Newark & District Canine Society Open Show

17th February 2024

Judge: Richard Lee

Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

I would like to thank the committee of Newark & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge, and my stewards who kept the ring running efficiently. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for their and attendance, I was delighted with the quality of the dogs to go over. It was lovely to have only one absence across all classes. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the puppy class which bodes well for the future of the breed.

Puppy: (14,1)

1st Koster-Tindall’s Harana Now You Has Jazz. Stunning Black & Tan puppy dog with plenty of gleaming raven black coat with tan in all the right places. Correct scissor bite, good pigmentation, lovely head and expression. A well balanced puppy who moved with good reach and drive around the ring. I later learned that this is the son of the Best of Breed today. Best Puppy in Breed and later awarded Puppy Group 3.

2nd Jackson’s Fortunamajor Perseus. Another lovely puppy, a Tricolour with lots to like. Presented in immaculate condition. Handsome head with round, dark eyes, well set ears, good pigment and enough cushioning. Well angulated and used this to good effect as he moved gracefully and confidently around the ring. Pushed hard for first place.

Junior: (3,0)

1st Jackson’s Fortunamajor Perseus. (see 2nd in Puppy class)

2nd Vella’s Cinderaic Kerry. Blenheim bitch of almost 12 months. Rich chestnut markings and presented in great condition. Pretty head, dark eyes, correctly set ears with enough feathering, correct scissor bite. Well balanced with a good topline that she held on the move. Animated and happy in the ring. Moved well and attentive to handler.

Post Graduate: (5,0)

1st Walker’s Carsan Red Rebellion. 2 year old Ruby dog. Presented beautifully with plenty of gleaming rich red coat. Handsome head with good leathers, dark eyes, soft expression. Well angulated and moved well with good reach and drive, maintaining a level topline at all times. Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Lunt’s Oaktreepark Royal Ava. A bitch I have judged before and found she has matured nicely. Blenheim with spot, well broken rich chestnut markings. A very pretty head, with round dark eyes, good pigmentation and well set ears, correct bite. Well angulated and moved well. Attentive to handler.

Open: (8,0)

1st Spall & Clark’s Llapsttam’s Sir Prize. Beautifully presented 21 month old Black & Tan dog. A lovely masculine yet soft expression, round dark eyes, good cushioning and correct scissor bite. He was animated and happy, trying to please his handler. Well balanced with good angulation and a spirit-level topline which he held on the move and standing. Great tail set. Best of Breed and went on to be awarded Toy Group 2.

2nd Koster-Tindall’s Harana Pinball Wizard. Another lovely 21 month old Black & Tan dog. A dog I have judged before, and he has matured beautifully. Handsome head which has really improved with round dark eyes, black nose, correct earset. I just preferred the head of the winner of this class today. Well balanced and well angulated. He moved well, stood well and formed a lovely silhouette on the stand.
