Dukeries [Notts] Gundog Club

Judge's Critique for breeds judged at Dukeries (Notts) Gundog Club on Saturday 20th July 2024

Thanks to Jenny and her hard working committee for the kind invitation to judge at their show held at The Oakridge Arena, a super venue on a warm, sunny morning.

Sadly my entry was depleted by absentees.

English Springer Spaniel

Post Graduate (1) 1. and Best of Breed Rose' Plaiglen Raggtrade, 4 year old liver and white bitch which showed and handled well. Carrying plenty of body and shown in good coat. Kind expressive eyes. She moved with drive using her quarters well.

Welsh Springer Spaniel

Junior (1) 1.Wallington's Ferndel Renzo at Rovinjdal, very smart young dog shown in gleaming coat of correct texture and in good condition overall. Typical head and kind, dark eyes.He is well made and his construction pleased. Uses himself well on the move, covering the ground with ease.Reserve Best of Breed.

Open (1) 1.Stevenson's Mymmsbrook Matador with Blythway JW. A very worthy Best of Breed winner. So soundly constructed and shown in tip top condition, well muscled quarters enabling powerful driving action around the ring. Strong, well ribbed body;well proportioned throughout with a pleasing well-balanced head. Well boned limbs. There was no doubt this dog could do a day's work; I was later told that he is worked and is great in the field. He made my journey worthwhile!
