Flatcoat Retriever

Thankyou to the Committee for their invitation to judge this wonderful breed and to my ring steward who was clear and precise in her announcements.

Huge thanks to the exhibitors for entering their wonderful dogs.

I've admired this breed for a very long time. They are unique in their character and personality. It's heartening to find exhibits that are well muscled and the breed has a good working side as well as showing.

Puppy 3

1 Fox's Westoncruive Ace of Spades by Blacktoft.

9mth male who commands you look at him when he stands so well. He stands on quality bone with well shaped feet and short nails. Forequarters have the true brisket with well placed elbows. Shoulders set correctly with a strong neck. Ribs are true leading into superb rear quarters. Tail set on correctly and carried level on the move. Going over him he has super muscle tone and this combined with his true construction enabled him to stride out well. All topped off with a young masculine head. Correct mouth. Head planes pleasing, good eye shape. Pleased to award him best puppy. Will watch out for this lad at shows to see him progress.

2. Romeo-Dieste Hopevalley Morning Xanadu. Almost 11 months. Smart youngster. Very well put together. Clean skull correct eye shape and colour. Lovely ears. Held herself so well stood and on the move. Good coat. Unlucky to meet winner.

3.Phipps, Baker, Baker Maddhouse never to much

Yearling 3 -1

1. Hedges Satinbaze Tranqui Sea

2. Pacey Satinbaze Tea for Two with Shelkaru

Litter sisters who are similar in type. Both have desired expression . Level topline on winner. Tail set well. Preferred the better set front of winner.

Graduate 6

1. Buckleys Blacktoft Brindisi by Buckleyhill. 2 Yr male of a sound construction all through. Not overdone in any way. Has a beautiful head with correct planes and mouth. Correct set eyes giving a good expression. Strong neck into well set front. Elbows set true. Another with good feet. He flows from his neck into a well made body but not overdone, ribs taper. Tail set on correctly and used well on the move. Rear quarters so well set and strong which gave him sound rear movement. Very nice youngster with so much more to come. Pushed for BOB but had to settle for RBOB.

2. Clarkson Hurstclough night owl at Flanova. Another smart boy who holds himself so true on the stand and move. Excellent front and rear. Masculine without coarseness. Pushed winner but his furnishings need to come through more.

3. Burrows I know him so well at Rokaness JW.

Post Graduate 3-1

1. Salts Levelmoor Blackadder. Has strength in neck and body. Plenty of coat. Moved out and round with free movement using tail.

2. Wilson Hambledowntor Pedro Ximenez. Deep brisket but found to be straighter in upper arm. Well made through body. Not at his best moving today.

2. Pingree Calzeat Gentleman's agreement JW SHCEX (Imp Swede). My notes say a beauty of a male. Bigger lad but balanced through. Has such presence about him. Stands well on good bone and feet. Moves so freely. Well muscled. Really liked him and couldn't deny his placing.
