Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society Open Show 30th May 2024
Thank you to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge the Utility Groups and some of the Utility breeds, and your kind hospitality on the day, and to my two ring stewards for being so efficient and keeping the ring in order. I enjoyed going over so many lovely exhibits so a special thank you to the exhibitors who attended despite the cold wet weather, which of course affected the ground conditions and was taken into consideration during the course of the day.
TIBETAN SPANIEL
P (1,0) 1st Harford’s Baarnayotms April Showers at Mennimoonz, a 9 month old silver sable bitch with a pretty black masked face. She has a nicely domed skull and good lift to her well set ears. Her muzzle is of medium length, with a developing chin. Her level topline is complimented by a high set full tail, and she has good angulation front and rear. The long wet grass affected her movement today, making it hard to assess, however I was more than happy to award her BP
J (1,0) 1st Rose’s Crockerne Moonshine at Caselden, a 14 month old gold sable bitch with a delightful pretty head. She has correctly set dark expressive eyes, and good width and depth to her blunt muzzle, her ears are well placed and of medium size with a slight lift. Her coat is of good texture and she was presented in excellent condition. She was not happy on the table today but moved with purpose when settled.
PG (2,0) 1st Perfitt’s Richearon All About Audrey, an 18 month old gold bitch presented in excellent condition, she has a nicely balanced outline, good angulation front and rear and neat hare feet. Her dark oval eyes are well set, she has good width and depth to muzzle and chin, and good dentition. Her short neck is well set on, she has a pleasing spring of rib and a level topline, and a high set well plumed tail. She moved well in all directions, and stood out in the line up BOB. 2nd Harford’s Tuyet Forever Bonnie at Mennimoonz, a 3 year old black bitch, with a delightfully aloof demeanour. She has bright dark eyes, moderate length of muzzle and well set ears with plenty of feathering. She is longer cast than 1st place, with a level topline which she maintained on the move. Good angulation front and rear, she also moved well.
OD (4,0) 1st Carr-Tomlinson’s Tuyet Will-I-Am, a 4 year old silver sable male with a masculine head, dark expressive eyes and pleasing width and depth of muzzle. His ears have a slight lift and plenty of feathering. He was shown in full mature coat, with good depth of chest and spring of rib, and a level topline. He moved and was handled well. 2nd Rose’s Caselden Oliver Twist, at 5 years old, another fully mature silver sable male in full coat, he also has a pleasing masculine head, well placed ears and dark expressive eyes. Good depth of chest and spring of rib, he has a strong neck and well laid shoulders, and good angulation. He lost out on movement today.
OB (2,0) 1st Ross’ Caselden Bella Rose, at 8 years old she presents a lovely balanced outline, with a full silver sable coat of good texture. She has a pretty feminine head, and dark expressive eyes. Her ears are medium sized and her muzzle is blunt and of good width and depth. She has a good spring of rib and level topline, and a high set tail with plenty of plumage. She moved well in all directions, RBOB and 3rd AV Veteran later in the day. 2nd Rose’s Ch Caselden Agatha Christie JW, at 13 years old this lovely silver sable bitch was a delight to go over. She has such a lovely headpiece, and was very alert with expressive dark eyes, excellent earset with slight lift, and just a hint of silver frosting on her blunt cushioned muzzle. Balanced in outline and maintaining her high tailset, she found the grass very interesting and gave her handler a hard time on the move.
BOSTON TERRIER
J 1ST Wildman and Davis’ Wildax Rowendale Stan Francisco, a 14 month old well marked black and white male, he presents an upstanding profile with a strong masculine head in proportion to his body, dark eyes and correctly positioned ears. He has good dentition and a well defined stop. His slightly arched strong neck leads down to well laid shoulders and a straight front and developing chest and rib. He has a level topline and well set tail and moved with ease in all directions. BOB
O 1st Wildman and Davis’ Summergate Brenda Wildax Rowendale, a 3 year old bitch with substance, she has a head of good proportions, width and depth to her short muzzle and dark round eyes giving her a feminine expression. Her correctly sized small thin ears were well set. She has good depth of chest and spring of rib, tight pasterns and a level topline, strong thighs and a good turn of stifle. She also demonstrated the delightful lively Boston temperament RBOB. 2nd Pellowe’s Ch/Int Ch Wildax Endless Love, a 7 year old brindle and white bitch with a pretty feminine head, balanced compact outline and good angulation front and rear. Smaller framed than 1st, she also had tight pasterns and hocks well let down, but sadly she did not want to show herself today, and was feeling the cold.
SCHIPPERKE
J 1st Jones’ Undertaker Jet Du Dragon Rouge de Jupiter, celebrating his 1st birthday today. He has a masculine foxy expression on his head of good proportions, correct bite and good dentition. He has dark oval eyes, small well set ears and moderate length of muzzle. His coat is of good harsh texture, and he carried his tail over his short back. He has developing chest and ribs, and good angulation. His movement was sound, I was pleased to award him BP. 2nd Rollinson’s Chadbower Roisin, a 9 month old bitch with a very appealing feminine expression, she was very alert and attentive, and very lively on the move. She has moderate length of muzzle with good dentition, delightful dark oval expressive eyes, and well set erect ears. Her front is straight, she has small neat feet and a level topline with good angulation front and rear.
O 1st Wilson’s CH/IR Ch Chadbower Nevan Henki Mit Clynalwin JW BEL/IR JCH CJW’18 CW18/19, at 7 years old this dog was very well presented, with the darkest black coat, harsh in texture and with clear definition. He has a smooth head with a masculine foxy expression, well filled under dark expressive eyes, moderate length of muzzle and correct bite. His ears were well set and carried erect and used to advantage at all times. His full mane covered his short strong neck which lead down to sloping well set shoulders. His chest was broad and deep, front straight and feet small and neat. He presented a cobby square outline with a short strong back, powerful loins with a good cut up, hocks were well let down and he moved so well in all directions, at one with his handler. BOB, he continued to show himself all day, UG1 and 1st AV Veteran., and I was delighted to hear he was later awarded BVIS. 2nd Rollinson & Manners’ IR Ch Summerhaze Shafran Among Chadbower (Imp Rus) IR JCH, a 3 year old dog and another male with a delightful masculine expression, he had an alert intelligent glint in his dark eyes, good head proportions and well set ears. Not as full a coat as 1st today, he had a cobby balanced outline, short strong neck, legs well under the body, chest deep and a level topline complimented by a full tail. He moved and was handled well, RBOB
SHIH TZU
J 1ST Moore’s Unstoppable Alpiu Slenis to Jaxtzu (Imp LTU), at just over 6 months old this puppy was a delight to go over. Immaculately presented, he has a dense gold and white coat covering his sturdy frame, a broad round head, round dark expressive eyes and a well placed nose with excellent pigment, a well defined stop and developing width and depth to muzzle. His large well placed ears framed his head completing the picture. He carried his head proudly on his nicely arched neck, with good shoulder placement, developing chest and rib, and a level topline. He has ample bone and presented a nicely balanced outline. Once settled he moved very well on his rounded feet, clearly showing his pads and with his high set tail carried over his back, he continued showing all day, I was pleased to award him BOB, BP, UG3, UPG2. 2nd Marina’s Norboo Do Ya Wanna Play with Marinbox, 7 months old and very active and alert. He also had a dense gold and white coat, a lovely headpiece, developing chest and rib, a level back and correctly set high tail. Very much a puppy, his movement was hard to assess today.
O 1st Mhatre’s Alchez After The Storm, a 3 year old black and white male, with an abundant long dense outer coat. He has large dark round expressive eyes, a square muzzle, black nose and well defined stop, giving him a strong masculine appearance. His ears are heavily coated and well placed, and he has an arched neck leading to well placed shoulders. He is well coupled and has a sturdy balanced frame, and a heavily plumed tail carried well over his back. He moved ok, RBOB
LHASA APSO
P 1ST Adam-Slomkowski’s Frank Dreamed a Dream at Skylax, at just 8 months old this gold male had ring presence in abundance. He has a sturdy well balanced compact outline, head in proportion to his body, dark medium sized eyes, good dentition, well placed ears, and an alert expression. He has a strong arched neck, leading into developing shoulders and rib, a level topline and high set well feathered tail. His round feet were well feathered and he had good angulation front and rear. He held his head high at all times, and demonstrated free flowing movement in all directions. It was a pleasure to award him BP, 1st AV Puppy and UPG1. 2nd Thornhill’s Swandown Snowstorm, a 9 month old gold and white male, larger framed than 1st, he was presented with a full well groomed coat, pleasing head furnishings, dark expressive eyes and good pigment. He has a straight front with developing chest and rib, level topline and well furnished tail. He moved and was well handled.
PG 1st Hayes’ Raushanara Blue Sky over Saksfifth, a 3 year old gold male with an appealing masculine headpiece. He had a full well groomed coat and a nicely balanced outline. His neck is strong and well arched, leading to laid back shoulders, a good front and pleasing depth of chest. He has a level topline and good angulation, and a high set well feathered tail. He was spooked by something outside the ring when he set off, but soon settled down to demonstrate free flowing movement, I was pleased to award him BOB.
O 1st Holgate’s Pipaleen Starlight Warrior, a 6 year old dog sporting a full black and white well groomed coat. He has a strong headset, well placed pendant ears, dark eyes and good length of muzzle. He has a sturdy outline with a straight front and strong loin, just a bit more length of neck would give him a balanced outline. He moved well, RBOB
TIBETAN TERRIER
J 1ST Thomas’ Kelmorespitz’s Bad Habits, a sable bitch just over 12 months old, she presented a pleasing square profile on her medium sized frame. She has a well furnished feminine head and round dark eyes, good length of muzzle and developing lower jaw. She has a pleasing front assembly, developing chest, a short back with level topline and correct tailset. She has ample bone and good angulation, and moved smoothly with good reach and drive, she stood out in the line up, showing herself to advantage, BOB and UG2. 2nd Thorold’s Zilcan Legend of Gelert with Lottanber, a 12 month old dog with a profuse black and white coat of good texture, he is larger framed than 1st, with a pleasing head and good pigment, large feet and correct tailset. Not quite a square outline yet, he also needs to come on in chest and rib.
PG 1st Thomas’ Kelmorespitz’s Afire Love, another at just over 12 months old, a black dog presented in good condition, he has a square outline, pleasing head, strong muzzle, a straight front and strong neck, good angulation and a strong loin, he moved well, lost out in the line up to his litter sister who had a bit more showmanship about her today. RBOB. 2nd Holgate’s Layoli Midnight Gold at Pipaleen, a 3 year old very pretty bitch with a lovely feminine head and alert expression. She has a well groomed full coat, a straight front, good spring of rib and level topline. She has ample bone and large round feet, good length of rib and short strong loin, she moved and was handled well.
O 1st Thomas’ Kelmorespitz Finding Magic, a 16 month old sable, he also stands square in profile, with a pleasing head, dark round eyes and strong muzzle. He has a straight front and good spring of rib, a level topline and high set well feathered tail. Movement was a bit untidy
A.V.N.S.C UTILITY
P 1ST Preston’s Brooksbeauty Songbird, Poodle (Toy), at just 6 months old she has good texture to her cream coat, dark eyes and pigment, a pretty feminine expression, well set ears and good dentition. Developing in all areas, she has a short back and pleasing turn of stifle. She was very lively and bouncy but demonstrated good movement when she settled. BP
J 1st McLoughlin’s Zantescwtch Jack of Hearts, Poodle (Standard).At 14 months this cream male has a pleasing upright outline, and everything in proportion. I judged him in puppy at the start of the year and he has really come on. His neck is strong and he carries his head high, he has good length of muzzle and strong foreface, flat cheeks and dark pigment. He has a straight front, good depth and width of chest and a short strong back, with a high set tail that finished the picture. He was well presented and moved with plenty of drive. RBOB 2nd Preston’s Duanalbanach Mellow Yellow to Brooksbeauty, Poodle (Standard) 14 month old black bitch I also judged before as a puppy. She was well presented with a harsh dense coat, she has a deep chest and ribs well sprung, a straight front and her shoulders are well laid back, a strong neck and well proportioned head, and good angulation front and rear. It was lovely to see her developing so well however I just preferred the topline and tailset of 1st today.
PG 1st McLoughlin’s Zantescwtch Jack of Hearts, see 1st Junior
O 1st McLoughlin’s Villanders Lemona Woman of Zantescwtch JW, Poodle (Standard), I also judged this now 2 year old bitch in January, and it was a delight to go over her again today. She has a beautiful feminine expression, an elegant balanced outline, and her movement was sound with plenty of drive. Her black coat is profuse with a harsh texture, and she was well presented. She has a good front assembly, short back and high set tail, all in all an attractive picture, BOB. 2nd Bull-Harris’ Starianna Midnight Rider at Pendream, Poodle (Toy), a black male coming up to 2 years old, he has a long fine muzzle and flat cheekbones on his well proportioned head, leathers of good length, and a naughty glint in his dark eyes. He carried his head high on his strong neck, and has a pleasing front assembly and good depth of chest and spring of rib. He has well developed thighs and turn of stifle, and maintained his topline on the move.
IMPORTED BREED REGISTER UTILITY
J 1ST Cassidy’s Chinaskys Smokeing Aces, at just 6 months old this black Xoloitzcuintle (Min) was not enjoying the cold wet muddy conditions, however she has a kind intelligent expression, pleasing wedge shaped head, large fine correctly placed ears, a balanced outline and good angulation. She moved well when settled, I look forward to watching her progress BP
O 1st Yrgalem Dream of Coffee at Chinaskys (Imp Pol) a 13 month old black Xoloitzxuintle (Standard) an upstanding male with a fabulous straight front, strong pasterns, and elbows close to his chest. He has a pleasing wedge shaped head, straight muzzle and almond shaped eyes with an alert expression, and fine well set ears. His neck is long and slightly arched, his back is firm and level and he has a long tapering tail. He presents a well muscled and balanced profile. He was distracted by smells on the grass and made his handler work hard, but demonstrated a graceful springy step when settled. BOB 2nd Cunningham’s Hr Ch Yulyeong Rock Dee Jay, a 3 year old Korean Jindo. He has a balanced outline with everything in proportion. He has a masculine expression, good length and depth of muzzle and well set erect ears, a thick muscular neck and well laid back shoulders. His front is straight and his ribs are well sprung, he has well developed thighs and a moderate turn of stifle. He was also distracted on the move, RBOB

2nd Smith’s Membully Razzmataz at Ellouab, French Bulldog, an 8 month old brindle male with a stunning headpiece. Square in appearance, slight wrinkling to his gently domed forehead, dark well placed eyes with developing fill underneath, cushioning to muzzle, good width to jaw and a pleasing upsweep. He has a kind intelligent expression and a gleaming well marked brindle coat. He has ample bone and developing chest and rib, a gentle roach over his loin and hocks are well let down. His rear movement was a tad loose today which cost him the class.

2nd Jackson and Minshall’s CH Holbain Just Like Bill JW, German Spitz (Klein) a cream male of over 12 years, he was presented in fabulous condition. His coat is harsh, full and well feathered on his compact square frame. He has a handsome head with dark eyes and pigment, correct scissor bite and high set erect ears. No sign of exaggeration in any area, he moved effortlessly and with such style on his small neat feet, a real showman.

UPG3 Wildman and Davis’ Rowendale Wildax Toffifee, French Bulldog, a well marked brindle bitch, just six months old with a pleasing amount of substance and bone, a feminine head with expressive dark eyes and correct earset and developing chest and rib. She moved well when settled, it was enjoyable watching her clown like qualities and making her handler work hard!
UPG4 Mr & Mrs Sampson’s Dalstorm Just Waltzing, Dalmatian, a 9 month old liver bitch with well defined markings on her short coat, she was presented in excellent condition. Elegant and balanced in outline with a pretty feminine headset, she moved smoothly with long strides around the ring and was very well handled.
