Many thanks to Leicester City Canine Society, for inviting me to judge Afghan Hounds at their open show and kindly supported by Midland Afghan Hound Club. Thank you to my two stewards on the day for their assistance and professionalism in keeping things moving. Thank you to all the exhibitors for your entries and for allowing me the privilege of judging your Afghans.

Puppy (3, 0 abs)

1. Hughes Istani Bob Dylan at Finkime (D) 11 month old black and cream, masculine head with dark eye, scissor bite, good length of neck into shoulder, adequate angulation front and rear, well bodied with nice depth of chest, level topline, good ringed tail and set, excellent coat condition, well presented. This boy still needs time to develop and unfortunately, the ring was not of suitable size for him to get into his usual striding movement.

2. Kirk & Williams Istani Omar Sheriff (D) 11 month old shaded masked cream litter brother of (1), nice head with dark eye, good length of neck, well bodied with big feet, level topline with prominent hip bones and good fallaway, nice rear angulation and a nicely ringed tail. A bit of a handful and very lively on the day for his owner/handler, unable to assess him properly on the move, just needs more time and practice.

3. Cook Grace Kelly (B)

Junior (2, 0 abs)

1. Heritage Amaserwah Any Way The Wind Blows at Jazzmeenah (IKC) (D) 16-month-old black masked gold who on the day ticked all the boxes! A lovely looking hound with an impressive outline, lovely head with dark eye, good scissor bite, good length of neck, good front and rear angulation, good depth of chest, correct level topline, good fallaway, nicely low set ringed tail, excellent movement, excellent coat condition, well-handled and one to watch in the future. Very pleased to award BOB to this boy and even more pleased to hear that he won Hound Group 1.

2.  Cook Darling Boy Paul Ogrady (D) 12 month old black masked cream, pleasing head, dark eye and good neck length, nice firm topline with ringed tail, good angulation front and rear, stood well with lovely outline, excellent coat condition, well presented and moved extremely well in the ring, would have liked a little more body. (BP)

Limit (2, 0 abs)

1. Drage Zendushkas Born To Run (D) 2 year old self masked gold with nice head and dark eye, ears set back and low, good scissor bite, nice strong long neck leading to well laid shoulders, deep chest, level topline with natural saddle, well set ringed tail, very muscular with good angulation front and rear, excellent coat condition, still a little wayward on the move. This boy has continued to improve for the better; I whole-heartedly applaud the owner/handler for persevering and look forward to seeing this boy develop further.

2. James Katanga’s Captain America (D) 2 year old self masked black, masculine head with strong neck, nice dark eye, ears set low with good length, preferred the front and angulation of (1), handled and exhibited well on the day.
