, stylish mover holding her head held high, shame she was not in her best jacket after a litter which could have been the icing on the cake, RBOB

OPEN (3, 2 absent)
