Golden Retrievers.

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge at this very well-run show. Big thanks to my steward, Kim for all her help on the day. Good venue with a decent size ring with a concrete floor. No issues with bites, all appeared to be confident. Generally impressed with the construction of the forequarters & hindquarters, however some of the movement was disappointing today. Only a small number of bitches present but all were of quality. PD (3,1) Two nice puppies to start the day. 1. Marshall’s, CADWST SPRING RIVER 6-month-old with a well-presented blonde coat, impressive balanced profile, soft but masculine head with dark points & correctly shaped dark brown eye, well defined stop, straight front legs, feet okay, has an excellent front which is balanced nicely with his quarters, hocks vertical, topline good for his age, moved well with style. Nicely handled. 2. Etherington’s, ELKARIMA’S GOLDEN RENAISSANCE RAFFIELO OF GEMASU, 10-month-old, larger frame & currently not as balanced as the winner, happy boy with lots of ring presence, liked his attractive well-chiselled head, correct eye colour & shape, straight legs, feet okay, nicely made with good ribbing, moved well. Preferred the front of the winner today. JD (3,1) Scott-Briggs’s, LARGYMORE RAVAGIER, stamp of quality on this dog, 16-month-old shown in a rich golden coat, clean outline, attractive balanced head with a dark eye, forelegs straight & good cat- like feet, as expected at this age his body is still maturing but he has an excellent front & strong quarters, a tad long in the body for me but kept a level topline standing & on the move, moved with plenty of drive & a good length of stride. Nice example of the breed, lost out on maturity to the Open winner. 2.Etherington’s, ELKARIMA’S GOLDEN RENAISSANCE RAFFIELO OF GEMASU. PGD (3,0) 1. Scott-Briggs’s, LARGYMORE RAVAGIER. 2. Swaine’s, OHANAGOLD APOLLO, mature 4 -year-old, not the biggest of dogs, lovely balanced profile, shown in full light golden coat, loved his soft but masculine head, dark eye always fully focused on his handler, cat like feet & well boned straight legs, clean muscular neck, good layback & return of upper arm placing his elbows well under his body, strong quarters with hocks vertical. Liked him a lot but lost out on movement today, moved with style but would have liked to have seen more drive & reach. 3. Parry’s, MITCHARRON SEREN'S LEGACY. OD (7,3) Plevin’s, BOWSHELLA ROUGH DIAMOND, mature 6-year-old, nothing flashy but a very well-made honest dog, scored very high on movement today, moving with plenty of drive, keeping a level topline & correct tail carriage at all times. A happy boy shown free standing on a loose lead, naturally stands foresquare showing an attractive unexaggerated balanced profile, masculine head with dark points & eye, strong clean neck, correct layback & elbows well under the body, strong quarters with a good bend of stifle & ample second thigh, straight rear pasterns. BD. 2. Scott-Briggs’s, LARGYMORE RAVAGIER. 3. Millington’s, GOLMAS GUARD OF HONOUR AT JARABEES JW. PB (3,1) Most difficult decision of the day. Two top quality puppies, lots to admire on both, just felt that the winner kept her topline slightly better. 1. Nelson’s, CADWST SONG OF SPRING, just a baby at 6 months, confident & happy, well-presented blonde coat, attractive outline, beautiful sweet head with good pigment & eye shape, well boned straight front legs with good feet, plenty chest, nice length of neck, shoulders well laid back and elbows close fitting, good topline, ample bend of stifle, hocks vertical, moved well with plenty of enthusiasm. BP & BPIS 3. 2. Price’s SYBITON BANANARAMA, another lovely puppy with a balanced profile, 7 months, shown in a rich golden coat, textbook front when viewed straight on, gorgeous head with correct eye colour & shape, straight legs with perfect round & cat- like feet, ideal length of clean neck leading to a good lay of shoulders & corresponding return of upper arm, topline fine for her age, ample second thigh, moved well with confidence. PGB (2,1) 1. Stokes’s, FLYNGALEE ONLY OAKLEY AT JOBEKA, 2-year-old shown in full blonde coat, larger framed bitch with an eye-catching profile, attractive feminine head with correct pigment & eye shape, lovely reach of neck leading to well laid shoulders, correct length of upper arm, good spring of ribs, very well off for stifle angulation, moved with plenty of drive. Very nice type but lost out on maturity to the Open winner. O (1,0) 1. Nelson’s, CADWST ETERNAL FLAME, top quality mature 5-year-old, another larger framed bitch, shown in hard condition & carrying the correct weight, well-presented mid gold coat, attractive feminine head with a happy expression, correctly shaped dark eye, scores very highly in front angulation, good length of neck leading to an excellent layback & return of upper arm with the elbows well under the body, firm topline, correct rear angulation. Very excited in this class & this impacted her movement, happily she had calmed down by the time she competed for further honours, moving with drive & good length of stride. BB & BOB (shortlisted in the Group).
