Thank you to the committee and officers of the Rotherham & District Cocker Spaniel Club for the kind invitation to judge their open show on 2nd November 2024. The entry was fantastic, both in numbers and quality, which made for some very close and challenging decisions in several classes. The show was held in a superb venue, with able and accomplished stewards Bob Needham and Debbie Yilmaz ensuring everything ran smoothly. The welcoming and hardworking committee created a warm and friendly atmosphere, making it a truly enjoyable day. Thank you all for a memorable experience!

Baby Puppy Dog (4,0)

1st Whitehead RYALLCOURT GRAND SLAM (AI) Quality black & white ticked in excellent coat and condition. Robust puppy of excellent type and correct boy proportions. Nicely chiseled head of good strength without coarseness. Well placed ears. Very good reach of neck seamlessly flows into well laid shoulder blades with good return of long, well angled upper arm. Straight legs which are well boned, feet are tight and thickly padded. Correctly developed chest. Deep brisket and well ribbed. Short loin, firm and level topline. Well set tail. Very good hindquarters. Sound throughout. Coordinated, effortless side gait with good drive. He has a natural flair for the ring and presented a consistent eye-catching image in both stance and movement. BEST BABY PUPPY IN SHOW

2nd Whitehead RYALLCOURT CHARM OF UNIQUE (AI) Sturdy black & white ticked puppy in excellent coat and condition. Pleasing outline, short and cobby. Good head, eye rims could be tighter. Good forehand angles. Straight columns. Well padded, tight feet. Good brisket, well ribbed. Sound throughout. Very good hindquarters. Short strong hocks. In glimpses he has a balanced side gait. A quality young puppy with more development to come and lots of potential. Litter brother to number 1 and would have been a worthy winner in his own right.

1st West SHEIGRA STARS IN HER EYES JW OSW ShCEx Excellent black bitch of correct type. Pleasing head and expression. Good reach of neck. Good forehand angles. Good forechest. Deep, well developed brisket. Good spring of ribs, short strong loin. Straight, firm back. Good set of tail. Very good hind angles, broad thigh. Good turn of stifle. Sound throughout. Happy, enthusiastic and bustling around the ring with good drive and very good outline on the move. BEST VETERAN

2nd Dewell WINONIA HIDDEN GEM AT QUATTROZAMPE VW Well put together blue bitch of good size and strength. Shown in excellent coat and condition. Good head, balanced with good expression. Good body proportions, short & cobby. Neck of sufficient, balanced length flowing into correct lay of shoulder. Upper arm could be longer. Straight legs, well padded, tight feet, pasterns should be firmer. Deep brisket, well ribbed. Short loin. Broad, strong thigh. Moves with motivation displaying a balanced, coordinated gait with good drive and retaining a pleasing outline with firm back.

1st Marris-Bray PLAIGLEN BIKER BABE TO HELENWOOD JW Substantial black bitch of very good type in excellent coat and condition. Balanced head, good expression, cleanly chiseled and all feminine. Very well boned. Good forehand angles excellent legs and feet, a contender for best legs and feet of the day. Good brisket development, well ribbed, short and wide loin. Firm topline. Broad thighs, good turn of stifle, would like a little more length in second thigh. Well presented she moves soundly throughout with good drive and very good front reach retaining a good outline.

2nd Thomas CLARAMAND THE GAMBLER Black & tan well boned, balanced dog puppy of very good type. Correct shoulder angulation with well laid shoulders and good return of long upper arm. Straight legs and correct feet. Good forechest, deep brisket, well ribbed, short strong loin. Very good underline and topline which is level and firm. Sound throughout. A little hesitant but then he gives you the full picture and he moves with a good sequence of steps with good drive and retains a pleasing outline.

Any Solid Colour Special Graduate (4,0)

1st Henderson PENDLEDELL TI AMO This well boned, substantial black bitch was presented today in very good coat and condition. Very good head and expression. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulder. Straight back. Very good width of thigh. Good turn of stifle. Well ribbed, strong loin. Feet could be tighter and pasterns should be firmer. Presents a pleasing picture in stance. In movement the back isn’t as firm as I would like which is frustrating as the gait is coordinated and balanced.

2nd West JAMESFIELD JUST A STAR AT SHEIGRA Golden bitch of good type. Very feminine in general appearance. Well boned. Good proportions. Balanced head with good expression. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm of good length. Good brisket. Good underline. Level topline. Good hindquarters with broad, well muscled thigh. She lacks the coat furnishings and glamour of her contemporaries but not to be misled by coat she is well put together and moves with good presence portraying a balanced and coordinated side gait.

1st Shinkfield QUETTADENE QUEEN OF STARS JW Pleasingly typical and substantial. Expressive. Good coat and condition. Good forehand angles, upper arm of good length but could be better angled. Good depth of brisket. Well ribbed, short, strong loin, level back. Well rounded hind angles. Broad strong thigh. Sound throughout. Demonstrates a fluent side gait with good drive retaining a pleasing outline.

2nd West SHEIGRA SIMPLY A STAR JW Another well put together balanced black with excellent bone, substance and presented in gleaming condition. Good head, sweet expression. Very good forehand assembly, good forechest and depth of brisket. Well ribbed. Good legs and feet, would like a smidgen more height on the foreleg. Excellent hind angles, rounded and strong. Sound throughout. Good balanced side gait, would like the back to be firmer during movement, very good drive and free effective front reach.

Any Other Colour Special Puppy (6,3)

1st Whitehad RYALLCOURT TWIS TAN SHOUT Quality, impressive Black, White & Tan over medium sized male of excellent type and proportions. This is a bit of what I like! Glamour and type in one complete package. Very good height to length proportions. Correct lay of shoulder and long upper arm which is well angled. Straight columns, feet could be tighter. Good depth of brisket and development of fore chest relevant to his age. Well ribbed, short loin, firm back, good lay and length of croup , well rounded pronounced hind angulation. Sound throughout. He has a roomy gait with very good drive which is transmitted along a firm back and supports a free front reach. Excellent deportment and retains an excellent outline at all phases. He was a convincing choice for BEST PUPPY IN SHOW, thanks to his undeniable charisma and impressive ring presence. Combined with his type, presentation, and overall firmness, he stood out as a truly deserving winner.

2nd Brown & Crossley SNOWGATE GIVES JOY AND HOPE TO ATHERBRON Well constructed blue of good type and proportions. Correct bone, correct size. Very good forehand angles, pasterns could be firmer. Deep brisket, well ribbed. Short strong loin. Good hind angles with strong broad thighs. Sound throughout. When she concentrates she has a good balanced, effective side gait with good drive and reach.

Any Other Colour Special Graduate (9,2)

1st Gilmour CHAVEZ SILVER CLOUD Impressed from the minute he walked in the ring. Very typical, substantial with good height to length proportions and very good top and underline. Very good head, good reach of neck flows into well laid shoulders. Upper arm is long and well angled. Straight legs which are well boned and tight, thickly padded feet. Very good fore chest development. Deep brisket, well ribbed, firm topline, short strong loin. Well rounded hind angles, good turn of stifle, broad strong thighs. The lower thigh is dimensionally on the limit, the hocks are strong, perpendicular and he moves soundly with very good drive. He effectively uses all his hind power and transmits it efficiently through a firm back to a free front reach and produces a fluent, roomy side gait. I didn’t shortlist but he was a consideration for one of the top awards.

2nd Davies MANCHELA LITTLE MERMAID OF ANNASIDE Pleasingly typical, expressive with good strength. Good height to length proportions. Good head, strong but definitely feminine. Good top and underline. Good brisket depth and good spring of rib with short strong loin. Good length of level back. Strong, broad thighs, would like a little more bend of stifle. Good lower thigh. Sound throughout and exhibits a fluent gait with effective drive and reach.

1st Williams WILMERELLA MEMPHIS BELLE JW Substantial, powerful, typical blue in excellent coat and condition. Excellently presented. Very good head with good stop and good expression. Very good forehand angulation, good fore chest and deep balanced brisket. Well ribbed and short loin. Would like a more defined and firmer wither. Stands on straight columns with thickly padded feet. Good hind angles would like more bend in the stifle and a little more in the lower thigh. Sound throughout. A picture presented to perfection in stance, in movement the back should be firmer to complete the balanced, enthusiastic side gait.

2nd Darby ALLERTS DON VIKING AT CLASSICWAY JW (IMP SWE) This well put together blue is very appealing in stance and possesses good anatomical qualities including a very good top and underline. Good head and gentle expression. Good reach of neck into good lay of shoulder. Forehand completed with a long upper arm. Straight legs, good feet which are well padded. Well ribbed, short, strong loin. Well rounded hind angulation. Sound throughout. When he focuses he demonstrates a fluent roomy gait with good drive and reach retaining a firm topline and pleasing outline.

Any Colour Minor Puppy Dog (4,2)

1st Ward WHINBURN WALK THE MOON TO WENSUM Pleasingly well boned, substantial black dog of very good type with correct height to length proportions and good development for his age. Good head and expression. Very good reach of neck. Well laid shoulder with good return of a long, balanced upper arm. Very good legs and feet. Balanced brisket and good ribs. Short loin. Very good topline and underline. Well round hind angles with broad thighs, good bend of stifle and short strong hocks. Moves soundly. The very good fore and hind angulation allow him good reach and very good hind thrust in a balanced, disciplined side gait.

2nd Palmer SANDANCA LIONHEART TO COLMEIR A black, white & tan in excellent condition. Over medium size with good bone. Long upper arm of good angle. Wither should be more defined and firmer. Sound viewed in front and rear. Pasterns could be firmer. Good depth of chest and well ribbed. Broad thigh, short firm hocks. Would like a little more bend in the stifle. He puts it all together well on the move with a balanced side gait portrayed with enthusiasm.

Any Colour Minor Puppy Bitch (5,3)

1st McGill CARMELFAIR CALISTA Delightful blue puppy who has come on leaps and bounds since I judged her in August. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Very good height to length proportions with very good top and underline. Neck of balanced length flows seamlessly into well angled shoulders with good return of upper arm. Balanced brisket proportions with firm elbows. Well ribbed, short, strong loin. Very good hind angulation with powerful thighs and firm hocks. Moves soundly in front and behind demonstrating a fluent, ground-covering gait with good drive and free front reach. Excellent ring performance with good deportment, retains a very good outline and convince at every phase of the competition to win BEST MINOR PUPPY IN SHOW.

2nd Sherlock CRIMICAR DREAMCHASER Immature blue puppy with lots of potential. Good head and expression. Medium bone. Good proportions. Stands on straight columns with good feet. Good length of upper arm. Good spring of rib. Short loin. Withers need to develop and back needs to firm. Good hind angles, well rounded. Moves soundly with coordination and fluency.

1st McBride TOPDAY TAKE THAT Impressive blue of excellent type. Presented well in excellent coat and condition. Strongly expressive. Very good reach of neck. Very good height to length proportions. Excellent topline. Good forehand angles. Very well boned legs and tight, thickly padded feet. Balanced brisket, firm elbows. Well ribbed. Short, strong loin couples up excellent hind angles that are well rounded with broad thighs, good turn of stifle and short strong hocks. Moves soundly. He has considerable enthusiasm and displays a fluent gait with powerful hindthrust and very good front reach with very good deportment and pleasing outline at all phases.

2nd Dolan SNOWGATE SHINE ON Substantial, typical dark blue who is unfortunately missing an incisor. Well proportioned with good angles fore and aft. Stands on well boned straight columns. Good brisket and well ribbed. Withers should be firmer and more pronounced, and the stifle should have more bend. He is a keen and enthusiastic puppy in the ring and displays a fluent and balanced side gait.

1st Thomas CLARAMAND BLACK FANCY Well put together, appealing black puppy of excellent type. Good bone and substance, balanced with good height to length proportions. Clean head, sweet expression. Very good topline and underline. Very good reach of neck which flows into good shoulder blades of good length and angle. Very good return of upper arm. Balanced brisket proportions, correct front. Stands on straight columns, thickly padded feet. Good spring of rib. Short strong loin. Wide, strong thigh, well rounded hindquarters, good turn of stifle, good second thigh and short, strong hocks. Moves soundly and harmoniously with a fluent side gait with effective drive and free front reach.

2nd Lowery SNOWGATE CERTAIN STYLE Cobby, typical blue of medium size and bone. Very feminine general appearance. Well presented in good coat and condition. Expressive head. Upper arm could be better angled. Well ribbed, lever back. Broad thigh. More bend of the stifle would drop her quarters to improve the outline in movement. Sound throughout. She had phases of reticence but when she relaxed she displayed a balanced, fluent gait and narrowly pipped her sister on overall general firmness.

2nd Tavernor CASSOM DANCING QUEEN AT REGALTAV Strikingly appealing medium size, good height to length proportions. Very good type good femininity. Good top and underline. Good head and expression. Good reach of neck. Good forehand angulation with good length and angle of shoulder blade and good return of well angled upper arm. Balanced deep brisket. Well sprung ribs. Good hind angulation. Sound throughout. She’s very enthusiastic and a little erratic but when settled she displays a balanced coordinated side gait with good drive and front reach.

Any Colour Yearling (4,2)

1st Buck CLAVAIRE MARRAKECH SKY JW This striking, quality orange roan ticks all the boxes for me! Presented in immaculate condition, he exemplifies excellent type with correct, square body proportions. Deeply bodied with good length of well-boned foreleg—though feet could be tighter—he boasts a long, well-angled upper arm paired with a good lay and length of shoulder. His well-defined withers and firm, level back complement a short, strong loin that couples seamlessly with excellent hindquarters, broad thighs, good bend of stifle, and short, strong hocks. In stance, he presents a picture of quality and balance. On the move, he demonstrates a sound, ground-covering, fluent, and dynamic gait with impressive drive from the hindquarters and free front reach. His movement is both functional and elegant, consistently transmitting power from the hindquarters through a firm back to the forehand. This is a merry, sturdy, and fit dog with superb anatomical construction, exceptional ring presence, and magnetic charm. He absolutely captivated me and performed with excellence in every phase, making him a thoroughly deserving BEST IN SHOW.

Good forechest, good depth of brisket, well ribbed, short loin. Well rounded hind angulation, would like more bend of stifle and firmer back. Moves soundly with good drive and reach.

Any Colour Novice (5,1)

1st Buck CLAVAIRE VINTAGE TAN A cobby, typical, and excellent quality orange roan with very good body proportions. She has a good reach of neck that sits correctly into well-laid shoulders, complemented by a well-angled and lengthy upper arm. Some excess weight on the withers. A firm, level backline maintained consistently throughout the competition enhance her overall structure. She stands on straight columns with good depth of brisket, is well-ribbed, and has a short, strong loin. Her hindquarters are impressive, with broad, strong thighs, a very good turn of stifle, and short, strong hocks. Viewed from the rear, she possessed the very best 'bum' of the day, exuding balance and strength. Her impressive movement was a highlight, demonstrating considerable spirit with a fluent, ground-covering gait. She displayed excellent deportment and maintained a pleasing outline at all times, making her a standout competitor on the day.

Good hindquarters with broad thighs and short strong hocks. Moves soundly with enthusiasm, fluent and effective when settled.

2nd Beever DANDYJAN TINY DANCER Typical blue of good body proportions. Well chiseled head, good expression. Shoulder could have a better angle. Firm topline. Good depth of brisket. Stands on straight columns, firm elbows, good feet. Well ribbed. Well-rounded hindquarters with good width of thigh. Short strong hocks. Sound throughout. Fluent gait with good drive a reach. Very close decision between first and second.

1st Darby CLASSICWAY CHIMING BELLS A very pleasing and expressive blue of excellent type who distinguished herself for the top award today. She has a well-chiseled head with good strength, yet remains distinctly feminine. Square, balanced, and well-boned, she possesses a very good reach of neck that flows seamlessly into well-laid shoulders, a firm, well-defined wither, a short, strong, level back, and a good croup with a well-set tail—although she does have a frustrating habit of raising it during extended gaiting. Her deep, balanced brisket and well-ribbed body are complemented by a very good underline. She stands on straight, well-boned legs with thickly padded feet. A short, strong loin couples with excellent hindquarters that are well-rounded, featuring strong, broad thighs and a very good length of second thigh. Short, strong hocks complete the picture. On the move, she is sound and efficient, demonstrating effective drive from the hindquarters that transmits power through a firm back to a free front reach, all while maintaining a pleasing outline at every stage. With her convincing performance and exceptional qualities, I was pleased to award her RESERVE BEST IN SHOW and BEST OPPOSITE SEX.

2nd West SHEIGRA SUPER SECRET JW A golden in excellent condition. Very good general appearance, typical with good bone. Good head and expression. Very good foreahdn assembly with well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm. Very good development of forechest, deep brisket, well ribbed. Level topline. Excellent hindquarters with strong, broad thighs. Short strong hocks. Powerful drive moves her enthusiastically with fluency completed with free front reach.

1st Marris-Bray, Wiggins & Woods GLOWHILL GALLIVANT JW Not the flashiest dog presented today but one of the most correct. Anatomically very good, square, cobby of correct size and well boned. Correct forehand assembly with well laid shoulder and good return of long well angled upper arm. Very good legs and feet. Well developed forechest. Deep, balanced brisket, well ribbed, short strong loin. Firm, level topline. Excellent hindquarters with strong broad thighs, short strong hocks. With efficiency and harmony he moves with powerful effective drive covering the ground with excellent deportment and retaining a pleasing outline.

2nd Saunders CARMELFAI COROCENZO AT OXFORDOGS Substantial, very typical. Strong head. Good reach of neck. Good back line and set of tail. Very good body proportions. Good forehand angles, long upper arm. Balanced brisket, well ribbed, good underline. Short, strong loin. Excellent hindquarters with strong, broad thighs and very good turn of stifle. Enthusiastic movement with good drive, balanced and roomy retaining a good outline.

1st West SHEIGRA SUPER SPECIAL JW Very typical black in excellent condition and correct body proportions. Good head and expression. Very good reach of neck flows into well laid shoulders. Level back. Good underline. Deeply bodied, well ribbed, short strong loin. Very good hindquarters with broad, strong thighs. Moves soundly. She moves enthusiastically and happily, not always maintaining the deportment she demonstrates in stance the side gait is roomy and coordinated with powerful hind thrust and very good front reach.

2nd Wheatley AMAROANNE APHRODITE AT MELANDROY Strongly boned, well put together blue of good type. Good body proportions. Good back. Good forehand assembly. Straight legs, pasterns could be firmer. Balanced brisket, well ribbed. Good hindquarters. Moves soundly. She moves with enthusiasm although the back could be firmer she has a roomy gait with good drive and free front reach.
