Taunton & District Canine Association

A new Year and another pleasurable opportunity to judge a different group at Taunton & District Canine Association Open show. A great atmosphere with a friendly and welcoming committee make this a very enjoyable day. My two very able stewards Jenny & Chris worked like Trojans with efficiency and proficiency to keep the classes flowing and everything in order, thank you.

Australian Shepherd

Moved out well with effective hind drive BP. 2 Burt Aussiame Hot to Trot JW Nice young dog, shown in good condition. Well proportioned. Effective, ground covering side gait. PG (1 0) 1 Lee Villanyda Witches Moon (Imp Esp) Nice head, very expressive. Good fore angles, adequate hind angles. Moved well with balanced side gait. Not in best of coats today. O (3 0) 1Lee Villanyda Wizards Apprentice For Amenbury (Imp Esp) Good head, would like a bit more neck. Well developed forechest. Good hindquarters. Does enough on the move, drives well and coves the ground retaining a level firm topline. BOB 2 Lee Aoiristar Hunters Moon Over Amenbury (Imp) Good head with broad skull and strong muzzle. Upper arm could be better angled and stands 5to1. Pleasing outline but topline could be firmer. Not as good in hindquarters as number 1.

Bearded Collie

SY (6 3) 1 Axford Bramblemead Bollinger Boy Liked the strength and proportions of this young male. Super condition. Good head, broad skull. Good reach of neck. Good foreangles. Well ribbed. Strong loin. Strong broad thighs with good turn of stifle. Moves soundly. Has a good ground covering gait with effective drive. He moved better in the puppy group when the rings were opened up and was awarded Pastoral Puppy Group 1. Congratulations and good luck. 2 Patterson Eltimaris Platinum Pudding Nice outline, flat square skull, feminine expression, good length of rib, very pleasing outline. Level firm topline. Upper arm could be better angled. Adequate hindquarters. Went through the motions of gaiting but today it was a little lacklustre. PG (4 2) 1 Patterson Eltimaris Jubilee Hoorah Liked this blue female from the onset. Pleasing outline and a pleasure to go over. Nice head of good shape and proportion. Strong bone. Good forehand angles. Good development of brisket. Well ribbed, good body length with level firm topline. Balanced throughout. Good turn of stifle and broad thighs. Effortlessly covered the ground with good stride length. Well presented and shown in super condition. BOB 2 Axford Bramblemead Bollinger Boy O (2 1) 1 Betts Winterlyn Heaven Can Wait With Pipadene Nice slate grey in good condition and well presented. Balanced and well proportioned. Good angles fore and aft. Well ribbed. Good depth of chest. Moved well but carrying tail to one side today which spoiled the overall picture.

Feminine head. Straight columns. Good over and underline creates pleasing picture. Good fore angles. Moved well with free and easy gait retaining a good outline. BP.

PG (1 1) O (1 0) 1 Taylor Darian End Game Well boned. Sound throughout. Broad skull, expressive. Little upright in fore angles. Back is firm. Loin a little long. Good hind angles. Moves with good stride but the back should be firmer. BOB

PG (1 1) O (3 2) 1 Gardner & Hillier Charson Carrie Oakey What a cracker! Well proportioned, muscular and presented in tip top condition. Her fawn coat is in excellent condition. Strong but feminine head carried proudly on strong neck of very good length. Strong bone. Well angulated shoulders flow into a level, firm topline. Good ribs. Excellent chest development. Strong hindquarters with broad thighs. A picture in stance but in movement it’s effortless. Powerful hind drive and good fore reach cover the ground with an effortless, flowing side gait maintaining a pleasing outline at all speeds. Loved her, from the minute she came in I knew the marker had been set for the rest of the day. BOB, Pastoral Group 1 and I was pleased to learn she had returned the following day and won Reserve Best In Show. Best of luck for the future.

PG (2 1) 1 Hawkins Serenlas Black Magic Stood alone in the class but he impressed with his outline in stance and excellent coat condition. Very good head, clean wedge shape. Very good ear placement. Nicely arched neck of good length. Good bone and straight columns. Very good shoulder and upper arm. Excellent development of brisket. Deep chest and well ribbed. Very good top line. Strong hindquarters with good broad thigh and very good turn of stifle. He’s exuberant and keen to move. Effortless, flowing side gait light and ground covering. Lovely dog. Well sprung ribs. Excellent hindquarters, broad and powerful with excellent turn of stifle. Fluent, ground covering side gait with very good drive. Second time I’ve judged this impressive dog and my high opinion of him still remains. Today he had to give way to a rising star but a worthy Pastoral Group 2 in a final line up of super dogs. 2 Dosson Kligenthal Bran Mak Morn (Norwegian Buhund) Smart, well built, short coupled, compact body. Nice wedge shaped head, well placed ears. Expressive and alert. Nicely arched neck. Straight columns, good feet. Deep chest, very good underline. Good topline. Good ribs. Firm loin. Good hindquarters, strong with the desired angulation. Moves soundly. Light, lively side gait with good balanced stride.

Both dog and handler are starting out in the ring and the performance was not quite polished. However, the young gentleman is clearly keen to learn and enthusiastic about the hobby.
