SOUTH YORKSHIRE WHIPPET CLUB OPEN SHOW
Sunday 25th February 2024
I’d like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge their club show, my stewards & the exhibitors for accepting my decisions with such good sportsmanship. Excitingly history was apparently made as this was the first Whippet show to feature the Baby Puppy classes, such fun to judge.
Baby Puppy Dog (1,0 abs)
1st. Leathart’s – Ringmore Jamieson. Good head with kind eye, straight front with good feet, super neck & shoulder, good depth, excellent topline & quarters. Very much a baby at 5 months, he moved out well.
Minor Puppy Dog (11, 2 abs)
1st. Brew’s – Crosscop Wanna Go For A Ride With Supeta. Beautiful head & eye on this 7-month baby, super front with good fill in, excellent topline, depth of chest & good loin. Lovely quarters with well let down hocks, shown in super coat & condition, he moved out well all ways.
2nd. Winkley-Balmer & Winkley’s – Edenwhip Call Me At Night. Close up to the winner, this 6½ month boy has a super head & eye, excellent forehand, lovely top & underline, well-made quarters & good through the body. Super in profile movement, he wasn’t quite as positive going away as the winner.
3rd. Wilton-Clark’s – Shalfleet Oliver Twist.
Puppy Dog (9, 3 abs)
1st. Howgate & Hull’s – Palmik Turn It On Again, 10 months old. Classic head shape & a beautiful eye & expression, superb neck & shoulder placement, straight front with good bone & feet. Excellent topline, good body depth, strong loin, good underline & super quarters. He was so sound & true out & back with a long & easy stride in profile, well deserved BPD.
2nd. Wilton-Clark’s – Shalfleet Chasing The Dream. Another quality boy, 10 months old & really developing as he should. Super head, eye & expression, excellent forehand into well-developed body, good depth & spring of rib. Strong loin into curvy quarters with good muscletone, sound & true out & back & good in profile.
3rd. Russell’s – Longmire The Lark Ascending.
Junior Dog (5, 1 abs)
1st. Higginbottom’s – Ranveli Royal Duke of Dawnsafon. Pleasing head & expression, good neck & shoulder leading to straight well boned forelegs. Good topline & underline, well developed body & well-made quarters. He moved well in all directions.
2nd. Tyson’s – Starceylon Dancing Master. Kind head, eye & expression, super forehand with straight front, lovely topline, depth of chest & ribbing. His quarters were well made & muscled correctly which allowed him to move straight and true with a good footfall.
3rd. Ellis’ – Citycroft Jules Rimet for Railfield.
Yearling Dog (4, 0 abs)
1st. Price’s – Kierpark Moonlight Shadow among Silkdance. Pleasing head, good neck, straight front with good feet. Good depth of chest, spring of rib, topline & quarters. He moved out well.
2nd. McKinna’s – Springfern Widgeon. Another nice boy with a pleasing head & expression, good through the forehand & body, straight well boned front. Correct topline & good quarters, he moved out with a good stride.
3rd. Brew’s – Nevedith Gold Blend.
Novice Dog (6, 2 abs)
1st. Palmik Turn It On Again.
2nd. Dargue & Halliday’s – Bowdonia Feet of Flames at Jalwhipp. Kind head & eye, good neck, shoulders & front. Super topline, depth of chest & spring of rib, lovely quarters. He was a little nervous at first but pulled himself together & moved out well in all directions.
3rd. Furniss’s – Jazzellie Reach For the Sky.
Graduate Dog (1, 0 abs)
1st. Rayner & Booth’s – Rogansrock Vital Quest. Pleasing head & eye, good forehand with straight front. Good topline & body, well-made quarters which he used well to move correctly out & back with a good if slightly exuberant stride. Super condition.
Post Graduate Dog (3, 0 abs)
1st. Robinson’s – Indian Chief at Tarnward. Beautiful head, eye & expression, good neck & shoulder, super front & feet. Correct topline, good depth of chest, fill in front, ribbing & underline. Super, well-muscled quarters with well let down hock, he moved out soundly with a good profile action.
2nd. Wayman’s – Ranveli Beach Boy At Scarletfair. Masculine head with a super eye & expression. Good forehand, straight well boned front with good feet. Holding his topline well, he has good depth, strong loin & super quarters. He moved out well & was shown in excellent condition.
3rd. Winup & Paipala’s – Rogansrock Harvest Moon.
Limit Dog (8, 1 abs)
1st. Martin’s – Bowdonia Go The Distance for Stalwart. Curvey boy with a super head, eye & expression. Excellent neck & shoulder, into straight well boned front & good feet. Super topline, good depth of chest, fill in & ribbing to strong loin. Excellent quarters with correct muscletone, he was shown in super condition all through. He was well balanced & had a lovely outline on the move with super profile action.
2nd. Russell’s – Arjuna Winter Star. Another quality boy with a beautiful head & eye. Excellent forehand construction, good depth, spring of rib & topline. Lovely well-muscled quarters & good feet. Sound out & back with good foot fall in profile.
3rd. Wayman’s – Collooney Charlie Brown At Scarletfair.
Open Dog (10, 2 abs)
1st. Wilton-Clark’s – Shalfleet Chasing The Wind. Quality boy with balance & a very striking outline. He has a beautiful head, with dark expressive eye. Super neck into well laid shoulder, straight well boned forelegs, super feet. He holds his topline so well both stacked & on the move, has a super depth of chest, good fill-in in front, quality bone, is well ribbed back to strong loin & good underline. He has well let down hocks & has super musculature on his hindquarters & throughout the body. So sound & true out & back with a low easy stride, he totally filled my eye & fought off all competition to win BD, RBIS & BOS.
2nd. Johnston & Wilson’s – Ch. Aarminias Dragon Lord of Danluke. Another super hound who can hold his own anywhere. Kind head, eye & expression, super forehand construction, excellent topline, super depth of chest & ribbing, strong loin & super quarters. Conditioned to perfection he moved with a sound & easy stride, a very close decision. RBD.
3rd. Winkley-Balmer & Poole’s – Edenwhip Can I Be Him.
Special Racing/Lure Coursing Dog (2, 1 abs)
1st. Leathart’s – Ringmore Dalrymple. Pleasing head & eye, good through the neck & shoulder, good depth, topline & underline. He has super quarters which were very well muscled & he was as fit as a flea. Moved out well. BRLCIS.
Veteran Dog (7, 0 abs)
1st. Wayman’s – Crème Anglaises One More Knight at Scarletfair. Super head, eye & expression on this 8-year-old boy. He has an excellent neck & shoulder, straight well boned front with good feet, excellent topline & quarters. He moved out & back well with a lovely side gait, well deserved BVD & BVIS.
2nd. Mycroft’s – Supeta’s Secret Weapon. Upstanding boy with a kind head & expression, excellent forehand, lovely through the topline & body with super quarters. In gleaming conditioning for his 7 years, he moved out well in all directions.
3rd. Whitehead’s – Ch. Citycroft High Society.
Baby Puppy Bitch (5,1 abs)
1st. Moreland’s – Zoraden Gossip Girl. What a little poppet this 5-month-old baby girl is. She has the most appealing head, eye & expression. Super neck, shoulder, front & feet, good depth for age & holding her topline well. Curvey quarters, she was so true & when the excitement was over, she showed her beautiful side gait. A very promising pup, BBPIS.
2nd. Le’vell’s – Velandor Ballerina Baby. Pretty girl of 5 months with a kind eye. Good forehand, excellent topline, body & quarters. Moved out well, just needs a little more confidence – with luck this will come.
3rd. Leathart’s – Ringmore Jocasta.
Minor Puppy Bitch (12, 4 abs)
A super class of pups
1st. Short’s – Collooney Celeste. Beautifully balanced baby of 6½ months. She has a beautiful head & eye, crested neck, super front with quality bone & lovely feet. She has an excellent topline & underline, good tailset & quarters. She moved soundly in all directions, one to watch.
2nd. Mycroft’s – Crosscop California Barbie from Supeta. This 7-month-old lady has a head & expression to die for, excellent forehand, good depth & ribbing, lovely topline & quarters. She excellent in profile movement, just needs to tighten up behind to complete a lovely picture.
3rd. Lister & Swarbrick’s – Edenwhip Ima Bright Star.
Puppy Bitch (7, 1 abs)
1st. Howgate & Hull’s – Palmik Take Me Home. This beautiful girl walked into the ring & owned it with her style, grace & balance. She has a beautiful head with captivating eye, textbook forehand with quality bone. She is a series of graceful curves through the body & quarters & was conditioned to perfection. Sound & true out & back with a long, low stride. At only 10 months her time will come, delighted to award her BPB & in the challenge she pulled out the stops to beat her equally exciting brother to BPIS.
2nd. Short’s – Collooney Bellissima Bloom. Beautiful 6½ months girl with a lovely outline, super head shape & eye, great through the body with super quarters. She moved out well & was unlucky to meet the winner in such great form.
3rd. Fry’s – Jothryn Lady Penelope.
Junior Bitch (8, 1 abs)
1st. Carr’s – Jothryn True Way Love. Beautiful head & expression with a mischievous glint in her eye. Super forehand, front & feet, curvy body lines with super ribbing to good loin. Excellent quarters which were well muscled, she moved out well.
2nd. Wheeler & Rutter’s – Ranveli Royal Touch. Pretty girl with an excellent forehand, good depth of chest, correct topline & good tuck up. Well-made quarters, she was shown in gleaming condition & moved well.
3rd. Tyson’s – Starceylon Regina Di Quadri.
Yearling Bitch (6, 2 abs)
1st. Johnston & Wilson’s – Danluke Don’t I Know It. Another stunning girl who captivated me. The most beautiful head with expressive eye & a hint of wickedness. Superb forehand with good angles, straight well boned forelegs & good feet. Excellent topline, underline, ribbing & strength in loin. Her quarters were well made & well-muscled allowing her to move soundly with a little bit of class. Only young still, she will trouble the best with a few more months under her belt, delighted to award her RBB in very good company.
2nd. Howgate & Hull’s – Palmik Truth About Love. Another cracker from this kennel, she has the most beautiful eye & expression from a correctly shaped head. Super through the forehand, with plenty of heart room & strong loin into curvy quarters with well let down hocks. In super coat & conditioning she moved true out & back with a ground covering stride in profile.
3rd. Le’Vell’s – Lolani Glamourous In Satin at Velandor.
Novice Bitch (8, 1 abs)
1st. Palmik Take Me Home.
2nd. Thomas’ – Bowdonia Sky Full of Stars. Pretty head & expression, excellent neck & shoulder, super topline & depth of chest & good quarters. Moved out well all ways.
3rd. Cooper’s – Crosscop I’m Alwayz Yours at Ballauren.
Graduate Bitch (3, 2 abs)
1st. Mallinson’s – Edenwhip Vera. Pretty girl with a kind, dark eye. Excellent neck & shoulder, straight front, good topline & depth of chest & super quarters. She was good out & back with a good footfall.
Post Graduate Bitch (7, 0 abs)
1st. Thomas & Halliday’s – Brochinbelle Ooh La La at Bowdonia. Pretty head & eye, good neck, straight well boned forelegs, excellent topline, depth of chest & quarters. Moved soundly with freedom in profile.
2nd. Johnson’s – Cyangrange Our Tiger Lily. Pretty girl, long neck & good shoulder, pleasing topline, super underline & quarters. Moved out well.
3rd. Worrall’s – Khabaray Olive D’Champers.
Limit Bitch (13, 4 abs)
1st. Lister & Swarbrick’s – Edenwhip High Cup Nick. Pretty girl with a super eye & expression, excellent neck, shoulder, front & feet. Super topline & underline, good depth of chest & spring of rib. Her quarters are well made & well-muscled with well let down hocks, good conditioning throughout she moved soundly with a good stride.
2nd. Myers’ – Supeta’s Taste The Rainbow with Astrazone. Lovely head & eye, excellent neck & shoulder, straight well boned front, super topline, body & quarters. Moved out very well & pushed the winner hard.
3rd. Jones’ – Jothryn Black Eyed Blond.
Open Bitch (9, 1 abs)
1st. Short’s – Collooney the Little Tease. Stunning girl who did not put a foot wrong. Head & expression to die for, so good through the neck & shoulder, super bone & feet, good fill-in in front. Excellent topline, good depth & spring of rib, strong loin, quality quarters with excellent muscletone & good turn of stifle. She is sound & true out & back, has the required daisy cutting action with a free & easy side gait. Coat & condition was first class & she had that air of importance. I fell for her charms & was delighted to award her BB & BIS.
2nd. Mycroft, Mycroft, Morris & Waddell’s – Ch. Crosscop Candle In The Wind to Supeta. Classy lady with a super head, eye & expression. She has a beautiful forehand with good angles, matching quarters & flowing lines through the body. She is sound & true & covers the ground with ease.
3rd. Mycroft’s – Ch. Supeta’s Little Darlin’.
Special Racing/Lure Coursing Bitch (2, 0 abs)
1st. Leathart’s – Ringmore Hecate. This lady throws a balanced outline, has a pretty head & expression, was in tip-top condition & moved out well.
2nd. Cooper’s – Gods Plan at Ballauren. Pretty girl with a kind eye & expression, pleasing body & forehand, good quarters. She moved well.
Veteran Bitch (5, 0 abs)
1st. Winup & Paipala’s – Rogansrock Lucky Charm. Lovely lady of 7½ years, she has a beautiful head & expression, excellent forehand, super body, topline, underline & quarters. She has super balance & moved soundly & freely, a very nice girl. BVB.
2nd. Vaughan-Wall’s – Shirotae Solo Surprise. Beautiful dark eye, good head shape, super front, topline & good quarters. She moved out well.
3rd. Robinson’s – Tarward Willow.
