South Of England Pomeranian Club
Saturday 1st June 2024
I feel honoured to have been brought forward from 2025 to cover the club show with a great entry. Everyone was super welcoming and I thoroughly enjoyed my day with my 2 super stewards who kept the ring running smoothly. As a Judge who is not a Pomeranian breed specialist, I have admired this breed for many years and my view on the breed as whole is positive. However, Pomeranians should be a “compact, short-coupled dog” I found quite a few exhibits to be long in cast and there is a wide variety in heads with the odd round eye. Movement was strong throughout both sexes and weights were good. I did find there were a few cream sables creeping into the ring so breeders should be careful of this. I was super pleased with my principal winners.
Minor Puppy Dog (6,1)
1st - Mrs C D Holman - Altina’s Kentucky. At 6 months old this boy has a bright future ahead. An attractive headpiece with a dark eye and placed well. Ears are of good size and shape which are placed and carried well on top of a flat skull. A well laid shoulder in to a super constructed front with elbows tight to chest. Straight front with small compact feet. Topline is good and held at all times. Tail is set on ok. Rear is well constructed which for age is covered with enough muscle. On the move this little man is light on his feet has a good drive and a good reach in front.
2nd - Miss P S & Mr N D’Arcy & Duffield - Paavali’s Ego. Another well put together puppy. Masculine headpiece with a flat skull and ears placed and carried well. Lovely dark eyes which has a cheeky look to them. Muzzle broader than preferred. Enough stop. Short neck leading into a compact body finished with a good tail set of good length. Good lay back of shoulder with elbows tight to a good depth of chest. Feet are tight and compact. Good rear construction which is muscled well. On the move there was a lovely reach in front just not quite the drive in rear as 2.
Puppy Dog (1,0)
1st - Ms S Smith - Sueacres Centre Stage. Another youngster who will challenge the older dogs as he matures. 11 month old who is balanced throughout. A masculine headpiece without being coarse. Beautiful eyes being dark with super pigmentation. Enough underfill for age. Enough stop with a good length to muzzle. What really finishes off this headpiece is the small ears which are placed well. Shoulders are well laid with elbows close to a deep well filled chest. Good bone with straight front limbs and tight compact feet all round. Topline was strong and finished with a tail of good length and well covered. Rear is equally matched as front. Moved out with drive and reach. BPB, RBPIS
Junior Dog (4,0)
1st - Mrs K, Mr N, Miss K P French- Norvanik Gold Smith at Bincombefarm. This dog was very unfortunate to meet my Limit winner today. I did call him back in to challenge for RBIS but unfortunately later found out he was in the main ring of the Champ show. There is so much to like about this dog and I am sure his title awaits him. As shape and size this dog definitely appeals. A super headpiece with great proportions. Masculine throughout. Flat skull with a super ear set and of good size. Eyes are dark with good pigment and placed well in head. Enough underfill. Good length to muzzle with a correct bite. Super neck which leads into a well laid shoulder with elbows tight to a well filled chest. Fine boned throughout and limbs being straight finished with compact feet. A super topline finished with a well set tail of good length and has plenty of covering. Rear has good angles and muscled well. Coat presented beautifully. This partnership is a joy to watch as moved at the correct pace to demonstrate lovely drive in rear and reach in front.
2nd - Mrs C D Holman - Altina’s Viva Las Vegas. Although bigger and slightly longer in cast than 1 there is still so much to like in this dog. A super headpiece with good proportions. Post Graduate Dog (3,1)
1st - Mr L & Mrs N Gooch - Lireva’s Well Fancy That For Cassibawn JW. What a cheeky little character this young man is. Unfortunately on today’s occasions he decided his brain was somewhere else. One of the better heads today with it being masculine without being coarse. Flat skull with super placed ears. A beautiful eye with great pigmentation. Enough stop and a refined muzzle. Well laid shoulders with elbows tight to a great depth of chest. Fine boned. Would like a slightly tighter pastern. Super strong topline finished with a high set tail which is carried well. 2nd - Miss Gaj - Fleurdelune Aquarius 2nd in Novice
Limit Dog (7,0)
1st - Mrs T K Berrington - Altina’s The Bronx at Sarasate. At just over 2 years old I am surprised this boy has not already gained his title. I have judged this boy before and he has matured so much. This boy for me is everything I want in a Pomeranian. He is a compact, short-coupled dog. He is most appealing for overall size and balance. He has a beautiful headpiece with a super eye which is placed well. A flat skull with small ears placed and used well. A refined muzzle. Super layback of shoulder with good return of upper arm. Fine boned throughout. Elbows are tight to a deep chest. Short neck which leads into a topline that could not be faulted with it being strong, level and finished with a high set tail that is carried well of good length and has plenty of covering. Rear is well constructed with good muscle tone. On top of all this he is presented with a beautiful coat of good texture. From the moment he walked into the ring to the moment he came in the challenge, he was attentive and on his toes and moved so soundly with excelled drive matched with a light clean reach in front. I could not deny this dog BD and ultimately BIS and I am sure he will gain his crown.
2nd - Mrs C D Holman - Altina Alabama True Romance JW. Another great exhibit displaying so many attributes of the breed. Super masculine headpiece with a super ears set which he used at all times. Eyes are slightly rounder than 1. Enough underfill. Good length to muzzle but a little broader than preferred. Super bite. This boy excels in his front assemly. Great layback of shoulder. Clean, straight, fine boned limbs finished with good compact feet. Neck of good length which leads into super strong topline. High set tail which is carried well at all times. Chest of good depth. Rear construction equally as good as the front. On the move he displayed a great reach in front and drive in rear.
Open Dog (6,0)
This class I really could have gone anyways as it was a strong quality class. But this is how I found them today.
1st - Mrs C D Holman - Ch Altina’s Henry Higgins JW. A beautifully present dog who knows his job and won this class on a more balanced performance. A masculine headpiece with the cheekiest of expressions. Super eye placement with good pigmentation. Flat skull with small ears placed and used well. Clean shoulders which are well laid. Elbows tight to a deep chest. Strong topline which is carried and held at all times. Tail is placed on high and carried well at all times and has lots of covering. A muscular rear which is advantageous on the move displaying drive and matched with the reach in front.
2nd - Mrs J & Mrs A Pike & Carter - Reta’s Sex in Flames at Breezelyn. This dog could and will swap with one on another day. He is compact and meets the standard in so many ways. A beautiful headpiece, masculine yet elegant. Dark, well placed eye of good shape. Super pigmentation. Enough stop which leads into a refined muzzle. Flat skull with small erect ears placed well. A super neck into well laid shoulders with a good return of upper arm. Fine bones throughout with straight clean limbs. Good depth to chest with plenty of heart room. Topline is level and held strong at all times and is finished with a high tail set of good length and covered well. Rear is well built with good muscle tone. On the move there is super reach in front but not quite the parallel rear drive that 1 has.
Special Beginners Dog (4,0)
1st - Miss F Wilkins - Klassna Sweet Baby Bear. A male of a bigger frame, that said he is balanced. A good headpiece being masculine without being coarse. Good eye placement, size and shape. Good length to muzzle although a little broader than preferred. Lovely flat skull with ears small and erect and placed really well. Neck of good length and in proportion to body. Topline good with high set tail cover well. Good front assembly with straight limbs. Feet ok. Rear has good muscle tone. Moved out with enough drive in rear and reach in front to win the class
2nd - Miss L J Cregg - Lireva’s Magical Dream. At only 6 months this puppy went better than it went earlier in the day for a previous handler. This puppy scored in shape and size however is a very raw baby. Head piece is good with good proportions. Refined muzzle. Lovely cheeky expression in eyes with super pigmentation. Good stop. Flat skull with small ears. Neck of good length. Topline is good. Just be careful when on stand as tends to stretch out too far giving the impression of being over angulated. Enough muscle tone.
Minor puppy bitch (7,0)
1st- Mrs C D Holman - Altina’s Arizona. At just 6 months old I was blown away how balanced this girl was. She still has some maturing to do but on today’s performance she was top drawer quality being compact and short coupled. A beautifully feminine headpiece with eyes of the correct shape placed well in head. Correct amount of stop with a fine tapered muzzle. Flat skull with the neatest of ears placed well on head. Super layback of shoulder with a super clean front assembly. Topline is solid at all times. Tail is set on high and of good length. This girl has so much character and was wagging her tail any time I came to see her. Chest still needs to develop. Lovely rear construction with good angles and good muscle tone for age. The only thing this girl had to do was settle into the move as I found her attributes impressive on the table. She didn’t disappoint. She was buoyant, parallel demonstrating super rear drive a lovely reach in front and I could not deny her BB, BPIS. One to watch for the future.
2nd- Miss H L Lambert - Spanapoms Queen of Spades with Pomstar. Another lovely puppy who was very unfortunate to have met 1 today. Head developing well with good proportions. Eyes are placed well in head although slightly rounder than preferred. Enough stop to a tapered muzzle. This baby is still teething but owner showed the teeth and everything is where it should be. Flat skull with small neat erect ears placed really well. A lovely shoulder placement with elbows tight to a deep chest. Straight clean front limbs with good feet. Topline is great being held at all times and finished off with a high set tail. Rear is well constructed. On the move the front has a lovely reach. In rear just not quite the drive of 1.
Puppy bitch (2,1)
1st- Mrs J & Mrs A Pike & Carter - Breezelyn Ginnovation. My notes said “Wild Child” as she really pushed her handler to the max. This girl has so much going for her and once she settles into herself she will blossom and push those at the top. Super headpiece with great proportions definitely one of the better heads today. Lovely eye shape and size which are placed well in head with good pigmentation. Fine, tapered muzzle. Enough stop. Lovely small ears which are placed on a lovely flat skull. Neck is short and strong which leads into good layback of shoulder. Super straight front finished with compact feet. Short back, short coupled finished with a high set tail of good length, enough covering and carried well. Rear is so well constructed with good muscle tone. On the move she demonstrated lovely reach and enough drive. Another very promising puppy.

Shoulders are well laid with elbows tight to a deep well filled chest. Enough fore chest. Good return of upper arm and straight limbs. Tail is set on well and is of good length with plenty of covering. Rear is constructed well and has ample muscle tone. Coat is of great texture. On the move this girl sure does know how to drive from the rear. She does however get over excited which cost her today on gaining any further awards.
2nd - Mrs L Beinarovica - Born to Win Junassminis with Kineticpoms (IMP LVA). At 14 months this girl has lots to like. Longer and cast and heavier set than 1. But a lovely head. Neck is short and strong leading into a great shoulder placement with elbows tight to a deep well filled chest. Straight front with good feet.
