Golden Retrievers.

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge at this well-run show. Big thanks to my stewards, Julie & Fraser for all their help on the day. Good venue with a decent size ring. Although a numerically small entry, some quality dogs were present. No issues with bites, all appeared to be confident. P (2,0) Two very nice puppies in this class. 1. Foster’s, AURISTELA SINGING HINNIE JW. Lovely example of the breed & should have a bright future. 9-month-old, nice sized bitch, loved her clean balanced outline. Attractive blonde coat, sweet feminine head with super dark pigment, correct eye shape & colour. Straight front legs with ample bone, good feet, deep in chest, good length of neck flows into excellent layback & upper arm with her elbows close to her body. Super top line, her quarters are also very well constructed with a good bend of stifle, hocks vertical. Moved well for her age & strongly considered for BOB but lost out to the more mature Limit winner. Expertly handled. 2. Purdie’s, THORNYWAIT BRING ME LUCK. 11-month-old bitch, larger frame than 1, rich golden coat, balanced outline but not as clean as the winners, impressed with her construction during my hands-on & felt her movement was a shade better than the winners which caused my decision to be closer than I initially though. Very expressive head with a mischievous glint in her eyes, well boned straight legs with catlike feet, plenty chest, good layback & elbows close fitting, ribs deep, strong topline, ample rear angulation, although at times she was a tad over stretched spoiling her balance, straight rear hocks. Nice type. PG (4,0) Interesting class to judge, close decision with the top three all having different virtues. 1.Macleod’s, BLUEBRAES BIDEY IN AT ROCAMAR. 18-month-old impressive masculine dog who naturally stands four-square creating a very balanced outline. Happy boy, balanced & well-chiselled head with good pigment, correct eye colour & shape, another with a mischievous glint. Well boned front legs with cat-like feet, clean strong neck, his body is still maturing but he has an excellent front & strong quarters with a good bend of stifle and plenty second thigh. Moved with good drive, carried his tail a tad high at times. 2. Greig’s, STEVAL AGLOW WITH CRANNGARY. Immediately taken with the unexaggerated balanced outline of this 2-year-old male. After the initial circuit of the ring, thought he would be my winner but subsequently preferred the front movement of 1. Liked his size & substance, masculine head with a broad skull, strong neck, good layback, would prefer tighter elbows, strong topline, short coupled, excellent quarters with a well bent stifle. Overall, a nice example. 3. Palmer’s, LINIRGOR LADY OF CAIRNGLEN. L (2,1) 1. Beck’s, SIMON BASSETT DE RIA VELA FOR BEINANGUS JW. 3 year old male, maturing into a super example of the breed, clean balanced profile, shown in full mid-gold coat, attractive masculine head with dark pigment, correct eye shape & colour, well boned front legs with cat-like feet, deep in chest, good reach of neck, strong topline, well ribbed, elbows close to the body, his well-made front is balanced with his super rear angulation, hocks vertical, moved with purpose & a good length of stride. Liked him a lot. BOB. O (3,2) 1. Greig’s, STEVAL AGLOW WITH CRANNGARY.
