Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge at this very well-run show, held in conjunction with Cartmel Agricultural Show. Big thanks to my steward, Jayne for all her help & for keeping her enthusiasm going even in the rain. Retrievers (Flatcoated). No issues with bites, all appeared to have typical wonderful temperament. P (2,0) Roden’s, KENSEQUI SHE’S A LADY, 9-month-old bitch, very happy & determined to have a good time, fun but difficult to fully assess. Large frame, lot of leg just now but a pleasing outline for her age. Typical one-piece head with a dark brown eye, appeared to be correctly constructed front & aft, good tail set, steady mover when settled. Has potential for the future, just needs fine tuning. BP. 2 Brown’s, GUNNARAH’S LORD HANGMAN, well-behaved 9-month-old dog, very raw, one-piece head with a dark brown eye, still to develop in the chest & lacking ribbing consequently his front movement could have been better, rear construction okay, just needing time. J (2,1) Brown’s, GUNNARAH’S LORD HANGMAN. PG (3,2) Breen’s, SKYLOCH SAY IT LIKE IT IS, 4 year old dog shown in hard condition, immediately impressed by his ring presence, happy boy with good tail action, although he has an attractive head, ideally I would prefer slightly less stop, straight front legs with correct feet, well developed chest, nicely angulated front & back, correct ribbing , correct tail set, moved with drive although suspect he would have benefitted from a larger ring, well handled. O (4,1,1w/d). Close decision but just preferred the coat and the flow in the movement of the winner. 1. Whitaker’s EVENING MIST BLACK BRIANTA (IMP CZE), mature six -year- old bitch, attractive racy outline with good tail action, well moulded head with brown almond shaped eye, clean strong neck, correct layback & return of upper arm, pronounced brisket, good ribbing, level topline standing & on the move, well developed quarters with lovely vertical hocks, moved well with good footfall, although she carried her tail slightly high, bit short of coat today but could not be denied BOB. Nicely handled. 2. Hewison’s, CASBLAIDD ISLAND IN THE SKY SGWC KCWGC, 7-year-old masculine happy dog with good tail action, pleasing balanced outline, head nicely moulded with correct hazel eye, profuse coat, correct angulation throughout. Moved well but not the flow of 1 today. Retrievers (Golden). No issues with bites, all appeared to be confident. P (3,0) 1. James’s, TSARMONT OH SO STARSTRUCK (AI), 10-month-old, immediately impressed with the quality of this bitch, eye-catching balanced outline, well presented blonde coat, attractive head with dark pigment & dark brown eyes, happy expression, excellent front with plenty chest, level topline standing & on the move, correct ribbing. good quarters with nice straight pasterns. Slightly disappointed that her owner was unable to move her today, as her movement was not as steady as I would have liked with her second handler, but I saw enough to confirm her movement was sound. BP & PG4. 2. Price’s, JOMIAGAN STORM WARNING, dog of just 7 months, nicely handled, light golden coat, perhaps my favourite head of the day, gorgeous soft but masculine head with excellent pigment, great front angulation, straight legs & cat-like feet, level topline, well-made quarters, perhaps slightly too cobby, ideally, I would prefer a small increase in the length of his back to improve balance. Moved well, carried his tail slightly high. 3.North’s, SHINEHILL FLORENCE AT TIPPASTREE. J (4,0) Magson’s, CASTLEGOLDEN CLASSY GIRL, 16 month-old high quality bitch, shown in a profuse nicely presented blonde coat, balanced outline, attractive feminine head with excellent pigment & correctly shaped dark brown eyes, well boned straight front legs with tight feet, scores very highly in her front construction, strong clean neck, excellent layback & return of upper arm placing the elbows well under her body, deep in chest, good ribbing, level topline standing & moving, strong quarters with hocks vertical, moved with plenty of drive. Very well handled. BOB & G4. 2. James’s, TSARMONT OH SO STARSTRUCK (AI). 3. North’s, SHINEHILL FLORENCE AT TIPPASTREE. Y (1, 0) 1. Price’s, JOMIAGAN FESTIVAL FANTASY, alone but a worthy winner, 23-month-old bitch, nice type, attractive balanced smaller frame, light gold coat, well-proportioned feminine head with dark pigment & dark brown eyes, happy expression, strong clean muscular neck, straight legs, good front construction, strong topline, plenty second thigh & bend of stifle. A steady mover when settled, slightly high tail carriage. PG (2 ,0) 1. Burrows’s, DILWORTHEY SECRET SANTA. 2.Boyle’s, DILWORTHEY EARLY ARRIVAL my first thought when I watched the profile movement was that they were carbon copies of each other, so not surprised to see they are brothers. Two impressive 3-year-old dogs, close decision but felt the winner’s movement was slightly more positive today. Similar remarks apply to both. Shown in profuse pale coats, attractive masculine heads, strong muscular necks, score highly in front angulation with plenty chest, well ribbed, would prefer a slightly stronger topline on both, well off for second thigh with a good bend of stifle, hocks vertical. O (3,1) Magson’s, CASTLEGOLDEN CLASSY LASSY, 4-year-old mature bitch, attractive outline, profuse blonde coat, soft head with dark points & dark brown eyes, straight legs with tight feet, strong neck into well placed shoulders, plenty chest, strong topline, very good rear quarters with straight rear pasterns. Moved with drive, slightly high tail carriage, beaten by her daughter to BOB, I preferred the front construction & tail carriage of her daughter today. 2. Burrows’s, DILWORTHEY PRINCESS LOTTIE VW , 9 ½ years old veteran bitch who is a credit to her owner, lovely blonde coat, attractive head with correct eye shape, well laid back shoulders & elbows under the body, plenty chest, straight front legs with good bone, tight feet, strong topline, plenty second thigh with a good bend of stifle , straight rear pasterns. Very nice type. Unfortunately, not in the mood to move in the rain today, so difficult to assess fully but her movement appeared sound. Retrievers (Labrador). Really pleased with the depth of quality in the entry today. No issues with bites & all appeared to have great temperament. P (5,1) Nice class. 1. Smith’s, FLYENPYG JURGEN CHOP, 7-month-old black dog, a real cracker, very impressed by this youngster, balanced outline, naturally stands foursquare displaying his excellent front angulation & good rear angulation with hocks vertical & correct tail- set. Attractive masculine head with a brown eye & a happy expression, plenty chest, good ribbing, carrying the correct amount of weight, otter tail, moved very well with reach & plenty of rear drive. Final point today for a well-deserved Junior Warrant, congratulations. BP & PG3. 2. Lawrence’s, DUNNABBEY FUNNY GIRL, 9-month-old chocolate bitch, another very happy exhibit, balanced outline, clean-cut attractive head with a hazel eye, strong forechest, straight legs with well-made feet, nicely made throughout with well sprung barrel ribs, thick otter tail, steady mover but not the ring presence of the winner. 3. Cook & Thomson’s, EXELBY EMRYS. J (4,3) 1. Smith’s, FLYENPYG JURGEN CHOP. PG (6,4) 1. Smith’s, FLYENPYG JURGEN CHOP. 2 Scrimgeour’s, VELVETINE WILLOW, 4- year-old black bitch, another quality exhibit, clean lines, balanced outline, good typical head with a happy expression, deep in chest, nicely angulated front & aft, barrel ribs & thick otter tail carried correctly. Closest decision of the day just preferred the movement of the youngster. O (4,2) Again, two quality exhibits.1. Powell’s, SEATALLAN CHILLI, sire of my puppy winner with many similar attributes, 3-year-old black dog, full of substance & shown in hard condition with a correct double coat. As with his off- spring he also naturally stands foursquare displaying his excellent front angulation & good rear angulation with hocks vertical. Masculine head, happy expression with a hazel eye, strong clean muscular neck, barrel ribs & well set on thick otter tail, moved effortlessly with plenty of drive around the ring. BOB. Sadly, missed the group judging. 2. Smith’s, FLYENPYG PORKY PIG JW OSW, mature well-muscled 6-year-old yellow dog, loved his super enthusiasm, very nice type, attractive head with expressive brown eyes, clean balanced profile, deep in chest, straight front with neat feet, nicely angulated throughout, good spring of ribs ,tail never stopped, just a bit too excited when it came to moving, losing out to the more steady movement of the winner on the day.
