Bakewell Agricultural & Horticultural Society

Bakewell Agricultural & Horticulture Premier Open Show

Please see attached critiques for 13th July 2024.


I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge at this established show. I was pleased to be the substitute judge for Setters.

Thankyou to my Stewards on the day who were very friendly. 


Hungarian Vizsla 


Junior 3 - 2

1. Williams Bournehouse Romeo 15 month male who appealed to me to award him BOB and group 4.

Such a well presented youngster who has plenty of qualities about him. In good coat and body. Pleasing in head with correct shaped flews. Correct mouth. Well constructed front assembly running into a firm body. Correct bone and pasterns. Great topline. Width to quarters pleasing. He moved out on a free and easy stride in the large ring. Will watch his career with interest.


Post Grad 4 - 2

1. Eames Karaszy Lance's Mor For Vadkartya. 3 year male. Good eye set. Correct mouth. Well muscled. Moved wide in front. Good coat.



2. Eames Vadkartya's Snapdragon

Femine bitch. Good outline. Straight front and pasterns. 

Not as free on the move as winner.


Open 2 -1

1. Eames Roxombury Stevie Nicks For Vadkartya Rbob love outline and shape. Steady and true on the move. Straight front

 Good bone , feet. Brisket to elbows. Expanse to thighs. Good coat. 


Irish Red/White Setters


Very difficult to assess some of the entries due to not being able to handle them.


Puppy 1

1. Jarvis Settersay Targaryen Lowdon 6 month male. Very smart youngster. Liked his head planes. Good eye and colour. Correct mouth. Well shaped bone and feet. Depth to elbow pleasing for a puppy. Well set tail which he used on the move. Strode out with confidence. Best puppy. Best of Breed. 




Junior 1


1.Ward Roanjora Cremant De Lux Copperwhite little nervous on the stand. Good pigment. Overall shape good but sadly out at elbow which showed on the move. Well developed rear. Reserve Best of breed.


Post Graduate 

1. Roanjora Cremant De Lux Copperwhite.

 Not able to go over exhibit.


Irish Setter


Puppy 1

1.Holmes Gwendariff Mr Blue-skya beautiful boy. Has a wonderful head and expression. Correct mouth. Outline very smart. Well laid shoulders. Stands on good bone and feet. Depth to brisket. Well turned rear quarters. Tail set on well. Moved smartly once he got into his stride. Pleased to award him best puppy and puppy group 2.



Junior 4

1. Hearn Cataluna Light of my Soul lovely male with a good head showing the attributes required. Muscled throughout. Shoulders set on correctly. Feet well shaped. Body deep running into good quarters. Tail set on well. Moved out really well.



2. Pickerill & Hambrey Scokira Emerald Moon sweet headed bitch. Little to choose from between these two. Another smart one who moved with a good stride. Femine but strong.

Post Graduate 3

1. Stevens Follybrook Firefly liked her head planes and eye set. Clean through the front. Good bone and feet. Held topline on the move. Well turned stifles. 



2.Walker Glenvarna My Girl

Good outline but shorter in the neck than winner. Body has depth. Good rear. Moved really well. Liked her head.


3. Dale Casachared Constance Tally of Aubanjon.



Open 7 - 1

1. Cohen Lynwood Merry May King with Shushana

A lovely boy indeed. Not an overdone dog in any way. On the stand his outline is classy. Beautiful front assembly complimented with a well shaped and strong rear. Head is classic. Correct mouth. Eyes and ears well set. Neck flows cleanly into well laid shoulder. Body has strength. Moved really well. Best of breed and Gundog Group 3.



2. Robinson & Rowbottom Lanstara Red Dress at Cherrovale

Femine head. Strong neck. Depth to brisket correct. Tail set on well. Good strong thighs. Moved true and steady

1. Hodgkinson - Rutherford & Rutherford Doji Smogetsu Twinkle you Tinkerbell at Chanderhill ( IMP FIN)

11 month bitch. Good size to length ratio. Beautiful head and expression kind eye. Good body showing substance and strength. Moved very smartly round the ring with a sure footfall. Best puppy, reserve Best if breed and puppy group 4.



2. Darwesh Chanderhill Smart Edition for Elizdad

Liked the outline of this boy but sadly he wouldn't let me go over him to assess. His movement is very pleasing. I hope he settles.

1. Hodgkinson - Rutherford & Rutherford Zorrazo from Pennies to Riches for Chanderhill (IMP HRV)liked this young bitch. Has a beautiful head shape and eye. Body is strong but not coarse in any way. Depth to brisket pleasing. Moved really well striding out. Best of breed.



GUNDOG GROUP

A very well filled group of 17 exhibits. I was spoilt for choice and shortlisted the group to find my final 4 placings. 


The winner was a very smart young German Wirehaired Pointer. Quinn & Skeemer Germanus Hotwyr Yindi. Only a youngster. Once settled he stood really well. Has great bone and feet. Front assembly true. Head is masculine and handsome. Good furnishings. Correct mouth. Body has power. Quarters are wide and strong. On the move he can be exuberant but once settled he fell into his natural reach and drive. Very pleased to award him the group. Good luck for BIS later.


2. Dunns Pointer Caithpoint Kora at Meadowpoint

Clean in outline nothing overdone. On handling her I found her to be well balanced and maturing at a good rate. Good stop and flews. Neck flows cleanly into well set shoulders. Strong in back. Well set quarters. On the move she has good reach and drive. Well done.

Puppy Gundog Group


1.

James Tsarmont Oh So Starstruck (AI) Golden retriever 

A very smart pup. Have previously done her well in a group. Nothing to not like about her. She has the darkest of pigment. Very kind head with good stop and skull. Ears set correctly. Clean neck that has strength. Good bone and feet. Body is strong and deep. Beautiful quarters. Tail set really well. Moves out so true. Well done and good luck for BPIS later.

 

2. Holmes Gwendariff Mr Blue-sky Irish Setter



3. Tavernor Cassom Dancing Queen at Regaltav Cocker Spaniel a little beauty. Very smart on the stack and sound on the move. Good bone. Stands well. Beautiful head and neck. Ribs well back. Correct turn of stifles.
