The British Gordon Setter Club open show

25/4/24

I would like to thank the committee for their kind invitation to judge and the exhibitors for the lovely entry.

Dogs

Veteran 1st Ellingtons Benbuie Thornbird Of Finnsfolk. & year old who presents a typical outline. He has a balanced head that shows good depth with good proportions. Low set ears. Lean muscular neck into well angulated shouders. Has good depth throughout. Super level topline. Moved out well.

2nd McCarthys Hernwood Boston High Flyer. A little finer in head than 1. He is balanced front and rear although I would prefer a little more both ends. Straight when viewed from front. Elbows well tucked in. Level in topline. Super oval feet.

Minor Puppy 1st Tyes Roydack Black Knight At Tymora. 7 months old and looking very rangy at the moment. He needs time to drop into his frame. He has a nicely proportioned head with a kind, intellegent expression. Level topline. Excellent tan. Movement very loose as you would expect at this age.

Puppy 1st Roydack Black Knight At Tymora

Junior 1st Smiths Glenmaurangi Apollo At Glenkinchie 13 months and looking very much the teenager. Attractive head with clearly defined stop. Lean neck into reasonable front. Excellent upright pasterns. He has a good spring of rib, with ribs well back. Slightly arched across the loin. Long from hip to hock. Co ordinated on the move.

Yearling 1st Ellingtons Beechlake The Storyteller Of Finnsfolk

Graduate 1st McCarthys Hernwood The Wizard Of Oz JW. Well proportioned male with pleasing head and expression. Well off for bone. He is a little stuffy in the neck and lacks flow into shoulders. I liked his level topline and he does have depth to the body. Super width of thigh with well set on tail. Steady mover.

Post Graduate 1st Poynters Hernwood Cooper King. Very well schooled and well presented. Not overly large and for me, I would prefer a more masculine head. I liked his front assembly, has ample forechest. Good spring of rib, strong level topline with tail well set. He won this class on his free flowing movement. Really positive coming and going.

2nd Edes Burrought Of Loch Leven At Glenarden. Much heavier throughout and not as stylish as 1. Attractive well proportioned head. He has good bone and excellent tan. Longer in the back and tends to dip his topline slightly.

Limit 1st Ashley-Turners Hernwood The Botanist JW ShCEx OSW. I have judged this male before and he can have a tendency to be lazy in his movement but today he really got his act together. He is strong in outline. Liked his dark eye and expression. Ribs well sprung with good depth of chest. Width across the loin. Level topline leading to well set tail. He moves on a good stride with ample drive from behind. Would prefer him to be less throaty but overall very pleasing. RBD

2nd Danks Colquhally Major Tom. Slightly smaller frame than 1 but beautifully proportioned. Very much an old fashioned type, really good to go over. Not a flashy one but very honest. Would prefer a little more flew to be critical. Lean muscular neck into well placed shoulders. Excellent spring of rib, ribs well back. Good rear angulation. Scored in topline and tailset. Moved freely and so sound.

3rd Morgans Caradilis Sky Rocket JW

Open 1st Baines Sh Ch Bryerdale Quantas. At 5 years of age this male is looking superb. He is a picture of balance and really what I think of when picturing a heavyweight hunter. His head is well proportioned being deep rather than broad. Dark eye. Long, lean neck into correct shoulder placement. Super quality bone. Deep in brisket, ribs well sprung. Correct bend of stifle. Short from hock to heel. Flows from his head to the tip of his well set tail. He covers the ground really well with an accurate positive stride. BD BIS

Bitches

Veteran 1st Slaughters Sh Ch Cairacailie Night Of Love With Ordett JW. 7 ½ years old. So feminine and balanced. Rounded skull with defined stop, dark eye. Quality bone, pasterns strong and upright. Level in topline with strength across the loin. Tail set spot on. Moved true with adequate drive, certainly not showing her age. RBB

2nd McNeils Lachmhor Sincerely Yours At Barrabrae. Preferred head of 1 and would like more clearly defined lip. Has reasonable front angulation, with excellent spring of rib. Not as firm in topline as 1. Enthusiastic mover.

Minor puppy 1st Phillips & Watkins Flaxheath Cover Girl. A quality puppy through and through who I am sure has an exciting future ahead. Flowing lines, from her nose to the tip of her tail. Has forechest in abundance, well angulated shoulders with elbows well tucked in. Excellent spring of rib. Level topline. Good width to second thigh, short from hock to heel. She needs to get more co ordination on the move but she is 7 months old and this will come with time. The drive is certainly there! BPIS

2nd Lines Flaxheath Centrefold. Litter sister to 1 and similar comments apply. At this stage 1 has slightly more depth throughout. But this puppy has good bone and good overall shape. Feminine throughout. A little erratic on the move but showed some positive, correct strides.

3rd Hardys Cafotaliena All Eyes On Me

Puppy 1st Greens Balnakeil Creag Rainich. Pleasing head with dark expressive eye. Low set ear. Has a level topline. Just looking a little tall and unbalanced at the moment but at just 12 months of age this could change. Moved ok.

Junior 1st Phillips Bishop & Watkins Glenmaurangi Aurora

2nd Speeds Ronaldsbill Magic Stars. Feminine in head. Good length of neck. Would prefer more return of upperarm but does have strength in pasterns. Good tan. Needs to relax on the move as she tends to roach her back slightly.

Yearling 1st Sandiford & Mazzeo Eusanit Marcella. 21 months. I really liked her balanced feminine head. Has a muscular neck, free from throatiness. She has good quality bone. Needs to develop in forechest. Correct, oval feet. She scores in topline and tailset. Well angulated rear. Impressed on the move with a free, easy stride.

Novice abs

Graduate 1st Hardys Cafotaliena Hello My Love. Really loved her classic head, rounded skull, beautiful expression. She has a lengthy neck which blends cleanly into adequate shoulders. Excellent spring of rib and ribs well back. Super level topline that flows to well set tail. She just needs to strengthen in rear which showed when moving away.

Post Graduate 1st Pallisers Lignum Oro JW. One that I have judged previously and done well. Super head which is so correct. She is balanced throughout and presents a classic outline. Coat in lovely condition. Unfortunately she threw it away on the move today and would not settle, making her look uncoordinated, such a shame.

Limit 1st Horns Ordett Love Me Do At Keaswood JW. This young bitch looked a picture today. Good depth and width of muzzle. Muscular neck to clean shoulders. Elbows well under her. Excellent bone. Corresponding rear angulation, good width to second thigh. She moved well on a good, easy stride.

2nd Mappins Bryerdale Qangeroo. A heavier made bitch but still has quality. Preferred head of 1. Has good depth of chest, strength over the loin. Pleasing rear angulation. Would prefer clearer tan on legs. Moved out well with a good stride.

3rd Hardys Cottonstones Evergreen With Cafotaliena

Open 1st Johnstons Sh Ch Glenquin Phoenix 5 year old bitch. Super quality. So balanced throughout. Has substance but remains feminine. Strong neck into well placed shoulders. Has super boneExcellent spring of rib, ribs well back. Excels over the loin, well set tail. Correct rear angulation. She moves with purpose, showing excellent stride and drive. BB

2nd Greens Balnakeil Creag Na Caillich. Level topline, straight front. Movement was quite erratic today.
