National Working & Pastoral Breeds Open Show

Dobermanns

Many thanks to the committee for the opportunity to judge at your well run show. Thank you to the exhibitors for bringing your lovely dogs under me, they all are a credit to you. All dogs had good dentition. Extra thanks to my extremely helpful and efficient stewards Chris and Linda Pack for keeping everything running smoothly.

Puppy (3,2):

1st – Pollard’s Shalissa’s Hot Toddy at Whizzbean – A beautiful black and red rust bitch of 9 months. This girl benefits for a wonderful overall shape. Everything is balanced, with elegance and substance without being overdone. Approached from the front you can immediately see she’s a bitch. She has a feminine wedge shaped head of equal proportions topped with correct high set ears and the darkest of eye. She is well angulated front and rear with straight strong front legs and straight hocks on the rear. She stands on the tightest of feet. She has a good spring of rib and a firm topline. On the move she really showed that balance with fantastic reach and drive. BP and RBOB. I was so pleased to see her take WPG4.

Junior (3,2):

1st – Merrett’s Korifey Sweet Child of Mine JW - A standard sized black and red rust bitch of 14 months. She has a very strong head with the darkest of eye and small high set ears. She has strong straight front assembly and tight feet. She is well balanced and has a good turn of stifle and straight hocks. One who I have judged and admired before, sadly today her condition let her down as she was carrying a touch more weight than I would prefer.

Post Graduate (2,1):

1st – Mackintosh-White’s Teuschons Shadow Spell – A 2 year old black and red rust bitch built in a slightly larger mould than the previous class winners. She has a strong wedge shaped head with lovely almond shaped eyes and high set ears. She has parallel planes of good proportion. She has a long lean neck and good forechest with straight legs and strong bone. She is well angulated front and back and has a strong sloping topline to her well filled croup. She gave her handler a hard time but she was handled well and when settled moved very well holding her topline.

Limit (5,2):

1st – Merrett’s Grafmax Titania – Another who I have judged and appreciated before. An elegant, standard 3 year old black and red rust bitch. She carries a beautiful outline that the eye flows over and has matured well since I last saw her. She has a feminine head of correct proportions and parallel planes. She has the darkest of eyes and small high set ears. Straight front legs and a good turn of stifle and straight hocks on the rear. She has a good forechest and a strong topline. She was handled extremely well and moved beautifully with reach and drive that showed the balance in her angulation. She was in strong contention for BOB however sadly was spooked in the challenge.

2nd – Wilson’s Pursang Shimmy Shimmy Ya JW – This strong brown and red rust male of 20 months is extremely mature for his age. He is very solid and all male. There is a lot to like about this young dog. He has plenty of bone and a lovely body shape. He has dark almond shaped eyes with high set ears on a blunt wedge shaped head with good underjaw. He has a strong neck leading into a well angulated front on straight strong legs. He has good forechest and a strong slightly sloping topline leading to a well angulated rear. He moved well once settled. For me he lost out to 1 on his head, I would prefer slightly less stop and his planes to be more parallel.

3rd – Maciejewska’s Ballerina Rock Monolith (Imp Hu)

Open (2,1):

1st – Robertson’s Cockneyoka Dire Straits – I have watched this 3 year old black and rust male in the ring many times and today he really brought his A game and shone. He is a solid and well balanced male who presents a square outline. He is of standard size with good bone. He has a good head with correct planes and the darkest of eye in the correct almond shape. He has high set ears. His strong neck leads to well angulated shoulders and good forechest. He has a strong slightly sloping topline that he retained on the move. He has a good tailset and rear angulation. Today on the move he really came to life, reaching well and driving with power. He could not be denied the BOB. Pleased to see him shine in the big ring and take WG2 in a packed quality group.
