Yorkshire Gundog Club

The Yorkshire Gundog Club Premier Open Show

Sunday, 27th October 2024

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge and to the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over your lovely dogs. Thanks to my experienced steward who kept the ring running smoothly. I very much enjoyed my day.

Irish Setters

Puppy (4,1) 1 Ashley-Turner, Riverbrue The Joker. Very promising puppy dog of just 6 months. He has a pleasing balanced outline with an arched neck leading to well-placed shoulders and a gently sloping topline. Well boned with a straight front leading to lovely neat feet. He has enough upper arm angulation and well bent stifles. Attractive head showing stop and occipital protuberance, lovely dark correctly shaped eyes and low set ears. Moved steadily around the ring for one so young. BP 2 Scott, Scokira Cassiopeia. Sweet girl also just 6 months old at her 1st show and a bit of a fidget for her handler. Nonetheless she managed to get her act together better than her litter sister who was placed 3rd. Nice reach of neck, slightly arched. Firm, level topline. Moderate front and rear angulation. Lovely dark, well-shaped, expressive eyes. Needs to body up and settle on the stack and on the move but she has plenty of time on her side. 3 Simmons, Scokira Starry Night. Well done to the handler for persevering with this baby who was giving her a really hard time today. More ringcraft would be beneficial for both.

Junior (4) 1 Lorrimer, Gwendariff Disco Dazzler (IKC). Very promising 12-month-old youngster just out of puppy. He has a lovely racy outline, his neck fitting smoothly into well laid shoulders. Correct sloping topline leading to well set tail. Well angulated fore and aft. Good depth of chest. Correctly shaped dark eyes with a gentle expression. Moved steadily. Close up for BOB. Just needs to develop more and strengthen in his rear quarters. RBOB 2 Kassube & French, Thendara Hot Diamond and Cararua. Tall boy of 13 months who will need time to fill out his frame. Pleasing outline overall, good reach of neck fitting cleanly into shoulders. Gently sloping topline. Pleasing forechest and depth to chest. Well angulated fore and aft. Super tight feet. Pleasing head with dark eyes and low set ears. Needs to body up and settle on the move. 3 Sansom, Bardonhill Little Sister

Novice (2) 1 Lorrimer, Gwendariff Disco Dazzler (IKC). Repeat 2 Kassube & French, Thendara Hot Diamond and Cararua. Repeat

Graduate (6,2) 1 Kassube & French Twoacres Chocolate Delight By Cararua. Well balanced girl overall. Good reach of neck fitting cleanly into shoulders and a gently sloping topline. Richly coloured dark, smooth coat with sufficient feathering. Pretty headed girl with dark eyes, good stop, low set ears and a sweet expression. Well sprung ribs and excellent bend of stifle. Well-developed first and second thighs enabled her to move with drive round the ring. BOB 2 Miller, Alolfrana I Gotta Feeling Of Millthyme. 19 months boy with a lovely rich coat colour and developing good feathering. His neck fits cleanly into well laid shoulders and he has a nicely sloping topline. Good depth of chest, straight front and nice tight feet. Would just prefer a bit more bend in the stifle. Good stop with raised brows and correctly shaped dark eyes. Neat ears set on low. Moved steadily. 3 Weatherilt, Cherrorvale Dublin Bay.

Post Graduate (1,1)

Open (3, 2) 1 McDowell & Stewart, Gwendariff Back Off Baby. 5-year-old mature lady with a rich coat colour but lacking a little in feathering. She has an attractive refined head with correctly shaped dark eyes and low set ears. Her neck fits cleanly into well laid shoulders. Her topline is firm, slightly sloping and leading to a correct tail set. She has a good depth of chest and very well sprung ribs. Well-developed quarters with a good bend of stifle. She moved soundly with a happy tail action. Just felt she was carrying a bit too much weight today.
