AV Veteran Stakes (39,25) Anyone who knows me knows I love showing veterans, so I was thrilled with such a great entry of oldies to choose from. I shortlisted 5, including the Flatcoat Retriever, Telurn Can’t Touch This Sgwc, and the Old English Sheepdog, Ch Holanja Go Wild JW. 1st Fenton’s Layoli Classic Forkandles, Tibetan Terrier, 9-year-old gold sable bitch in lovely coat and condition. Lovely head with skull and muzzle of equal length and large, dark brown eye giving an enquiring expression. She presented a lovely square outline with well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, level back with short loin and super hindquarters with a well bent stifles and short rear pasterns. Very balanced on the move with plenty of drive from the rear. 2nd Cowling’s Koczkodan Serenity, Smooth Collie, 8-year-old tricolour bitch who pushed 1st hard. Lovely head with flat skull and muzzle of equal length, dark, almond eye set obliquely with ears set correctly giving a sweet expression. Lovely outline with a well arched neck, good length of back and gentle rise over the loin. Her shoulder is well laid back with excellent length and return of upper arm. Her chest is deep and ribs well sprung. Excellent rear angulation and short rear pasterns. Covered the ground with ease. 3rd Osbourne’s Petranella Exclusive with Braego, Spaniel (English Springer).

Australian Shepherd

Puppy (4) A lovely class with 4 promising puppies who are all developing at different speeds. It will be interesting to see them all in another 12 months or so. 1st Davis & Walsh’s Rosschell Maid Out of the Blue, a 9-month-old blue bitch who I have seen and admired from the ringside. She has a super head with a flat square skull, good shape eye set correctly, strong muzzle of good proportions and well-set ears. Good outline with a level topline and good depth of chest. Well laid-back shoulder but I’d prefer just a touch more return of upper arm. Super hind quarters with good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns, good bone front and rear and neat feet. Lovely on the move, keeping her topline. Best Puppy. 2nd Fedina’s Birkcross Wizard, at just 6-month-old this black tri dog has lots of promise. His outline particularly appeals, he is balanced with a good neck and good depth of chest with the corrent length of leg. Well angled front and rear he has good bone. His head needs time to develop but he has a super eye and well-set ears. He is balanced on the move but is a bit loose coming and going (just needs time and co-ordination). 3rd Harris’ Acotar Suriel Via Draconis at Teldrassil (Imp Cze)

Special Yearling (3) 1st Wilson & Gibbons’ Wispafetes Give Us a Twirl, 18-month-old red tri who I judged as a puppy, liked her then and liked her today. She still needs to fully mature in head, but her skull has broadened nicely, just needs to fill out a bit more in muzzle, which is of equal length to her skull. She has a lovely eye and well-set ears giving an alert expression. Lovely outline with good neck, super angulation front and rear, good depth chest and level topline, good bone with neat feet. So very balanced on the move with plenty of reach and drive. 2nd Wilson & Gibbons’ Wispafetes Causing a Ripple, a black tri litter sister to the winner, sharing many of the same qualities. She has a super outline with excellent angulation front and rear with a lovely length of neck however, she is slightly longer in head than winner and I preferred her sister’s feet.

Limit (3) 1st Harris’ Milwyr Jubilee Convert, 2-year-old black tri of finer build and moderate throughout. Very pretty with a square skull and muzzle of good length, lovely dark eye of correct shape and set, well set ears giving an alert yet feminine expression. She has a good neck with moderate and balanced angles front and rear. She is a touch long and I would prefer a stronger topline, but she is sound coming and going and balanced in side profile. Lacking in coat at the moment, but what she has is of good texture. 2nd Wilson & Gibbons’ Wispafetes Chasing the Ace at Ozways (AI) nearly 3-year-old black tri dog of heavier build with a wealth of coat of harsh texture. Super square skull with strong muzzle of good length and a super eye. I’d prefer slightly higher set ears, and he is also a touch long. Excellent depth of chest with well laid shoulder and super return of upper arm, and well angled behind which allowed him to move with balance and drive. A close decision between the first two. 3rd White’s Franmar Devils Desire at Joemariea.

Open (5,1) 1st Davis & Walsh’s Rosschell Maid You Look, and she certainly does. This 20-month-old black tri bitch is presented perfectly and has such a super outline, just slightly longer than high with a beautifully arched neck of good length. Her head is beautifully balanced with a square skull and strong muzzle of correct proportions. I love her eye, which is dark, almond shaped and set obliquely. Her ears are neat, I would prefer them a touch higher set, but this does not detract from her overall expression. She has a super front with well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm of equal length. Her chest is deep and well sprung with a strong, level back and short loin. Her croup has moderate slope into a well angled rear, in balance to her front with short rear pasterns. She has good bone and super feet. All this allows her to move with rear and drive, effortlessly covering the ground. A pleasure to award her Best of Breed, well done. 2nd Hutchcroft’s Allmark One of These Days, a 4-year-old black tri boy who was on great form today, just unlucky to meet the winner. He is a very balanced dog with nothing out of proportion. I love his head, which is masculine and balanced, with a kind eye and expression. He doesn’t have quite the arch of neck of the winner, but it is of good length and flows into a well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. His chest is deep and back is level with a well angled rear which enabled him to move easily. 3rd Wilson & Gibbons’ Wispafete Eternal Fire at Ozways.
