Midland English Setter Society Open Show – 12/05/2024 - Judge Rhoneen Schoneville (Balvenie)
I would like to thank the Club for inviting me to judge and give thanks to the exhibitors who entered their dogs. It was a pleasure to be able to go over some lovely dogs today. This appointment was brought forward due to Marai Dobbie having to withdraw. I wish her the very best and hope all is well.
English Setter
Baby Puppy Dog or Bitch 1:1
1st 23 – Mcloughlin Mrs V & Miss K - ARABIN LOVE MAYBE
Blue Belton Bitch. Very pleasing on the eye. Well put together and balanced in outline. Friendly confident young puppy at 5 mths old. Well off for bone. Balanced head with a soft and friendly expression. Ear set low. Clean cut neck falling into well set back shoulders. Good depth of chest, elbows well let down and close to body. Rear angulation good with well bent stifle and good muscle tone for one so young. Lovey tight feet. Moved around the ring beautifully with head held high and tail slashing as she went, showing reach and drive. Coat soft and silky and of adequate feathering for her age. Still to develop on but a promising young bitch.
Minor Puppy Dog 2:2
1st 44 – Wilkinson-Sargent Ms H J - WALSHAW CAN’T STOP DANCING
Orange Belton Dog. Balanced in appearance, balanced in head with a well defined stop and moderately deep muzzle. Correct ear set. Muscular neck with a good reach, falling into correctly placed shoulders. Deep in chest with a good spring of rib. Well bodied and of moderate length. Balanced hindquarters with a well bent stifles and well let down hocks. Feet tight. Tailset correct. Good coat for his age. Moved true out and back showing drive in profile.
2nd 37 – Thomas & Sharples Mrs T J & Mrs M - KANIETTER SEA SHANTY
Blue Belton Dog. Smaller dog than my first place but balanced in appearance. Pleasing expression, well defined stop and correct ear set. Good reach of neck with adequate forefront and well placed shoulders. Ribs well sprung, moderate length with short back. Well bent stifle with good muscle tone for his age. Feet tight. Coat soft and silky, adequate for his age. Movement a little unsettled, preferred the movement of my first place on the day.
Puppy Dog 3:1
1st 8 – Ciaputa Mrs K A - RAVENSETT COTE D’AZURE
This Orange Belton Dog has a very pleasing balanced outline. Head of good proportions with a well defined stop and correct low set ears. Eye shape oval with a dark eye and good pigmentation. A strong lean neck, slightly arched. Well laid back shoulders, deep in chest, elbows well let down and close to the body. Moderate in length with a short back. Well sprung ribs. Good rear angulation with well bent stifle. Well muscled for his age. Coat soft and silky, presented in good condition. Moved very well out and back and excelled in profile showing good reach and drive with his tail slashing as he went. BPD BPIS
Veteran Dog 3:3
1st 1 – Arkley Mr P & Miss L - SH CH HARTSETT FLASH DANCE
7 yr. old Orange Belton Dog. This boy has the most pleasing, melting expression with a lovely dark eye, correctly placed ears, a well defined stop and a head of equal proportions. Good reach of neck and well muscled. Shoulder placement excellent, with a deep chest and good forechest. Nicely sprung ribs , well ribbed up. Good rear angulation and well muscled thighs. Nicely bodied. Tight feet. Tailset in line with back. A level topline held on the move. Moved true although a little sluggish today. Shows reach and drive. Well off for coat and presented well. BVIS
2nd 19 – King Mrs G - DOBBIES DELIGHT AT GRANTASTAR
This Blue Belton Dog is smaller than my 1st place but in proportion. Pleasing head and expression, dark correctly shaped eye, ears low set. Good reach of neck, deep chest and good spring of rib. Moved better in profile than out and back showing drive. Preferred the movement of my 1st place.

Junior Dog 4:3
1st 33 – Stewart & Quenby Mrs HS & Prof SM - TATTERSET STOLEN SILVER
A very smart young Blue Belton Dog, with overall balance. Appealing friendly expression. Head of equal proportions and a well defined stop. Head carried high and maintained on the move. Eyes of correct shape and dark with good pigmentation. Correct ear set. Deep chest and good forefront. Shoulders well laid back. Elbows well placed and close to the body. Ribs well sprung with moderate length of body and short back. Well off for body and bone. A clean outline overall with good front and rear angulation. Well muscled including 2nd thigh. Well presented with a soft silky coat. Moved very well and true showing reach and drive. Lovely slashing tail on the move and top line held.
2nd 2 - Arkley Mr P & Miss L - TATTERSET BLUE LORD
Blue Belton Dog. Litter brother to my first dog and of similar quality. Balanced head with correct shape eye and colour. Good reach of neck falling into well placed shoulders. Angulation good throughout, well sprung ribs. Elbows well let down and close to the body. Of moderate length and short backed. Well off for muscle. Lovely neat feet. Well presented with a good coat. Tail set correct. Moved well holding his topline and with slashing tail. Preferred the movement out and back of my 1st placed dog on the day.

Tri Coloured Dog. Evenly proportioned in outline. Pleasing head with a well defined stop, dark oval eye. Good depth of chest, presented well with a nice soft coat. I preferred the movement of my 1st dog on the day.

1st 20 – King Mrs G - SIRUS BLUE HEAVEN AT GRANTASTAR
Tri Coloured Dog. A very masculine head. Well defined stop, dark eye, oval in shape and correct ear set. A lovely reach of neck, well muscled and slightly arched falling into very well placed shoulders. Ribs well sprung, good depth of chest and elbows close to the body. Well bodied and good angulation throughout. Well muscled. Lovely neat, tight feet, presented well with a good coat. Moved well out and back and showing drive and reach in profile.

1st 32 – Stewart & Quenby Mrs HS & Prof SM - TATTERSET GOLDEN SUNRISE
This Orange Belton Dog had the most pleasing outline, balanced and in proportion of moderate length and short backed. Level topline which he held on the move. Very pleasing head and expression with a moderately deep muzzle, well defined stop, correct eye colour and shape and low set ears. Good reach of neck both muscular and lean falling into excellent shoulder placement, well set back. Deep chest and a lovely forechest. Forearms straight and muscular. Well bodied and toned. Well sprung ribs and deep. Loin wide, strong and muscular, stifles well bent, well muscled including 2nd thigh. Hocks well let down and straight. Correct tail set. Movement was as expected with this dog, true out and back and excelling in profile movement showing reach and drive, head held high and tail lively on the move. BD BIS
2nd 43 - Wilkinson-Sargent Ms H J - PHENSET FIRESTORM
Another nice Orange Belton Dog, well proportioned in outline. Pleasing head, good reach of neck falling into well placed shoulders. Chest deep, elbows well let down and close to the body. Of moderate length. Well bodied. Wide loin, well muscled. Stifles well bent and muscular. Neat feet. Moved well showing reach and drive. I preferred the tail carriage of my 1st placed dog on the day.

Lovely pup, Tri Coloured Bitch, well off for body and coat for one so young. Evenly proportioned Feminine head with a well defined stop, good oval eye shape and dark eye. Ears set on low. Correct bite. Long, muscular neck falling into well placed shoulders. Good depth of chest with ribs well sprung. Lovely forechest with straight forearms and well let down elbows. Good angulation front and back, of moderate length. Nice, tight feet. Tail set correct. Presented in good condition. Moved true out and back and excelled in profile showing reach and drive. Head carried high and lovely slashing tail on the move. A smart young puppy. BPB

1st 3 – Atyeo & Taylor Ms J & Mr A - RAVENSETT CAPPUCCINO WITH SAMELEN
Another nice young Tri Coloured Bitch pup of even proportions and well presented. Compact in outline. Evenly proportioned head with a moderate depth of muzzle and a well defined stop, ears set low and well hung close to cheek. Adequate reach of neck, good depth of chest with ribs well sprung and well back. Nicely angulated front and back. Moved as expected for one so young, needs time to mature on.
2nd 41 - White Mr A J - DROVEBOROUGH SILVER PEARL FOR PADUAN
This Blue Belton Bitch was longer in length than my 1st place and had less substance but has plenty of time to mature on. Lovely feminine head with a dark eye, defined stop and correct ear set. An adequate reach of neck, with well sprung ribs and pleasing rear angulation. Tight feet, good tailset. Moved well for a youngster.

Tri Coloured Bitch of 13mth, presented well and balanced in profile outline. A feminine head with dark eye, moderate depth of muzzle and well defined stop. Good reach of neck , falling into well placed shoulders, good depth of chest with ribs well sprung. A lovely forechest with well placed elbows. Good body and bone with pleasing angulation front and rear. Neat feet and good tailset. Moved well showing reach and drive.

1st 22 – Mckee & Westmacott Mr S & Mrs A - BRONZE BOMBSHELL
Lovely , pretty Orange Belton Bitch of good proportions overall. A feminine head with correct eye shape and colour, with good pigmentation. Low set ears and well defined stop. Good reach of neck. Good depth of chest with a nice spring of rib and well placed elbows. Over stretched by her handler which did not show her rear angulation off to the best advantage. Well off for coat and moved well.

Tri Coloured Bitch of even proportions. A pleasing feminine head with a soft melting expression. Dark eye with good pigmentation, a well defined stop and correct ear set. Long, muscular neck falling into well placed shoulders. A good depth of chest, well sprung ribs and correctly placed elbows. Angulation good front and back. Neat feet. Well muscled throughout. Good topline with tail set correct and lively on the move. Move out and back true and showed reach and drive in profile. A little on the thin side for me today.

Nicely presented Tri Coloured Bitch showing a balanced appearance. Feminine head with a soft expression. Good eye colour and shape with a well defined stop and good ear set. Long reach of neck, shoulders laid back with a nice spring of rib and good forechest. Well off for bone and body. Nice turn of stifle with hocks well let down. Good muscle tone including second thigh. Head held high on the move showing reach and dive with a lively tail.

A feminine Blue Belton Bitch, short and compact. Lovely head with a pleasing expression , dark eye with good pigmentation and a well defined stop. Good reach of neck, well placed shoulders, good depth of chest , well sprung ribs. Ok for body, good angulation throughout. Not moving too well today.
