Ilfracombe & District Canine Society Open Show 10th February 2024

Utility

Thank you to the Officers and Committee of the canine society for inviting me to judge, it was one of the most pleasurable appointments I have attended, I was made to feel most welcome and your hospitality was second to none. Thank you to my helpful ring steward Alison, and to all the exhibitors who bought their wonderful dogs under me.

POODLE (MINIATURE)

PG (1,0) 1st Hosking’s Tarquas Wot An Entrance, a 2 year old brown bitch with a pleasing head and feminine expression. She has a straight front with good depth of chest, a short back and high placed tail. I would prefer more rear angulation, she moved ok.

OPEN (3,0) 1ST Sarson & Sarson’s Arrowflight High Society at Dongara, a delightful black bitch with a full dense coat who was very well presented. She has dark well placed eyes with a glint of naughtiness, a well defined chin and overall head size in proportion to her body. A straight front, tight feet, good width and depth of chest and a strong back created a balanced outline, she moved very well and I was pleased to award her BOB.

2nd Hosking & Rose’s Tarquas Box of Tricks, another pretty black bitch with expressive dark eyes, she has a profuse coat with a harsh texture. She has good rear angulation and a small high set tail, good length of rib and depth of chest. She also had good movement, although not quite the balanced outline of 1st place.

POODLE (STANDARD)

PG (6,4) 1ST O’Higgins & Knudtzen’s Catwalk Private Dancer at Sarnia (Imp Nor) an 8 month old black dog who was a delight to go over. He has an upright well balanced outline, and holds his head high, maintaining his proud carriage at all times. He has a long fine head and dark expressive eyes, good length of leathers that are set low, and a strong jawline. His pleasing length of neck flows into well laid back shoulders. He has developing depth and width of chest, a strong back and high set tail. He was high spirited when he set off but soon settled to show sound free flowing movement, it was a pleasure to award him BP, BOB and UPG4.

2nd Taylor’s Geblumt Exotische Blume, a well presented 4 year old black bitch, with a course texture to her coat. She has a feminine headpiece, good length of leathers and dark eyes. Her front is straight and leads down to strong pasterns and neat tight feet. She has good length of rib and rear angulation. Not quite the flowing movement of 1st place.

OPEN (3,1) 1ST Taylor’s Novatell Schone Blume, a 7 year old white bitch with a long fine head, dark intelligent eyes and pigment and a strong well chiselled foreface. She has an elegant outline, with a straight front and good width and depth of chest, and well sprung ribs. Her back is strong with a good tailset. She moved well, giving no indication of her veteran status.

2nd Cummins’ Willowmiens Dramatic Afair, a 3 year old blue bitch with a coat of good texture, she presented with a good straight front, good spring of rib and high tailset. She was a bit sluggish on the move and did not want to show herself off today.

DALMATIAN

PG (4,1) 1ST Edens’ Steyndal Diamond White at Dalens JW, a 2 year old bitch and so feminine in appearance. Elegant with clean lines throughout her balanced profile. Her well proportioned head tops a long nicely arched neck, and leads into well defined withers, and shoulders with excellent layback. Her straight front and good depth of chest flow back to a moderate tuck up, and her topline is firm and level. A good turn of stifle with well muscled thighs and correct tailset complete the picture. She was handled extremely well and won BOB with her smooth powerful movement.

2nd Walder’s Jasquarella Lady in Red, another feminine 2 year old bitch who was a delight to go over. She has a lovely headshape, correct for size and balance, a good arch to her neck, powerful shoulders and a straight front. Her topline is level and she has a strong loin, muscular thighs and her hocks are well defined. She challenged hard for 1st place, just not quite the same smooth movement on the day.

OPEN (3,1) 1ST Williamson’s Decoda’s Toffee Apple, another 2 year old bitch with an outgoing temperament, she also has an elegant balanced outline. She has a feminine expression on her well proportioned head, with a powerful muzzle and clean lips, well set eyes and a broad smooth skull. Her neck is nicely arched and leads down to well laid back shoulders, good depth of chest, with well sprung ribs and a level topline. She moved and was handled well.

2nd England’s Queen Of The Seas at Silverspot Shcex,, a 3 year old bitch with similar attributes to 1st place. She is slightly longer cast, but still presents a pleasing outline, with a beautiful feminine head and dark expressive eyes. She has a straight front with good angulation front and rear, and was well handled.

TIBETAN TERRIER

PG (2,0) 1ST Rutley’s Araki Not On Your Nelly at Javey JW, at just under 2 years old this black and white bitch presents a lovely square outline and is in full coat. She has dark round expressive eyes, a strong muzzle and feathered highset ears. Her strong neck leads down to well placed shoulders, she has a straight front, good depth of chest and length of rib. Her level topline and short loin, with well muscled hindquarters gave her plenty of drive. She has a balanced outline and high set tail carried over her back. Her movement was smooth and flowing, and I was pleased to award her BOB.

2nd McCawley’s Tiamastae’s Snow Bird, at 5 years old this white and black bitch is well presented, with a delightful feminine expression on her well furnished head. She has dark round eyes and excellent pigment, a strong muzzle and highset ears. Her front is straight and her feet stand well down, she has good depth of chest and a level topline. She is longer cast than 1st place, and moved and was handled well.

OPEN (4,2) 1ST McCawley’s Tiamastae’s Pretty In Pink, 4 years old and another black and white bitch with a delightful expression. She presented a square balanced outline, with a strong neck, well laid shoulders and a straight front. Her level topline and highset tail curled over her back. She was not in full coat today, but moved well

2nd Harrison’s Boshay Kaliko Jack JW, a 15 month old black and white dog, up to size, with a full coat and lively outgoing temperament. He has a strong muzzle, good dentition, dark expressive eyes and his head is well furnished. He has a pleasing front assembly and good depth of brisket, a level topline and short loin. His movement was powerful and effortless.

JAPANESE SPITZ

OPEN (5,1) 1ST Eden’s Snowshoes Hex Girl at Dalens JW, a 2 year old bitch who presents an appealing and balanced outline in a well maintained full coat. She has an alert expression on her feminine well proportioned head, atop a strong arched neck and well placed shoulders. Her front is straight, with slightly sloping pasterns and neat cat like feet. Her short back is covered by her high set well plumed tail, and her muscular hindquarters aided her nimble smooth movement. BOB

2nd Smith & Smith’s Snowshoes Joyful Sunstone, at 6 months old this male puppy was a delight to go over. He was very alert and lively, and made his handler work hard, as all puppies should! He has a fabulous headset with black points and well set pointed ears, a developing chest and rib, neat feet and good width of thigh. His movement was smooth and light, PB

MINIATURE SCHNAUZER

OPEN (1,0) 1ST Woods & Price’s Penbro Fool Me Once, a 10 month old pepper and salt bitch with a harsh coat on her nicely balanced square frame. She has a keen alert expression on her feminine head, which is nicely in proportion to her body. She has dark eyes with prominent eyebrows, high set ears and good length of muzzle. Her neck is strong with a slight arch, leading into well placed shoulders, a straight front and developing chest and rib. She has a strong back with a high set tail, and she moved well, maintaining her topline. Very well presented and handled, I was pleased to award her BOB and BP, UG3 and UPG1 and was delighted to see her awarded RBPIS later in the day.

SCHNAUZER

PG (1,0) 1ST Moore’s Odivane Brother In Arms, a 9 month old pepper and salt dog with a harsh jacket, and strong masculine features. He has a good headshape, dark eyes and well placed ears. His front, chest and rib are all developing well, his neck is of good length and his back is strong. He moved well, BP

OPEN (1,0) 1ST Moore’s Ch Odivane A Sharp Dressed Man, a sturdily build 2 year old dog with a harsh wiry coat and an alert demeanour. He presented a nicely balanced profile, with a good length of neck, well placed shoulders and a deep chest. His movement was free flowing, with plenty of drive. BOB

CHOW CHOW

PG (5,0) 1ST Coleman & Evan’s Abaluki Bring Me Sunshine, 15 month old red bitch with a delightful feminine expression. She has a broad muzzle and plenty of fill under her dark eyes, a pleasing earset, and solid black mouth. She was well presented in full coat with a square outline and short level back, powerful loins and hocks well let down. She was up on her small feet and she moved and was handled very well, I was pleased to award her BOB

2nd Cummins’ Kweichow Spencer at Dragonsway, a 2 year old red dog, slightly out of coat but still presenting a pleasing outline. He has a strong masculine head, dark eyes and good depth and width of muzzle, however I preferred the earset of 1st place. He has a straight front and is well off for bone. His broad deep chest and short back with powerful loins completed the picture. He also moved well

OPEN (7,5) 1ST Cummins’ Ch Dragonsway Tom Thumb, at 8 years old this lovely red dog was presented in excellent condition. He has an open face with dark eyes and pigment, well set ears and a strong full neck leading down to well placed shoulders and a straight front. His back is short and strong with a high set tail. He was very attentive to his handler and his movement was ok.

2nd Palmer’s Torrichows Seasons Delights, I was unable to assess this dog in either class as he was not happy for me to go over him. He moved ok when settled.

SHAR PEI

OPEN (2,1) 1ST Bragg & Bragg’s Ch Ch Loopang’s Back In Business, a 2 year old bitch with a beautiful headset, in proportion to her body, moderately wrinkled, a full muzzle and dark eyes. She has a balanced outline, strong in pasterns and hindquarters, and excellent muscle tone. Totally devoted to her handler, she had free effortless movement, was pleased to award her BOB and UG4

EURASIER

OPEN (1,0) 1ST George’s Albionspitz Diphda, a 6 year old fawn bitch with a typical wedge shaped head and tapering muzzle. She has dark eyes and correct earset, giving her an alert feminine expression. She is well constructed with a nicely balanced outline. Her back is strong and she has good angulation front and rear. Not in full coat today, but moved well maintaining her level topline. BOB

LHASA APSO

PG (2,1) 1ST Barnett & Carter’s Skylax Best Part of Me into Alamiks, a 13 month old gold and white bitch, very well presented, with a beautiful full, well groomed coat. Her dark eyes, black nose and heavily feathered ears give her a pretty feminine appearance. Her neck is nicely arched and leads down to good shoulder placement. She has a straight front, developing rib and chest, level topline and good angulation. I really liked her for size and balance, she had a fluid flowing movement which was a pleasure to watch. I was more than happy to award her BOB and UG1

OPEN (1,0) 1ST Barnett & Carter’s Alamiks Perfect Illusion, another delightful Lhasa bitch, 2 years old with her full golden coat presented in excellent condition. She has a pretty head, pleasing spring of rib and level topline, and a well set tail which all came together to present a lovely outline. Lost out in the line up to her kennel mate, who had slightly more showmanship on the day.

A.V.N.S.C UTILITY

PG (2,0) 1ST Heyes and Heyes’ Dr Wolf Go And Smash It at Chillipaws, an 8 month old Akita dog with an appealing black overlay on his red and white coat. His head is strong and masculine, with clear dark eyes and neat well placed ears. He has a developing front, chest and spring of rib, and good width of thigh with hocks well let down. He demonstrated powerful movement, maintaining his topline. BP

2nd Casey’s Kev Casey for Shamal, Boston Terrier dog of 21 months, smooth coated with clear markings, he has masculine features and is well off for muzzle length and depth. His dark round eyes are expressive, however he did not want to use his ears today. He has good depth of chest and spring of rib, a level topline and a pleasing length of tail.

OPEN (2,0) 1ST Trevett & Trevett’s Sarkay Richochet, a 10 year old Boston Terrier and what a distinguished gentleman he is, with just a touch of grey the only give away to his age. He has a square skull with dark round eyes, a short, wide and deep muzzle and correct ear placement. His straight front, good depth of chest and spring of rib gave him a nicely balanced outline, along with a level topline which he maintained on the move. He was totally at one with his handler, and such a showman, I was delighted to award him BOB

2nd Elson’s Stoneside Bryan Ferry at Jomarnelli, a 3 year old Toy Poodle. His head is of good length and width, with flat cheekbones and dark eyes, and his leathers are long and set low. He has a lovely straight front and neat feet, good depth of chest and a short back, with good rear angulation. His movement was ok

A.V UTILITY

SY (5,2) 1ST Marshall & Marshall’s Devonia’s Hakuna Matata, a 10 month old Keeshond bitch who was well presented, nicely marked and with a harsh dense coat. She has dark eyes with an intelligent expression, and small dark ears on her well proportioned head. Her neck is arched and flows down into well set shoulders. She has a straight front, developing chest and rib, and good tail placement. Her movement was brisk when she settled.

Veteran (15,7) 1st Marshall & Marshall’s Torrikees Made in Heaven at Devonia, a 7 year old Keeshond bitch with a lovely balanced headset. She has a pretty, feminine expression and a confident demeanour. She presented a balanced compact outline when stacked, and was very attentive to her handler, which is always lovely to see. She moved freely round the ring, maintaining topline and tailset.

2nd Quest & Quest’s Lilileian Louis Vuitton JW Sh.cm Shcex, a 7 year old male with a full, well presented gold and sable coat. He has a blunt cushioned muzzle, dark expressive eyes, well feathered ears and a nicely balanced outline. His movement was free and confident, maintaining his topline and high tailset.

1ST Bartnett & Carter’s Skylax Best Part of Me at Alamiks, Lhasa Apso, see 1st PG

2nd Clover’s Chenrezi No Ordinary Love, Tibetan Spaniel. I was totally smitten by this 5 year old’s expressive dark eyes, he has a beautiful headset, with a blunt, medium length, well cushioned muzzle and black pigment. His well feathered ears are set high with a slight lift. He has a balanced outline and good angulation, and was presented in excellent condition with a full gold sable coat. He moved well in all directions, maintaining his high tail set, and was very well handled.

2nd Smith’s Densown Pedro, Shih Tzu, an 8 month old black and white coated male, with a broad, round head, and plenty of width between his dark eyes. He has an alert masculine expression, and good pigment. His frame is balanced and sturdy, with developing chest and rib, and his heavily plumed tail carried well over his back. His movement was smooth, showing full pads at the rear.

3rd French, French & French’s Bincombefarm Morsmordre, French Bulldog, a well marked brindle of 8 months old, he is up to size, with ample bone and substance. He has a strong masculine head, with good depth and width to muzzle, and a pleasing layback. He has a gentle roach over his loin, developing chest and spring of rib, and good angulation. He moved well in all directions and was very well handled.

AV OPEN STAKES

1ST Smith & Smith’s Ch Snowshoes Who Dares Wins Shcex, Alaskan Malamute. A stunning 4 year old dog who stood out in this large class of beautiful dogs. He has a very appealing expression on his broad, powerful head. An intelligent glint in his dark eyes, excellent pigment on lips and nose, and small triangular ears he used to advantage. His profile is balanced with no trace of coarseness, with a strong neck leading down to well placed shoulders. He has a straight front, and is very well off for bone, has tight pasterns and a deep chest. His thighs and loin are well muscled, and his large well arched feet aided his easy rhythmic movement. He was well presented in full coat and displayed an affectionate friendly temperament, he won me over immediately and was such a pleasure to go over.

2nd Membury, Membury & Pearce’s Ch Bullhawk Egg’s Citing at Membully, French Bulldog. A 21 month old well marked brindle bitch, she has a pleasing balanced outline, with no hint of exaggeration. She has a feminine expression, depth and width to her muzzle, good layback and correct earset. She has depth of chest and a good spring of rib, moderate angulation and a gentle roach over her loin. She moved and was handled extremely well
