Thank you to the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge at their well-run open show, and to stewards Sue and Di for keeping the ring running smoothly.

Whippet

PG: (4) 1st Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Chilli Cracker, 2-year-old brindle & white bitch who appealed for outline and movement, free of exaggeration. She has a lovely head with a flat skull with a slight stop and balanced muzzle. Alert eyes of correct shape and well-set ears. Lovely outline with a good length of neck and super return of upper arm and well angulated rear with correct length of second thigh. Good depth of chest and nice topline. Lovely on the move, so balanced with ground covering rear and plenty of drive. Delighted to award Best of Breed, and thrilled to watch her win the Hound Group later in the day, well done. 2nd Rainsbury’s Shalfleet Chasing The Sun, 2-year-old brindle & white dog and brother to the winner with a lot to like. A bit deeper in stop than his sister, but I did prefer his eye. Straight front legs, well laid shoulder but not quite the return of upper arm of the winner. Well balanced throughout with a good topline and good depth chest. Not quite the reach of his sister on the move 3rd Hills’ Simmeree Calico’s Cupid

O: (2,1) 1st Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Easter Sonnet JW slightly older 2-year-old brindle & white bitch from the same kennel. A nice outline, although I would prefer more depth chest. Good layback of shoulder and enough return of upper arm. Lovely neck of good length. Lovely head and super eye, flat skull, well set ears. Moved well. RBOB

Bearded Collie

J: (2) 1st Jones’ Clanwillow Crown and Glory, 14-month-old slate dog. Balanced throughout with a nice outline who scored on the move. Nice head with a square skull, good eye and strong muzzle with a good bite and underjaw. Good neck with a well angled front and rear, a level back, good spring rib. Balanced on the move with reach & drive 2nd Brown’s Highglade Reason to Believe, 16-month-old black & white dog. A bigger lad with good length of leg and overall proportions. Lovely head and eye, masculine with a square skull. I preferred the angulation as winner, but he has excellent spring rib and a short loin. Balanced on the move, but not quite the reach of the winner.

PG: (2,1) 1st Jones’ Clanwillow Crystal Bay, 17-month-old slate bitch. Finer in head and not the width skull of the previous class winner. Flat skull, lovely eye with a good length of muzzle. Nice outline, although I would prefer a touch more neck, good angulation front and rear, with a lovely length of tail. Good depth of chest and very feminine. Lovely on profile on the move but a little close behind.

O: (2) 1st Salmon’s Potterdale Heritage, 4-year-old black & white dog. One I have judged before, and I still love him. Super outline and presented to perfection. Great head with a square flat skull, muzzle of equal length, nice eye and good underjaw. He has a super front and excellent rear angulation. Good spring rib and depth of chest with a level topline which he kept on the move. He is so lovely on the move, covering the group with ease. Delighted to award him BOB and Group 1. 2nd Jones’ Esp Ch Clanwillow Amazing Grace JW, WW’22, 3-year-old black & white bitch with lots to like. Lovely head with a feminine expression. Square skull and muzzle in proportion although I would prefer a bit more stop. Super shape and outline, with well laid shoulder and return of upper arm with good chest and level topline with good rear angulation. Moved very well, just unlucky to meet the winner. RBOB

AV Imported Breed Register Pastoral

O: (1) 1st Dalby’s Sherry Amour L’Avocat De La Tour Avec Axernamoon (Imp FRA), Picardy Sheepdog, 2-half-year-old bitch who was lovely on the move showing good reach and drive, slightly longer than high, good depth chest. She has a clean head, with a flat skull, a slight stop and muzzle of equal length. Well set ears of good size, a moderate neck with good angulation front and rear. BOB

AVNSC Pastoral

J: (1) 1st Wallis Baga’s Velrok Este Ellerina (AI), Finnish Lapphund, 15-month-old black and tan bitch with a good outline. Super head with a domed skull, nice eye and ears giving an alert expression with a short strong muzzle. Well angulated front and rear with a good depth chest and level back. Good bone and feet. Balanced on the move.

PG:(1) 1st Johns’ Breezelyn Ears a Top Tip at Alepenkye, Hungarian Pumi, super outline on this 4-year-old grey bitch, nice and square. Clean, rectangular head with a short, strong muzzle and slightly domed skull and the slightest of stop with good pigment. Dark eye of good size with a mischievous expression and well-set ears. Shoulder is well laid back with a good length of upper arm. Short level back with a short loin, with rear angulation to match her front. Moved beautifully, short in stride and lively, balanced front and rear. Pleased to award BOB AVNSC and Group 2.

O: (5,3) 1st Pullen’s Meadowbears Master of Music, Old English Sheepdog, 5-year-old dog with the required square outline. Broad, square head with a medium stop, strong muzzle and correct eye. Neck of fair length, super front and rear angulation with well laid shoulder, good return of upper arm, well bent stifle and short hocks. Deep chest and short loin, in excellent coat of harsh texture. Balanced on the move. Pleased to award him RBOB AVNSC and Best of Reserve Best of Breed in Group. 2nd Johns’ Breezelyn Ears a Breakthrou for Alepenkye, Hungarian Pumi, 3-year-old grey bitch, another with the required square outline. Lovely head with super eye and well-set ears giving an alert expression. Compact body with good depth of chest, good front but I’d have preferred a touch more angulation in the rear.

AV Pastoral

P: (3,2) 1st Rutterford’s Myter Black Tarquin at Stormhead, Shetland Sheepdog, 7-month-old tricolour dog with a super jet-black coat. A lot to like about this boy, lovely shape and outline with a super head of good proportions, ears well set and tipped. Lovely eye set obliquely and a slight stop. Lovely on the move in profile, showing reach and drive but at this stage a tad close behind. With this he had to settle for PG2.

J: (8,4) 1st Jones’ Clanwillow Crown and Glory, Bearded Collie, as before. 2nd Walder’s Hanvale Patsy Stone, Rough Collie, 13-month-old sable bitch with lots to like. She has a lovely head, nice eye and good ears which combine to give a sweet expression. Super shape with super neck and length of back with deep chest. Well laid shoulder and return of upper arm and good rear angulation, good bone, and moved very well. A close decision between the 2, just preferred the reach of the winner here, but her qualities were enough to award her G3. 3rd Dalby’s Feels Like Heaven Amona Canis Among Axernamoon (Imp Cze)

PG: (2,1) 1st Jones’ Sianworth Rustic Flame for Keltiklan, Border Collie, 3-year-old sable and white bitch who stands out on the move as she is very balanced and covers ground well. However, I found her a touch lean and tall. Moderate in angulation but I’d prefer more bone & substance. Good feet. Lean head with a kind eye, flat skull & well-set ears but I’d prefer more stop. Super colour to see in this breed and a great temperament.

O: Lovely class (4) 1st Jerrett’s Coldelee Eternal Sunshine JW, Smooth Collie, 2-year-old sable bitch who is so unexaggerated, balanced and feminine, I really liked her. Clean head with a flat skull, lovely eye and well-set ears with a clean stop and good underjaw. Super neck, well angulated with a good topline and short hocks. Balanced on the move, showing reach and drive. 2nd Jones’ Esp Ch Clanwillow Amazing Grace JW, WW’22, Bearded Collie, as before. 3rd Wensley’s Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive JW.

AV Pastoral Veteran

Veteran (6,2) 1st Greening’s Kanamaren Hold On My Heart, Border Collie, 8-year-old black and white bitch with a lovely outline. Good head properties with a flat skull and muzzle of good size. Super eye and ears giving a kind but alert expression. Very well laid shoulder with excellent return of upper arm and excellent hindquarters which allowed her to move with the effortless reach and drive I was looking for. 2nd Benton’s Ch Brooklynson El Dorado ShCEx, Rough Collie, 7-year-old boy I’ve judged and liked before and there’s still a lot to like. Super outline with a good neck and lovely length of back. Correct head with a super eye giving a good expression. Sadly, today was a bit unsettled 3rd Hinchliffe’s Pretty Bear Beautiful Bill at Croftdale (Imp Deu), Bearded Collie.

AV Pastoral Reserve BOB

1st Pullen’s Meadowbears Master of Music, Old English Sheepdog

2nd Norris’ Ferngrove’s Skywalker, Shetland Sheepdog, 13-month-old sable dog. Lovely shape with a good length of arched neck and length of back, which was level, and good depth of chest. Nice head but I’d have preferred a slightly sweeter eye. Moved well.
