Alaskan Malamute

Graduate (2,1)

1st Mrs E & Mr S Edwards & Molloy – Wintablizard Happy Hour. What a lovely way to start the day with this promising youngster. Although raw this girl has a lot to like. A strong head with good muzzle to skull ration. Skull broad between well set small ears. Lovely dark almond eyes which are set well in head. Correct bite. Good length and arch to neck which leads into a solid front assembly. Straight limbs and good bone. A little loose in pasterns. A well filled, deep chest for age. Straight back which leads into a high set tail which she carried well. Where this girl excels is her rear assembly, strong and muscular with hocks that are well let down. Super angles throughout which gives her a great rear drive. On the move she moves with purpose and drive. Once she builds that confidence she will command the ring as her own. That said I was pleased to award her BOB, BPIB WG4, WPG1.

German Pinscher

Graduate (2,1)

1st – Ms T Kohlman – Brintala Apollo. I liked this exhibit a lot. I don’t want the owner/exhibit to get disheartened by the lack of confidence. Please persevere with him as he is too nice to stop showing. I spent longer on this dog to try and gain a bit of confidence. A red dog with a masculine head with great proportions. Slight stop. A deep muzzle, free from lippiness. Correct oval eyes with dark pigment. Nose is dark. A good length to well arched neck which flows into well laid back shoulders then drops into straight front limbs with elbows tight to a deep well filled chest. Plenty of forechest. Where this boys scores highly is his short and compact yet muscular couple. Back is straight and slightly sloping with a high set tail however today wasn’t using it to his advantage. Great angles in rear. On the move I could see enough drive in rear which propelled him around the ring maintaining his topline at all times when settled. Had he been more forward and confident in himself I would have considered him for the top spot in the group. BOB

Newfoundland

Open (3,2)

1st – Mr G, Mrs T A & Misses E G & F L Coldwell – Twillin Gate Villustrious Among Zentaur (IMP BEL). This girl has so much ring presence for such a youngster. On initial inspection you may think she is on the larger side, that said once you get your hands on her she is full of quality under that coat. I wouldn’t expect the head to be mature and finished at this stage however this girl’s head is beautifully feminine being broad with a short, deep muzzle enough stop and good bite covered by enough lip. Her eyes are so endearing being set well. Enough underfill under the eye for her age. Ears are placed and set well on head finishing off the whole soft expression. If you want to see a super front assembly of a Newfoundland look no further. She has such a great length and strength to neck, flowing into a good lay back of shoulder. Super bone with straight limbs with elbows close to chest. Superb feet. Still developing in chest but that will come as she matures. Lovely topline with it being broad and muscular and a tail that just carried on the extension of the topline. Loved the rear assembly just as much as the front, having enough angulation and well muscled. On the move is where this girl owns the ring. She is balanced, with a super reach in front and super drive in rear with that slight roll in the movement. I’d love to get my hands on this girl in a few years when she is finished. I think she will push the very best and a bright future is ahead of her. BOB and pushed the Bullmastiff for the top spot. WG2

Ears are good and used at all times. Neck is of good length which leads into a good shoulder placement. Id encourage this exhibit the try and get the dog to lean forward into the stand as it can make her appear that she has a dip in her topline. Tail is set on well. Straight front legs with elbows tight to a deep chest. Good underline. Good angles in rear and it is well muscled. Needs to engage on the move as can get a little messy in rear.

AV Veteran (5,1)

A feminine bitch throughout who would give the younger exhibits a run for their money. Lovely head with level planes of good length and depth. Lovely eyes and placed well in the head. A super headpiece with a broad muzzle with enough padded lips. Good skull to muzzle ratio. Dark broad nose with super open nostrils. Strong underjaw. Such an endearing eye which is set well in the head. Enough Stop. Lovely length to neck leading into a super strong topline finished with a high set tail. Just tends to throw front a little when not engaged with the rear.

A.V Champion (3,2)

1st - Mr GJ, Mrs T A & Misses E G & F L Coldwell - Ch Zentaur This Is Jam Hot (AI) JW ShCM OSW. A 5 year old brown Newfoundland bitch who I have admired ringside since she was a puppy and I was so glad I was able to get my hands on. She is an absolute dream to go over and your hands flow from one part of the next. A beautifully developed feminine head being Broad. Eyes are set well in head with good colour for a brown. Good length to muzzle which is well cushioned and covered. Good bite. Ears set well back. Where this girl really scores is that strong neck which leads into a super layback of shoulder. Elbows are tight to a well filled chest and front limbs are clean and straight with feet that are well formed. The top line on this girl is one of the best I have ever seen, it’s level, it’s broad and stays like that at all times finished with a muscular loin. Tail set is ok. When you think this girl has shown you the best she’s got you move onto the rear. A strong and powerful rear which is well muscled and not over done in angulation. Good coat throughout. So with all this in mind all she had to do was move right and boy did she move. Light on her feet, super reach in front, that required roll in rear but still displaying drive. I’m not surprised this girl has her title!

When on the move this girl comes alive. She is parallel with free elastic movement: super reach in front and plenty of drive in rear.

Junior Handling 6-11 (3,2)

1st- Beau Casey aged 11. Beau was very smartly dressed and presented her dog in great condition. This partnership was empathetic either such great manners the whole time in the ring. When on the table the teeth were shown with no obstruction to my view. Need to brush up on points of the dog. I asked for a reverse triangle with a straight up and down. The accuracy of the shape was great but did break the golden rule of getting between the dog and judge on occasions. The handling is beautiful.

Adult handling 17+ (9,5)

What an absolute headache of a class this was. 4 handlers who have obviously done handling classes before. I wish I had more first on today’s occasion today as they were all worthy winners. I moved them several times and changed my position in the ring to try and catch them out but each individual was strong in performance hand changes were clean and shapes were accurate.

1st - Shelagh Crowther. The reason this partnership topped the class today was the husky didn’t change pace when changing hands on the move. My view was never obstructed.

2nd - Janet Rice- a seasoned handler who knows her points of the dog and is confident in her handling. It was such a close call between 1 and 2.
