Critique for North of Ireland Cocker Spaniel Club Open Show

Many thanks to the Officers and Committee for the privilege of judging at their 90th Anniversary breed open show also to the exhibitors for entering their dogs and accepting my placings graciously. Thanks also to my steward, Heather, who kept the ring running efficiently. Although not a numerically large entry, the quality of exhibits was high and necessitated several difficult choices,

COCKER SPANIEL V D/B 2,(0) 1. Mrs A Ireland’s THORNBROOK SOMEBODY TO LOVE 8 year old blue roan bitch, good shoulder placement and correct tail set. Kind expression with bright eyes and tight rims. Merry on the move demonstrating that she was still enjoying her day in the ring. BVB & BVIS 2. Mr M Nesbitt’s TIN TOWN BLYMIE 9 ½ year old red dog. Well developed deep chest and well sprung ribs. Strong well boned legs and capable of doing a day’s work.

SFT D/B 1,(0) 1. Mr M Nesbitt’s BUSHFLY LITTLE ROCKY ONE 3 year old black and tan dog, well muscled with deep chest and good rib and bone. Rich tan markings and alert expression.

PD 1(,0) Mrs L Baillie’s THORNBROOK LITTLE ARROW 10 month old dog short in loin and well ribbed with correct tail set. Alert expression, taking in everything around him and merry on the move. BPD & BP

JD 2,(1) 1. Mr R Maguire’s SUGUIRE STORM CHASER 13 month dark blue roan boy with good rib and bone. Short and coby with good reach of neck. Well proportioned head and dark eye with alert expression. Presented in stunning condition which only served to enhance the overall picture of this lad. Impressive performance at only his second show. BD & BIS

GD 0,(0) LD 1,(0) Miss Mcilmoyle’s ZAHIRCOCKER POTE GALVEZ OF KENSINOVA (Imp Ita) 2 ½ year old liver roan dog. Well presented with good bone and short in loin. Masculine head but not harsh. Moved well but didn’t use his tail at all which slightly spoiled the picture.

OD 4,(1) 1. Mrs L Baillie’s THORNBROOK STAGE WHISPERER 3 year old substantial blue roan dog. Good shoulder placement with good reach of neck. Deep chest and well ribbed. Moved with drive. RBD 2. Mr M Nesbitt’s BUSHFLY LITTLE ROCKY ONE 3. Miss Mcilmoyle’s ZAHIRCOCKER POTE GALVEZ OF KENSINOVA (Imp Ita)

PB 1,(0) 1. Mrs L Baillie’s THORNBROOK TEQUILA ROSE 12 month old orange roan bitch, short in loin and good depth of chest. Feminine head with nice tight eye. BPB.

JB 4,(2) 1. Mrs K Brennan’s SPARKLETTE SHINES AT CHARBONNEL 17 month black bitch with good shoulder placement and deep chest. Good turn of stifle and well boned. BB & RBIS 2. Mr K & Mrs K Coulter & Coulter-McCullagh’s TOBERSHAN FELICITE TOTAL 14 month orange roan bitch. Good reach of neck and shoulder placement. Well feathered coat in immaculate condition. Slightly narrower in front than first placed and perhaps needs a little more time to mature.

GB 2,(1) 1. Mrs L Baillie’s THORNBROOK PRINCESS IN PINK 2 ½ year old orange roan bitch. Very pretty feminine head with tight dark eye. Fine boned but nice square shape.

LB 6,(3) 1. Mr K & Mrs K Coulter & Coulter-McCullagh’s TOBERSHAN DEJA VOUS 2 year old blue roan bitch. Short and cobby with good bone and nice reach of neck. Good turn of stifle and tight dark eye. Moved out well using her tail to advantage. 2. Miss Skillen’s SKILLANNA THIS IS ME 2 ½ year old blue roan, another nice bitch with square outline and good bone. Feminine head and dark eye. Would like more drive from the rear. 3. Mrs A Ireland’s HARADWATER SHOW ME LOVE.

OB 8,(4) 1. Mr K & Mrs K Coulter & Coulter-McCullagh’s SH CH TOBERSHAN C’EST LA VIE 3 year old red bitch. Good depth of chest and well boned. Nice dark eye and nose. Moved straight and true. 2. Miss Skillen’s LAVERIS SHE’S THE ONE SKILLANNA 5 year old blue roan bitch. Short in loin with good bone. Merry on the move slightly lacked the reach and drive of first. 3. Mr R Maguire’s SUGUIRE TAKE MY BREATH
