South West Essex Canine Association Open Show

Monday, 26th August 2024

Many thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge at this well-run show and to my efficient stewards for their help on the day. Thanks to all the exhibitors for your entries including those who were unfortunately unable to attend on this occasion. Thank you to everyone who came for giving me the opportunity to go over your lovely dogs.

Irish Setters P (2,1) 1 Dewar, Gwendariff Bobby Dazzler (IKC) Alone but a very promising puppy coming up to 10 months old. Pleasing head with correctly shaped dark eyes, sufficient stop and a square finish to his muzzle. Well laid shoulders into gently sloping topline with a good bend of stifle. Slightly long in body compared to height at this stage. Good bone and carrying the right amount of weight for his age with a rich dark coat. When settled moved steadily showing drive from the rear. Delighted to see him take 2nd in the Gundog Puppy Group. G (3,1) 1 White, Paduan Feel the Love. Pretty girl of 14 months. She has a balanced outline, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders and a gently sloping topline. Correct upper arm angulation and well bent stifles. Dark eyes under raised brows and low set ears. Needs to mature in body and coat. Moved steadily when settled. 2 Pewsey, Wentworth White. This 14-month-old boy was giving his handler a hard time today. Not as good in front angulation as 1st, but he has a sloping topline with well bent stifles and good tail set. Would prefer a more refined head and lower ear set, but he has correctly shaped expressive dark eyes and a lovely rich dark straight coat. Nice tight feet. Movement difficult to assess today due to his exuberance! PG (3,1) 1 Parsons, Forfarian Flutt’r Yer Lashes at Bransett JW. Quality girl with a very pretty, refined head. Low set ears and correctly shaped dark eyes with raised brows showing good stop. Melting expression and she has a nice square finish to her muzzle. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Balanced angulation fore and aft. Moved well using her tail. Just lacking a little in feathering today compared to her kennel mate. Res BOB 2 White, Paduan Golden Girl. This girl has a well-balanced outline overall. Well laid shoulders into a nice firm topline and good tail set. Straight front, neat feet. Well bent stifle and hock joints. Lovely dark, straight coat. Feminine head with dark, correctly shaped eyes. Moved steadily. O (9,4) 1 Parsons, Quensha Thinking Out Loud at Bransett, Handsome boy giving his owner a bit of a hard time at first. Super flowing, balanced outline with nothing exaggerated. Good bone and substance. Masculine head with expressive, dark, correctly shaped eyes. Neck fits cleanly into well laid shoulders, firm topline into good tail set. Deep chest, well sprung ribs and well bent stifle. Ample feathering. Moved with drive round the ring. BOB (Pleased to see him take Gundog Group 4) 2 Walters, Gwendariff Yella Jumper (IKC) This mature girl has a balanced outline with a good reach of neck fitting cleanly into well laid shoulders. Presented in lovely coat and condition. Straight front, deep chest and well sprung ribs. Good bend of stifle and short hocks. Feminine head with sufficient stop but would prefer darker eyes. Ears set on low and she has a square finish to her muzzle. Moved well. 3 Jones, Gwendariff Gooseberry Fool.
