Guildford & District CS Valentine’s Premier Open Show 18th February 2024 South of England Showground

Thank you to the Committee for my invitation to judge at the show and for the refreshments provided on the day. I wish to thank all of the exhibitors who gave me the privilege of their entries. I am sorry if my judging wasn’t fast enough for some. However, I am sure that everyone was given time and consideration equally and had their money’s worth. My day was really long as I had some judging at the beginning of the day then a long break and once an available ring was found I could start the YHA Junior & Adult handling, I found some very promising handlers although I believe some study of the points of a dog and the golden rule are needed for improvement for many of them. I was pleased with the YHA classes and my winners who had obviously been putting a lot into their skills as young handlers my overall Best Junior handler was very attentive to his dog and has a very bright future. The Hound Group was amazing to judge with so many lovely and very sound dogs to choose from. A large AV Special Beginners class at the very end of the day with some very promising dogs and handlers. I thank my steward for the day Carly Turner who worked really hard all day.

He carried out his triangle perfectly and followed my instructions to the letter, he moved his dog very well and presented her well at every opportunity. He was able to answer my points of the dog question and was very sportsmanlike and considerate to the other exhibitors. He has made a very good start and should do really well if he keeps at it. Leah Sharp age 6, a young lady handling an English Toy Terrier, she did well moving the dog in the triangle and up and down, but needs to be taught the golden rule and to learn some of the points of the dog so that she can progress, she was attentive to her dog, but needs a little help with the standing. Well done.
