London & Provincial Collie Club
London & Provincial Collie Club Open Show - 25th August 2024
I have always said that it is a privilege to be asked to judge any club show so when I was invited to do both the Rough Collies and the Smooth Collies I was honoured.
To also do Best in Show was the icing on the cake until I realised I had to choose between my worthy winners. In the end it was the young Rough Collie, Wray-Ramsden’s Takhisis Daggers At Dawn JW, who took top spot but the Smooths won the remaining top honours with Wensley’s Ch Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive JW taking RBIS, the super young puppy, Cole & Fort’s Shulune Imperial Rum Punch who won through to take BPIS and BVIS saw the smooth Benton’s Oakestelle Artemis ShCEx win over her kennel mate.
Rough Collies
A lovely entry of Roughs today of 32 dogs making 35 entries with only 4 absent,
It has been over 20 years that I first judged the breed & I have seen them change over the years.
I have to say that today I was pleasantly surprised with overall movement and tail carriages, credit must go to the breeders for these improvements.
Baby Puppy (5,0)So pleased that the KC have allowed the class at club shows, it can be a good starting point for the youngsters to hopefully have a relaxed and enjoyable start to their show careers.
1st. Walder’s Roughrigg The Life Of Riley At Hanvale. 4½ mth Sable D. The most confident and settled in the class. Liked his outline and pleasing head shape with lovely ears. Well made with good quarters. Moved well.
2nd Wray-Ramsden’s Takhisis Xtraordinary Lady. 5 mth Tri B. Promising baby, another of good shape through head and body. Well made all through with a lovely front. Not as confident on the move as 1st.

Well made forequarters with well laid shoulders and straight front. Level back over deep ribs to a well angulated rear. In good coat and moved with lots of enthusiasm. Super profile with reach and drive. Just needs to tighten fore and aft. Promising youngster. Best Puppy Dog
JD (1,0)
1st. Wray-Ramsden’s Takhisis Daggers At Dawn JW. 14mth Sable D. This young dog is so lovely to go over. On the stand he is of good type with correct outline and good size and today in good coat. Very pleasing head of correct shape and planes. Excels in front assembly, well laid shoulders with return of upper arm. Straight front and good feet. Firm back over deep ribs, correct through loin to a well angled rear, muscle developing nicely, with nice short rear pasterns. Stood out on the move, true from all angles and effortless in profile with reach and drive. In the challenge he seemed to move up a gear and took my eye to win Best Dog and Best of Breed then later on Best in Show.
2nd. Rowlinson’s Hanvale Alexander Mcqueen. This 12mth sable is another pleasing dog of good type. Masculine head with lovely ears and dark eyes. Would prefer a shallower stop. Well made forequarters and straight front. Level back over deep well sprung ribs to correct rear angles. Another one in good coat. Moved well with correct tail carriage but not a positive as 1st.

Well spring ribs under a level back through to correct rear angles. He was rather distracted today both on the stand and on the move. OD (4,0)
1st. Flowers’ Androma Dreamcatcher At Serenlas (IMP SVN). Standing alone but what a lovely dog looking a picture on the stand in good coat. Classic head of correct shape, correct planes, ears well set and a very subtle stop. A well made straight front with well laid shoulders . Ribs well sprung and deep under a correct topline through to a well angled rear. Super easy mover in the class with lovely head and tail carriage, but when it came to the challenge he seemed to switch off and gave the young JD the edge but he pulled himself together when called back to challenge for RBOB. Reserve Best Dog & Reserve Best of Breed
