Coventry Ladies Kennel Society

Breed: Poodle (Miniature)

Coventry Ladies Kennel Society Open Show 1st January 2024

Thank you to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at your very well organised and enjoyable show. My two ring stewards Donald Young and Rachael Gomez were wonderful, thank you both. And finally, thank you to everyone who brought their dogs under me on the day, and for accepting my placings with good sportsmanship, it was encouraging to be able to go over so many lovely poodles.

Boston Terriers

Open 1st Mr & Mrs Guy’s Wynele Trooping the Colour - 7 year old brindle dog with a square masculine head and dark round eyes placed correctly and with a kind, alert expression. He has a broad square jaw, a wide deep muzzle and well defined stop. His correctly placed ears were used to advantage, and he has lovely dark pigment. His slightly arched neck leads down to well placed shoulders, a straight front, tight pasterns and neat feet. He has good width of chest and well sprung ribs, strong thighs and a short tail. He maintained his topline on the move and was very well handled. He stood alone however I was more than happy to award him BOB

Poodle (Miniature)

Puppy (4,0) 1st Kitchener’s Michandy Sign of The Times – 7 month old brown bitch, who presented an elegant outline and appeared full of confidence in the ring. She has a pretty head with dark eyes giving her a lovely expression, good dentition and a low earset, with leathers of good length. She has a balanced outline, with a strong neck, developing chest and rib, and a short strong back. Her front is straight, she has small oval feet and a good turn of stifle. Her tail is high set and completes the picture. She gave her handler a hard time when first moved, but soon settled down to demonstrate sound movement in all directions. She stood out in the line up for size and type, and was awarded BOB and BP accordingly.

2nd Mr & Mrs Lee-Morris’ Michandy It’s Showtime at Pupstar, a 7 month old black dog, he is litter brother to 1st place, with the same qualities of his sister, just not as confident on the day. His head is in proportion to his body and he has attentive dark eyes with a delightful masculine intelligent expression. His outline is balanced for his age and he moved with purpose round the ring. I look forward to watching him mature.

Post Graduate (8,2) 1st Miss Collier’s Michandy Love of the Game, a black bitch approaching 2 years old, presented with a full harsh textured coat. She has a beautiful head and expression, dark almond shaped eyes, flat cheekbones and leathers of good width and length. Her nicely arched neck fits well into her laid back shoulders, and has the strength to carry her head high, giving her a balanced, elegant outline. Her front is straight, with good width, she has well sprung ribs and a short strong back, muscular thighs and high set tail. She was handled extremely well and moved with plenty of drive. RBOB and I was informed later, winner of the Utility RBOB competition.

2nd Mrs Farndon’s Maldavale Fizztastic Von Amenria a stylish black bitch just out of puppy, she was presented in excellent trim, and was a pleasure to go over on the table. She has a pretty feminine head with flat cheeks and tight fitting lips, appealing dark eyes and low set ears. She presents a balanced outline with developing chest and rib, a strong back and pleasing turn of stifle. I preferred the tailset and front on 1st place today.

Open (5,2) 1st Mr & Mrs Lee-Morris’ Michandy Back in Time at Pupstar, a 4 year old black male presented in excellent trim with a dense harsh textured coat. He has a striking balanced outline, up to size with a strong neck, well placed shoulders, a pleasing depth of chest and spring of rib, and strong muscular thighs. His head is held high, and has a masculine expression, with dark eyes, flat cheeks and a strong chiselled foreface. His movement was free flowing with plenty of drive.

2nd Miss Plunkett’s Kenaiteen Caught Up, a 5 year old black bitch expertly presented by her smartly dressed junior handler. She has a harsh textured dense coat and lovely dark pigment, a pretty head and a strong topline. She was nervous on the table but relaxed on the floor and moved out well

Poodle (Standard)

Puppy (4,1) 1st Mrs Preston’s Duanalbanach Mellow Yellow to Brooksbeauty, an 11 month old black bitch with a long fine headset, dark eyes with an alert expression, low ear set and good length of leathers. She has good shoulder placement, a straight front and developing rib and chest. Her tail is carried high and she has good rear angulation. She moved well when settled. BP and also awarded UPG2 later in the day

2nd Mrs Jones’ Royaldeniz Springintheair, an 8 month old white dog presented in excellent condition. He has a developing head, with good pigment and a playful glint in his eye. Still very much a puppy, he has a straight front, and developing spring of rib and depth of chest. His back is short and strong, however his movement was very hard to assess today.

Post Graduate (4,2) 1st Miss Aylmer’s Back to the Fushia, 14 month old apricot male I last judged in puppy, and it was lovely to see how he is maturing. He has a strong masculine expression with dark eye and black points, good dentition and chin, and low set wide leathers of good length. He has a pleasing outline, with a developing front, neat feet, strong back and good width of thigh. His rear angulation has improved, and he moved and was handled well, RBOB

2nd Mrs Graveney’s Villanders Luxury Lover, 20 month old black dog, with a pleasing head and dark eyes, a good length of neck, and dense coat. Not quite the balanced outline of 1st place, I would prefer more width at front and a slightly shorter back. He was handled well and moved with drive.

Open (3,1) 1st Mrs McLoughlin’s Villanders Lemona Woman of Zantescwtch JW, very pretty 20 month old black bitch with a long fine head, flat cheekbones, strong foreface and beautiful dark eyes giving her a lovely feminine expression. Nicely balanced in outline, she has good length of neck, width and depth to her chest, a straight front with strong pasterns and neat feet. She has a pleasing spring of rib, short back, broad loins and a good turn of stifle. She looked elegant and maintained her topline on the move, BOB and later awarded UG2.

2nd Mrs Preston’s Volgarus Be My Guest at Brooksbeauty, 18 month old black bitch, presenting an elegant upright outline, with similar attributes to 1st place. She was well presented with a dense harsh texture to her coat, plenty of rear angulation and hocks well let down. Movement was a bit untidy

Poodle (Toy)

Puppy (2,0) 1st Miss Bradley’s Montelle Talk of Magic, a beautiful 8 month old black bitch, full of ring presence, and a delight to go over. She has a nicely balanced elegant outline, a feminine head with a glint of naughtiness in her dark eyes, a strong jaw and good dentition. Her length of neck compliments her outline, leading to developing chest and rib, set into well laid back shoulders. She has a short back, and good rear angulation. Her movement was sound, and I was pleased to award her BP

2nd Mrs Howard’s Alihow Aretha Franklin, at just 6 months old this apricot bitch was also a pleasure to go over. Very much a baby, she has a pretty feminine head, low set ears of good size and a sparkle in her eye. Developing in all areas, she has a straight front and neat feet, and good rear angulation.

Post Graduate (1,0) 1st Mrs Howard’s Denroma Roses are Red, a 2 year old red bitch who was well presented with a compact balanced outline, well proportioned neck, and pretty feminine headset. She has a good spring of rib and short strong back, tail could be higher. Her movement was free flowing with drive, I was pleased to award her BOB on maturity and sound movement
