GUILDFORD AND DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW 30TH NOVEMBER 2024

Thank you to the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to judge, and to my very efficient ring steward Tracey Gray for keeping the ring moving along so smoothly. Special thanks to both the Southern Boston Terrier Club for supporting my Boston Terrier entry, and to The Poodle Club for supporting my Poodle entries, and thank you of course to the exhibitors who bought their lovely dogs under me on the day.

BOSTON TERRIER

P (1,0) 1st J Cox’ Durobrivae Bumble Bea, a 7 month old black and white bitch with a pretty feminine headset, dark eyes with a kind expression, and developing muzzle and jaw. She was a bit reluctant to use her ears in the first class. She has a pleasing outline, with a level topline, good turn of stifle and a straight front. Her shoulders, chest and rib are all developing nicely, and she settled in the junior class to demonstrate graceful movement in all directions. BP

  J (1,0) 1ST J Cox’ Durobrivae Bumble Bea, see 1st puppy.

PG (3,0) 1ST Mr & Mrs Sandells’ Shawmut Pontiac Chieftain, a 2 year old seal brindle and white dog who I judged last year in junior and he has come on nicely. He has a strong masculine square head, dark eyes and pigment, a well placed nose and smooth forehead. He has a straight front, good angulation to front and rear, and pleasing depth and width of chest. He moved and was handled well. 2nd Mr & Mrs Trevett’s Sarkay Pocketfulasunshine, it was an absolute pleasure to go over this delightful 11 year old bitch, presented in excellent condition with a brindle and white coat, and a hint of silver frosting on her muzzle. She has a feminine head of good proportions, with dark round eyes, and pleasing depth and width of muzzle. She has a level topline, a straight front with tight pasterns, and a good turn of stifle. She is slightly wide in front, however she moved really well round the ring, and still demonstrating the lively strong willed Boston temperament.

O (4,0) 1ST Mrs Tanner’s Wynele Vanentina at Tanver, a 4 year old brindle and white bitch with a beautiful feminine headset, square with everything in proportion and well placed. Her dark round eyes have a lively intelligent glint, and she used her ears to advantage. She presented a balanced compact outline, with a straight front, short tight pasterns, a level topline and well placed tail. She has good depth of chest and spring of rib, small neat feet and a pleasing turn of stifle. She moved so well in all directions, with an easy sure footed gait, it was a pleasure to award her BOB.

2nd Mr & Mrs Sandells’ Shawmut the Trailblazer, a four year old seal brindle and white dog with a pleasing headset, masculine expression and well set ears. He looks good in profile, with a slightly arched neck leading down to well placed shoulders, good depth of chest and spring of rib, a level topline and well set small tail. He has good angulation front and rear and moved well. He was called back into the challenge and was awarded RBOB.

He is balanced in outline, with a masculine headpiece and an intelligent glint in his dark eyes, a strong foreface and low set ears with leathers of good length. His neck is also of good length, down into well laid shoulders, a straight front and neat feet. He has a short strong back, broad loins and well bent stifles. He gave his young handler a hard time but demonstrated sound free movement when settled. RBOB.

2nd Miss Parker-Stokes’ Aurora Moonlight, 13 month old cream bitch, not as mature in body as 1st place, she has a pretty feminine expression, low set ears, a straight front, developing chest and rib, she was handled well.

PG (3,1) 1st Mrs Bremner’s Alchemy Egoiste of Afterglow (Imp Nor) a 3 year old black dog, presented in continental trim with a coat of dense harsh texture. He is balanced in outline with a short strong back, well muscled thighs and a pleasing turn of stifle. 2nd Miss Parker-Stokes’ Willowood Happy Ever After, a 3 year old black bitch also presented in continental trim, she has fine well chiselled cheeks, a well defined chin and dark eyes with a feminine expression. Similar attributes to 1st place, but not quite the depth and width of chest or turn of stifle.

O (4,1) 1st Mrs Pine-Hayes & Mrs Harris’ Vicmar Press Play, a 19 month old black bitch and what a beautiful picture she presents. Her coat is in excellent condition, her profile is so well balanced and elegant, and her feminine headpiece was carried high at all times. She was a delight to go over and did not disappoint in any area, well muscled with a broad deep chest and ribs well sprung. Her back was short and strong, with her tail held high and she moved proudly and soundly with plenty of drive. Very well handled and at one with her handler, I was pleased to award her BOB, and delighted when she then went on to take UG1 and later BIS.

2nd Mr Bedwell’s Vicmar Smart Fella, at 7 years old this black male did not give anything away with his age, and was presented in good condition in a short trim. He has dark eyes and a gentle kind expression, flat cheeks, a well defined chin and tight lips. His front is straight, he has good reach of neck and a proud carriage. I would prefer a shorter back to balance his outline, however he moved well in all directions.

POODLE (TOY)

J (1,0) 1st Mrs Moss’ Afterglow Kaptain Krunch at Carianjo, a 13 month old black dog I had the pleasure of placing in a Utility Puppy Group earlier in the year and it was lovely to be able to go over him again. He was slightly nervous on the table last time, and I was pleased to see he has grown in confidence, clearly down to the fabulous rapport he has with his young handler. He is well balanced in profile, presented in excellent condition and his movement is sound and free flowing. I love his size, and everything is in proportion. He has a spirited glint in his dark eyes, well defined chin and good earset. His head is carried proudly, he has good length of neck and a short strong back, well bent stifles and a high set tail. He stood alone but was more than worthy of his BOB
