Australian Shepherd Dogs

P (4,1) A nice class to start the day with 3 promising puppies. All had their qualities, and it will be interesting to see who they all develop. 1st Wilson & Gibbons’ Wispafetes Give Us A Twirl, this 7-month-old red tri bitch won this class on her super shape and overall balance. She has a nice head with a flat skull with well set eyes and ears, but I’d prefer a stronger muzzle. Has a super neck, well laid-back shoulder with good return of upper arm of equal length. Her chest is deep, and she has a good topline and strong loin with excellent hind angulation. Very sound and balanced on the move.

2nd Cowley’s Sparkaway Ladies Man, 8-month-old jet black tri male who’s coat gleamed. His head is lovely, yet masculine, with a good width of skull, strong muzzle and super eye. Good neck and well laid shoulder with a super topline and strong hindquarter. On the day, I preferred the front angulation and overall balance of the winner.

3rd Roberts’ Under The Polar Star Du Reve Austral Dreamtale (Imp Fra).

J (4,1) 1st Davis & Walsh’s Rosschell Maid You Look, my notes start with ‘lovely’ and she simply is just that! Another black tri in super, jet-black coat, 9-month-old. Lovely head with a flat skull of good width, clean stop, strong muzzle and good underjaw. Lovely eye of good size and shape, set correctly and ears of good size which all combined to give an alert and feminine expression. Neck of good length flows into well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm with super bone and feet. Good depth of chest with a good spring of rib, short loin and level topline. Super hind angulation to match her front, with good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Moved very well, with reach and drive, covering the ground with ease. Excellently presented and handled. Delighted to award her Best Puppy and Best of Breed and was thrilled to learn later that she had not only won the Puppy Group but also the Pastoral Group, many congratulations. I shall watch her career with interest.

2nd Wilson & Gibbons’ Wispafetes Give Us A Twirl,

3rd Land & Gittins’ Soloyal Kiss Artist Around Casmawllan.

PG (5,1) 1st Harvey’s Gemthorne Its a Hotspell, this 2-year-old red tri is all male, with his masculine head and strong bone. Square skull with strong muzzle and underjaw, eye set correctly but is a touch rounder than I’d prefer. Super front and hind angulation, which enabled him to move steadily with ease. Good depth of chest, spring of rib and short loin. Well presented.

2nd Harvey’s Gemthorne Swirling Snow, blue merle litter sister to the winner with many of his qualities. Head has to be handled to be appreciated as her white markings can fool the eye, but she has a well filled, strong muzzle and balanced skull. Excellent angulation front and rear but not as good in topline as her brother.

3rd Hunt’s Shepwood Grey Knight.

O (7,4) Lovely class headed by 2 bitches quite different in type, but each had their own set of merits and qualities 1st Roberts’ Ch Magical Love Elvikam JW, OSW (Imp Pol), I’ve always admired this 6-year-old red tri bitch and found her quite lovely to go over. Super outline and substance, although I wouldn’t want her any bigger. Lovely head with a square skull, super eye, well set eats, well filled foreface and good underjaw. Lovely neck, well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, good depth of chest, strong loin and level topline, super hind angulation in balance with her front and short hocks. She really shone on the move with plenty of reach and drive, powering effortlessly around the ring. Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Gibbons & Satherley’s Ch Wispafete Belongs To Music JW, 3-year-old blue merle who I’ve seen many times but had to be gone over to be fully appreciated. Smaller in type but has everything in the right place with a super front and rear which allowed her to move beautifully. Feminine, well-balanced head with a good skull and strong muzzle. I preferred the eye of the winner, and I’d prefer a touch more length of leg.

3rd Hutchcroft’s Allmark One Of These Days.

Shetland Sheepdogs

P (6,3) 3 lovely puppies in this class. 1st Hateley’s Mohnesee’s Meliya, very pretty 8-month-old tri bitch. Lovely, clean head with a flat skull, clean stop, super eye and well-set ears which gives a sweet expression. Lovely length of neck and back, which was level, with good depth of chest and well sprung rib. Good bone and feet. Good angulation front and rear which allowed her to move effortlessly. Very well presented. Reserve Best of Breed, Best Puppy and later 3rd in the Puppy Group, many congratulations.

2nd Norris’ Ferngroves Skywalker, another 7-month-old promising pup, sable & white, with a lovely outline. Good head with a lovely muzzle and underjaw, well set eyes and ears, just needs to clean in stop. Super front and rear angulation with a good length of neck and back. Super temperament, moved well but not as positively as the winner.

3rd Norris’ Sabema Mayfly at Ferngrove.

J (3,1) 1st Walker’s Tooralie’s Mossyfox My Trinity, what a lovely outline on this 12-month-old tri bitch, so very elegant. Clean wedge head with well set ears and length of muzzle. Would have preferred a touch more fill of foreface. Super front and rear angulation with well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, and well bent stifle with short hocks. Good bone with neat feet, with a low set tail of good length. Moved steadily, with reach and drive.

2ndLee’s Castlerose in Spirit at Chalynwood, 12-month-old sable & white bitch with a nice outline. Well-rounded foreface and flat skull and clean stop. Nice eye and well-set ears, although a little light. Good angulation front and rear but didn’t keep her topline as well on the move.

Y (4,1) Interesting to note I judged both my 1st and 2nd place as puppies and placed them in the same order again today. 2 lovely youngsters with so much to like. 1st Norris’ Ferngrove’s Valentino JW, at nearly 2, this sable & white boy is all male. Good head with a flat skull, lovely eye set correctly, nicely moulded foreface and well-set ears. Enough neck with good front and rear angulation, good depth of chest and spring of rib.

2nd Hateley’s Mohnesee Maebelle JW. Pretty sable & white, again just short of 2-years-old with a clear head of correct shape, flat skull, clean stop, oblique eye of good size and shape and well-set ears. I would have preferred slightly more moulding of foreface. Super angulation front and rear with good length of neck, just preferred the overall outline of the winner.

3rd Robinson’s Dinmore Making Waves at Lavika.

PG (2,1) 1st Graham-Weall’s Just For Alex from Lavika, 2 and half year old blue dog in full coat. Nice head properties with well set ears, eyes well set but a touch rounder than I’d prefer. Good length of back and rear angulation. Would have preferred more length of leg and longer in stride.

L (1) 1st Deveson’s Milesend Sea Pearl, 7-year-old shaded sable & white in lovely coat and condition. Lovely shape with a good length of neck and back to give an elegant outline. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm and well angled rear. A little wide in back skull which also affected her ear set, well balanced skull and foreface with correct eye set. Effortless on the move, covering the ground with ease.

O (3,1) 1st Walker’s Tooralie’s Pie In The Sky, 4-year-old shaded sable & white in good coat of correct texture. Clean head with a flat skull, clean stop, balanced foreface and good underjaw. Excellent ear set and carriage with eyes of good size set obliquely. Very well constructed with a super outline, slightly longer than high with a level back and sweep over the croup to a low set tail. Super front and rear angulation, good bone and neat feet. Lovely to watch on the move, covering the ground with ease. Pleased to award Best of Breed, and I believe he was shortlisted in the group. Well done!

2nd Deveson’s Janetstown Je Suis JW, ShCM, 9-year-old sable & white bitch in lovely coat and condition. Balanced head with super ears and a nice eye. Well angled front and rear with a lovely neck and length of back. Would have preferred a bit more bone. Moved well.
