Handling classes at Worcester & Malvern CS Open show on 7th January 2024

Junior Handling Association

6-11 Years (4, 3abs) 1, Lucy Kinchin age 11 with Jack Russell Terrier, Lucy has only been doing handling for a year and still needs to gain more confidence, she presented her young bitch very well but needs to perfect the stand, her triangle and reverse triangle were good, she was not confident when answering my questions on the points of the dog. I have recommended that she study on the KC Academy and if she can read Marina Whites Book on Junior handling to help her. A promising young handler. Well done.

12 – 18 Years 1, Megan Slack age 15 Handling a Portuguese Water Dog, very well turned out and at one with her dog, was able to answer all of my points of the dog questions and complete the figure work really well with smooth lead changes and her adherence to the golden rule was excellent, she moved and presented her dog really well t win over a very good handler in second place, I am sure both girls have a bright future. Well done. Was awarded Best Junior Handler but lost out to the Best Adult handler in the challenge.

2, Francesca Wilson age 15, well turned out, handling a German Spitz (Klein) Veteran bitch, she was gentle with her dog and answered my questions on the points of the dog well, her figure work was good apart from she did an extra up and down that I didn’t ask for, she was good with the golden rule both on the table and on the floor. Had her ring number under her blouse and not on show. A good handler well done.

Adult Handling Association

17-35 Years (8,6abs) 1, Georgia Brown very well turned out handling a very smart Springer Spaniel, very good presentation of her dog, good lead changes on the corners of the triangle and reverse triangle, easily answered my questions on the points of a dog and was very good with the golden rule. She followed my instructions to the letter. A very nice handler. Well done.

2, Brenda Jenkins handling a well turned out Welsh Springer Spaniel, she was smart, well turned out and an alert handler, who followed my instructions well and answered my questions, her figure work was very good and this was very close between my first and second placings. Well done.

36 Years & Over (15, 7abs) This was a lovely class to judge with handlers of varying experience some of the newer ones need to study on the Kennel Club Academy for the points of a dog and maybe have a read of Marina White’s book on Junior handling, as all of the same points apply to adult handling as to Child handing and some good points can be gained from this book. My first two placings were very close and excellent handlers.

1, Hailey McKnight handling a Mature Tibetan Spaniel, very smartly turned out both dog and handler, smooth lead changes, excellent figure work, followed the golden rule both on the table and the floor, answered my points of a dog questions with ease and confidence, very attentive to her dog and gentle whilst handling at every point. Won this class and was awarded Best Adult Handler and Best Overall Handler, I could not fault her, when asked to do a T her smooth lead changes and flowing handling of the dog were excellent. Well done.

2, Kaye Whittingham handling a well turned-out Australian Shepherd, very close up on the winner, so well presented and answered all of my questions, moved her dog correctly for all of the figures, very good gaiting and standing, was easily able to answer my points of the dog questions and never put a foot wrong with the golden rule, just unlucky to meet my first place who just had the edge with smoother lead changes. Well done.

3, Sarah Slack.
