THE BLOODHOUND CLUB OPEN SHOW

Saturday 10th February 2024

I’d like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge their club show, my stewards & the exhibitors for accepting my decisions with such good sportsmanship.

Puppy Dog (2,0 Abs)

1st. Hudson’s – Graceminster Rumble. Handsome boy of 9 months, he has a good eye, long, lean skull, good depth of muzzle, large open nose. Low set ear, curling gracefully, good bite. Reachy neck into good shoulder, good bone & substance, straight front & super topline. He has good ribbing which extends well back & has plenty of heart room. Well let down hocks & good muscletone for age. He moved well out & back with a free & easy stride. Wasn’t quite as collected as his sister in the challenge. BPD & RBD.

2nd. Phelan’s – Graceminster Reverance. Litter brother & another typy hound, he has a lovely head with dark eye, good neck & shoulder. Not quite the front of his brother, he has a good topline & is super through the body. Well-made quarters, he was shown in super condition. He moved out well enough but needs a little more time to collect himself. Both handler & hound were a little overawed but still managed to put on a very good performance.

Post Graduate Dog (1,0 Abs)

1st. Priestley’s – Marksbury Railway of Quikotic. Upstanding boy of 15 months & maturing nicely. Dark, good shaped eye, head of correct proportions with almost parallel planes, pronounced occipital point all framed by gracefully curled leathers of good texture. Super neck into correct shoulder, straight well boned forelegs, level topline, super depth of chest, spring of rib & keel. Good quarters with super muscletone, excellent stern carried well. He moved out well in all directions & covered the ground with ease. BD & RBIS.

Puppy Bitch (2,0 Abs)

1st. Hudson’s – Graceminster Ruby Slippers. This super 9 month old lady has a pleasing head with a dark eye & dignified expression, good depth to muzzle & low set leathers. She has a super neck, into well laid shoulder, & straight well boned front. She held her topline well, has good depth & breadth in ribbing & is good through the loin. She has good quarters with muscletone coming on nicely, I would perhaps like her tailset to be a little higher, but she carried her tail well nevertheless. She still needs to come together on the move, but her side action was quite something showing a free & easy stride. A very promising prospect, in the challenge she continued to show well whilst her brother decided it was all too much fun! BPB, RBB & BPIS.

2nd. Taylor’s - Graceminster Rhyme. Litter sister to above, what a super litter this must have been. Good shaped head, would prefer a neater eye. Super earset, good neck & shoulder, well boned front, excellent topline & stern set, good depth of chest & ribbing, good loin. Well made quarters, she moved out well. Won the award for the hound in best condition.

Junior Bitch (1,1 Abs)

Open Bitch (1,0 Abs)

1st. Clark’s – Boru’s Element of Surprise at Farlap (Imp Can). This 2-year-old lady doesn’t have the most furnished head, but planes & proportions are good & her dark eye shows a noble expression. Super earset with good curl, wide, dark open nostril. She has a good forehand, with straight well boned legs, good depth of chest & fill in. Well sprung rib carried well back, excellent topline & strong loin. Muscled quarters with well let down hocks & good feet. On the move she was sound out & back with a free & easy ground covering stride. BB & BIS, which she pipped the male for on profile movement.
