OKEHAMPTON & DISCTRICT CANINE SOCIETY SHOW – SATURDAY 4TH MAY 2024

I would like to thank the Society for inviting me to judge the Pastoral breeds and the Exhibitor’s for their lovely entry. I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Also thanks to the 2 Stewards who did a great job. I would also like to apologise for submitting a late show report, but I was taken ill on the way home from the show and it has been a slow recovery.

Swedish Vallhund Open 2 (1 absent) 1st & BOB Hackney’s Starvon All About me. 8 years old male. Good head and ear set. Adequate reach of neck. Good shoulder placement. Level top line. Moved well. In good condition.

Pyrenean Mountain Dog Post graduate and Open no entries.

Australian Shepherd Post graduate 5 (1 absent) 1st & Res BOB. Richards Accra Incendio Fire, red tri dog. Good balanced head, strong skull. Long neck. Top line good. A little narrow in chest but still young so time to develop. Good bone. Good hindquarters. Moved freely covering the ground well. 2nd Lee’s Accra Forest Moon Over Amenbury Red merle, pleasing head. Reasonable neck. Good bone and correct depth of chest, good shoulder placement. Moved better at the front than 1st but not as good on rear movement. Open 6 (none absent) 1st, BOB & PGP3 Richards, Birkcross Secret Agent With Accra JW 5 year old blue merle bitch, a very nicely proportioned bitch, lovely free movement, good shoulder and upper arm. Correct length of neck, strong top line. Good length of back and strong hindquarters. Good chest. 2nd Scanlan’s Reach For The Stars With Franmar, red merle bitch, lovely outline, nice neck and good length of back. Good quality coat. Couldn’t match the drive of 1st. 3rd Burt’s Save The Tears For Another Day With Aussiame (IMP ITA). Best puppy unplaced in open Smart’s Birkcross She’s Embracing black and white just 6 months old and a real baby. Needs to time to mature and was certainly up against it being in the open class. A very sweet temperament, nice head proportions, good neck and lay of shoulder.

Bearded Collie Post graduate 4 (1 absent) 1st BOB &BP PG2, Durndell’s Megamaree once Upon A Time At Fenacre. Lovely puppy bitch, 9 months old in good coat and condition, Good head and expression. Correct bite. Good neck, Strong bone. Nice length of back good spring of rib and depth of chest. Good front and hind quarters. Moved well with drive and covering the ground well. 2nd & Res BOB Haskell’s Eltimaris Hang out the Flags. 2 year old dog, pleasing head. Would prefer a more developed chest but he is still young, good length of back. Carried his tail a bit high on the move. 3rd Crossey Ambonrose Rose Star. Open no entries.

Samoyed Post graduate 5 (1 absent) 1st & Res BOB Willcock’s Ti Amo Boschi Vecchi For Dynar (IMP ITA), very feminine 2 year old bitch, beautiful balanced and clean head. lovey dark eye, neat triangular ears, good neck, correct lay of shoulder and good chest. Good turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Good tail set and carried well when moving. Good stride and drive from the rear. Strong bone. 2nd Meakin & Turner’s Plyushka Polar Star 4 years old male, good head, would prefer slightly more neck and a bit longer in back. Hindquarters ok. Moved freely. 3rd & BP, PGP 1 Prout’s Olimpia Maltayed At Furzeland (IMP POL). Super puppy, beautiful head, good ears and dark eye, nicely balanced and good front and rear quarters. Moved very well for her age and a lovely show girl. Open 4 (none absent) 1st, BOB PG2 Prout’s Maltayed At Furzeland (IMP POL) Lovey upstanding dog, super head, dark eye and pigment. Triangular ears correctly placed. Good length of neck, Correct front and rear angulation. Chest of correct depth and good ribs. Level top line. Moved out freely with a good stride and plenty of drive from the rear. 2nd Willcock’s SLO CH Mishka Na Severe Jam N Honey For Tea at Dynar (IMP RUS) BE JCH very elegant bitch, with good balanced head. Good front and rear quarters. Good tail carriage and moved well. Just a bit lighter in eye than 1st. 3rd Meakin & Turner’s Plyushka Gypsy Lunar Star.

German Shepherd Dog Post graduate 3 (2 absent) 1st & BOB Malcolm’s Llynvees Amadeus dog just over 2 1/2 year. Dark eye and good dentition. Skull needs to broaden, but head of good length. Good reach of neck and lay of shoulder. Ribs well sprung and broad deep chest. Good turn of stifle and good tail set. Moved freely once settled. Open 4 (3 absent) 1st & Res BOB Shaw’s Astradine Kornishman JW ShCM 8 ½ year old dog, well balanced head, long neck. Good lay of shoulder. Strong back. Good turn of stifle. Moved ok.

Old English Sheepdog Post graduate 1 (1 absent) Open 2 (none absent) 1st & BOB Hazzard’s Lindisfarm Hope Of Ishmael With Bleujenn,5 ½ year old dog, good head proportions, long neck and good strong back. Correct front angulation, good turn of stifle, Kept a level top line on the move. Moved freely coming & going. 2nd & Res BOB Wileman’s Lindisfarm Hope Redeemed, 3 year old bitch, nice feminine head, strong bone and good length of back. Good front and rear angulation. Top line not quite as good as winner of class.

Polish Lowland Sheepdog Open 1. 1st & BOB Burdett-Coutts Leon Astarte Gold Ama Me At Chrevle (IMP POL) 2 year old dog. Head of good proportions. In good coat and of good texture. Reasonable neck. Good front and rear angulation. Strong back. Moved well covering the ground and with drive at the rear.

Slight rise over the brows and dark eyes. Good front and rear quarters. Good length of back. Strong bone. Moved well. Open Bitch 1. 1st & Res BOB Mouncey’s Shepherds Of Paradise Rich Girl, very pretty bitch, pleasing head pattern. Good neck and chest. Good hind quarters. A bit bouncy on the move.

Welsh Corgi (Cardigan) Post graduate 2(none absent)1st & Res BOB Lee’s Chrihama Ice Diamond For Amenbury, dog just under 2 years, pleasing head and nice eye. Strong chest. Good bone. Correct shoulder angulation. Good length of back. Good hind angulation and moved out well. BP & 2nd Lee’s Gowerston Gemstone At Amenbury.b/m bitch 8 months old. Showing a lot of promise. Head ok, good neck and front angulation. Top line a bit loose but she is very young. Good bone and tail set. Moved freely. Open 3 (none absent) 1st & BOB Siviter’s Faywaid Spice, 5 year old brindle bitch. Nice eye and express, pleasing head. Reasonable neck, strong bone. Good front and rear angulation. Kept top line on the move. Moved freely with drive. 2nd Lee’s Wildcard Spot Check For Horcrux 6 year old b/m dog. Vey masculine, good neck and shoulder placement. Strong chest. Good rear angulation. Slight wave in coat and not as smooth on the move as winner. 3rdLee’s Chrishama Magic Apprentice for Amenbury.

Strong bone. Good balance. Moved soundly. Open 1 (none absent) 1st & BOB Lee’s Ballector Godric Grinfindor For Horcrux 6 1/2 year old dog. clean well balanced head. Pleasing eye. Good lay of shoulder and depth of chest. Strong back and level top lie. Hocks well let down. Good movement & very sound.

Briard Post graduate 2 (none absent) 1st & BOB Sweet’s Arundall Ebony black bitch 4 years old. Lovely head and expression. Good length of neck and good front angulation. Level top line. Good depth of chest and spring of ribs. Good hindquarters. Moved out well 2nd & Res BOB Jacob-Pearce’s Arundall, red dog and litter brother to 1st. quality dog and has the same attributes of his sister. He has a good length of back, but his top line not as level on the move as the winner. Moved freely. Open 2 (1 absent) 1st Jacob-Pearce’s Salieri Heaven Knows At Arundall ShCM 9 year old black bitch. Pleasing head and dark eye. Good bone and nice outline. Reasonable front and rear angulation. Movement good in profile slightly close at the rear.

Good length of head, well placed stop. Gentle eye and expression. Lovely long neck. Good length of back. Good lay of shoulder, Good depth of ribs, strong hindquarters. Strong bone. In good coat. So balanced with free flowing movement.

AVNSC Pastoral Open 3 (1 absent) 1st &Best AVNSC & BP AVNSC, PPG3, Dosson’s Leggatt’s Part Time Lover 6 months old dog. Very eye catching. Moved out well. Nice neck and good top line. Tail well set. Good bone. Front and rear angulation very good. 2nd & Res Best AVNSC Rundle’s Shulune Imperial Bonny Blu 6 months old b/m smooth Collie. This young lady was a bit over whelmed and needs to gain confidence, but she had a nice head with dark almond shaped eye. Correctly placed stop. Nice neck. Good bone. Good length of back.

Pastoral group 1Robinson’s Lavika Moonlight Storm, Shetland Sheepdog 2 years old dog. He created the most stunning picture, Such balance and elegance. Lovely moulded head with correctly placed stop, eyes and ears. Combining to give the sweetest expression. Good reach of neck, good lay of shoulder, correct depth of chest and good ribs. Level top line, good turn of stifle, short well let down hocks. In super coat and condition. He came into his own when moving. Free flowing movement which he could do all day. Covering the ground well with plenty of drive from the rear. A credit to his young handler who got the very best from him. Breed stake Class Junior 9 (30 absent) what a super and exciting class to judge. Although a lot absent, the quality of the dog’s present was excellent.1st Groves & Hyett’s Lateagain Wish upon A Star 7 ½ month old Dobermann bitch. Such a beauty who exudes quality. She is so balanced for one so young and presented in first class condition. Lovely head with good neck. Good length of back and level top line which she maintained on the move. Super confirmation.
