Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club Of Great Britain

Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain Open Show

5th May 2024

Thank you so much to the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to judge at their open show and for their hospitality on the day and to my steward, Patricia for keeping the ring in order. Lastly, thanks to the exhibitors for entering their lovely dogs under me, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. All of the dogs present today had correct rear dew claws.

VD: (2) 1st Reilly’s Ch/ Esp/ Swiss/ Ir/ Multi/ Int Ch Lisjovia Boris Bear at Darmaror JW ShCM ShCEx CW19, this 7-year-old has a super shape, elegant yet strong. His head is strong, with a well-shaped skull of good width and a powerful muzzle with a kind eye. His short neck flows into a well laid shoulder with super return of upper arm. Has a level back and super hind angulation which allows him to just power round the ring effortlessly. Pleased to award him Reserve Best Dog, Best Veteran Dog and Best Veteran in Show, thank you for bringing him. 2nd Cubello’s Night Owl, another 7-year-ol. I really liked the head on this boy, in proportion to the rest of him with a super eye and strong muzzle, although a bit lacking in pigmentation. A nice outline but he didn’t have the front of the winner.

PD: (1) 1st Bamford & Church’s Pafaxen High in The Sky, 11-month-old with a good outline. Promising head with a nicely curved skull, just needs to broaden a bit as he matures, but he has a lovely strong muzzle and good underjaw. Nice eye shape with close fitting lids, but I’d prefer a shade darker. Short neck and well sprung rib. Good angulation front and rear and good spring of front pasterns. Good bone and feet. Was sound and balanced on the moved. Best Puppy Dog and Reserve Best Puppy in Show.

JD: (1) 1st Bamford & Church’s Pafaxen High in The Sky, as before.

YD: (1) 1st Munson’s Travis Bear Pyrdanti for Pyrbern (Imp Fra), 21-month-old dog. Nice head with a strong skull of good width and the required curve from the front and side. Dark eye of correct shape with excellent pigmentation. On profile, presented a good outline with good length of leg and depth of chest. Well angulated front and rear and from the side, was balanced on the move. Moved well going but a bit loose on his pasterns coming toward me.

PGD: (2) 1st Munson’s Travis Bear Pyrdanti for Pyrbern (Imp Fra), 2nd Bamford & Church’s Pafaxen High in The Sky, both as before.

LD: (2,1) 1st Dearman & Henson’s Lisjovia Eternal Guardian for Pyrekees, 3-year-old male. Nice head although I would have preferred more width of skull. Strong muzzle, close fitting lips and good pigmentation. Eye of good shape set obliquely and well-set ears of correct size. Good outline with good front angulation and good front pasterns. Moved well going away and coming back, but a bit short in stride going around.

OD: (3,1) 1st Kenyon’s Ch Charibere Simply The Sequel at Kaianna JW, 3-year-old male with a lot to like about him and in great condition. A super, balanced head of with a skull of correct width and shape tapering to a strong muzzle and a gentle furrow between his eyes. He has a lovely dark almond shaped eye set correctly with close fitting rims, close fitting lips and excellent pigmentation. This all gives a kind and dignified expression. He is very well balanced throughout with a strong, short neck, well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm, strong bone, flexible pasterns and feet of good size with arched toes. His back is strong and level with a deep chest and well sprung rib, with good length of leg and strong loin. Hind quarters are well angulated with moderate bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Tail is well set and carried well on the move. He moved steadily, was sound and balanced on the move. In super coat of good texture. Delighted to award him Best Dog and Best in Show. Thank you for bringing him. 2nd Carter’s Jumicar Just an Illusion, 4-year-old dog of a more powerful build. He presents a super outline but didn’t have quite the angulation front and rear of the winner. Powerful head with excellent width and shape of skull and a powerful muzzle but a definite stop. Good eye and excellent pigmentation, but I would have preferred tighter fitting lips. I loved his head markings, very striking. Moved soundly.

VB: (3,2) 1st Flounders Ch Sketrick Papagena at Lakamoni (AI), 7-year-old bitch with lots to like. Feminine head of good shape and proportions with a lovely eye and expression. Good muzzle and pigmentation. Good outline with a short neck and level back. Super angulation from and rear, good bone and good feet. Moved well but couldn’t match the male in the overall challenge for Best Veteran. A worthy Reserve Best Veteran in Show.

PB: (1) 1st Bamford & Church’s Pafaxen A Millions Dreams, 11 month-old sister to the Puppy Dog winner. Balanced head with a skull of good width and muzzle of good length. Super, dark eye set correctly with small ears. Good eye rims and close-fitting lips. Short neck with a level back, although I’d prefer a touch more length of back. She has a deep chest and well sprung rib with a well laid-back shoulder and good return of upper arm, good bone and feet, and well angulated rear. Moved with ease. Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Show.

JB: (3,1) 1st Kenyon’s Charibere Reason to Dream at Kaianna. I really liked this 13-month-old bitch and considered her for Reserve Best Bitch. Really liked her head, she is very feminine with a super head and expression made up of a square skull with gentle curves front and side and muzzle of equal length. Her dark eye is of good shape set correctly and she has no obvious stop. Standing she is well balanced with good neck, length of back, depth of chest and length of leg. Well angulated front and rear with well set tail carried well on the move. At this stage, she’s just a bit upright in front pasterns but she moved beautifully. 2nd Bamford & Church’s Pafaxen A Millions Dreams, as above

YB: (2,1) 1st Kenyon’s Charibere Reason to Dream at Kaianna, as above.

UGB: (1) 1st Newland’s Shanlimore Baby Love, 5-year-old bitch who was carrying too much weight and so not very enthusiastic on the move. Nice head of good proportions with good width to skull and a lovely eye. Well laid-back shoulder but a bit steep in upper arm, yet her hind quarters are well angulated.

PGB: (3,1) 1st Bamford & Church’s Pafaxen A Millions Dreams, as above 2nd Newland’s Shanlimore Superstition, sister to the previous winner and was also rather unenthusiastic about the day. Good shape skull and powerful muzzle but a bit too deep in stop and I would prefer more underjaw. Short neck and well angulated front and rear with good depth of chest and good bone. Just a shame she lacked enthusiasm on the move.

LB: (5) 1st Carter’s Jumicar Moonstone, this 2-year-old bitch won this class on her movement. She’s a powerfully built girl and I wouldn’t want any more of her, but she’s balanced and well proportioned. Good sized head with a well-shaped skull and strong muzzle. Her eye is of correct shape and set and she has neat ears. Perhaps a tad deeper in stop than I’d prefer but has a nice expression. Standing she has a good, short neck which flows into a well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Super bone with straight legs and gently sloping pastern with good feet. Back is level with good depth of chest and strong, short loin and excellent hind angulation. Moved soundly and effortlessly. In good coat of correct texture. Pleased to award her Reserve Best Bitch. 2nd Flounder’s Kalkasi Just Imperial at Lakamoni, a 2 ½ year-old bitch of different type to the winner but a lot to like. Her head is lovely, very feminine with a super skull of excellent shape, lovely eye and strong muzzle, with good pigmentation. Super outline with a good neck and firm back of good length, good depth of chest and spring of rib. More moderate in angulation than the winner and good bone. A little loose on the pasterns coming towards me. 3rd Downes’ Belshanmish Ocean Soul, when I first saw this class, I thought this 2-year-old bitch would be my winner, there is so much to like about her. Lovely head and expression, super outline and well angulated front and rear. However, she moved very close behind and was loose on her pasterns coming towards me.

OB: (3) 1st Goodwin’s Ch Lisjovia White Lady avec Montmusique JW, loved this 3-year-old bitch, she’s so well balanced throughout. She is very feminine with a lovely wedge head, Skull of good width and shape with a strong, well-proportioned muzzle. She has a lovely almond eye set obliquely and neat ears and no apparent stop. Her outline is well balanced, with a good neck, good depth of chest and length of leg, good length of rib and short loin. Good angulation front and rear with short rear pasterns and good feet. Tail set correctly and carried well on the move. Very sound coming and going and covered the ground with ease. In good coat, well presented. Delighted to award her Best Bitch and Reserve Best in Show. Thank you for bringing her. 2nd Thorne’s Belshanmish New Sensation at Pyrajay JW, 3-year-old bitch of a taller build. Strong head with a lovely eye and good pigmentation, square skull of good shape tapering to a strong muzzle with good pigmentation. Well angulated front and rear but a touch shorter in back than the winner. Moved well. 3rd Carter’s Jumicar Sweet Lady Luck, a 4-year-old bitch of heavier build, strong head with good eye and well-rounded muzzle. Ears a little larger than I’d prefer and a touch deeper in stop. Well angulated front and rear but a touch shorter in leg than the other 2.
