Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge this atmospheric and well-run show. There were, unfortunately, quite a few ‘accidents’ in the ring today, which, with the repeated mopping, left parts of the ring a little tricky to traverse for some of my breeds. This meant some exhibits couldn’t move with the gait (speed) that their confirmation suggested they could.
Australian Shepherd
Puppy 2,0
1st Martin’s Vegas Blackjack of Baiwells Royal Aussies
Dog 6mths. Showed beautifully for a baby. Good bone, nice feet, well-muscled, correct for topline and croup. Nice profile gait with correct extension. Lovely boy with bags of promise. BPIB
2nd Downes Acotar Feyre Via Draconis NAF TAF
Loved the level of exuberance on this pretty 6mth bitch. A lot to like. Good bone, nice head and expression. Didn’t quite have the profile movement of 1, on the day, but still very much a baby.
Open 2,0
1st Mee & Holligan’s Lamintone for a Reason (AI)
Dog, 2yrs. Lovely bone & muscle. Nice head and expression. Lovely feet. Good croup and tailset. Difficult, as shoulder suggests he would have more reach on the move, but a touch ‘strung up’ on the go which held him back. Very well presented, in lovely condition. A touch more practice by the handler would benefit him greatly. BOB
2nd Downes Damani Dream Miramax (Imp Rus)
Lovely disposition. Good bone. Front angulation is correct. Pleasing head and expression.
German Shorthaired Pointer
Open 3,2
1st Malins Keigame Quintessence at Benrae
In repose, this 5yr old bitch has a nice short back, fit feet and medium in size. Head and expression are pleasing. Well-muscled, shown in lovely condition but would prefer a tad tighter front coming to. Ring was a touch slippery on the day which I feel affected her overall look in profile. Could have been moved a little slower, which may have helped. BOB
Cocker Spaniel
I’ve found, increasingly, in this breed, that exhibits lack muscle, and are too fine boned, which is really unforgiveable on a gundog. Exhibitors must put the time in to prevent this becoming the norm. That said, I was happy enough with the condition of my main winners.
Puppy 4,0
A very hard class to judge. Puppies at varying stages of development, with some ‘a little unsettled’ on the day. I had to make some compromises, in order to award what was, I felt, the best overall. Having said that, all were shown in good coat and condition; lovely babies.
1st Williams Rosetta Queen Frankie
Still very much a baby but this 6mth girl had it together, more so than the others, today. Needs to keep her paws out the cookie jar as I definitely wouldn’t want her to carry any more weight. Nicely balanced at the moment, could do well if her development continues as it is.
2nd Carlin & Spencer Ace Admiral Rummage.
Nicely built dog, dark eye, good head. Profile is pleasing. Nicely put together and movement is coming on.
3rd Terry’s Shaggylands Midnight Train
This young dog’s worth a mention. Nice croup, easy gait in profile when he got it together. Just needs to come on.
Junior 4,1
1st Tavernor’s Cassom Dancing Queen at Regaltav
9mths bitch. Nicely put together. Cobby in type. Has an easy profile in movement, good croup and well-muscled. Lovely, feminine head and expression with attractive, dark eye. RBOB
2nd Terry’s Shaggylands Don’t Look Back
Still quite the baby, but has good balance, and profile is lovely on the move and in repose. BPIB
Post Graduate 6, 2
1st see previous class
2nd Kita-Oakes & Oakes Ludzska Royal Quesst
18mths male. A busy little man, nicely muscled. Scores well in head and eye.
3rd 121 Eisen’s Kerriglow Black Dove
Open 5, 1
1st Norris’s Joaldy Mr Happy at Amaranth
Handsome male who scores highly in head and expression. Shown in good, hard, well-muscled condition. Excellent bone and feet. Good topline and croup. Well balance with nice proportions. BOB
2nd Davies’s Annaside Winter’s Moon
Feminine bitch. Shown in first class, well-muscled condition. Nice head and expression. Tended to be a little strung up on the move at times, but when the lead loosened, she was ever so slightly better, out and back.
3rd Carlin & Spencer Ace Admiral Rummage.
English Springer Spaniel
Open 4,3
1st Smith’s SH CH Melverly Iridescent
2yrs bitch. Stood alone, but a worthy winner. Nice, honest bitch. Good bone and feet. Lovely
expression. Super ease of gait in profile. Nicely made, good for overall shape, and shown in good, well-muscled condition. BOB
Boxer
Puppy 1,0
1st Ramsdens Blazed Down the Lancs to Saburuko
6 months dog, with a lovely disposition. Very much a wriggly baby but when stood still has a lovely shape. Expressive, well-balanced head, dark eye correctly placed with goods and set. Movement still coming together but shows glimpses of correct profile gait. A promising puppy. BPIB & PG2
Post Graduate 2,0
1st Selbys Bantambox Cyndi Laupaw
Stands over a touch more ground than I prefer but this 2yrs bitch had such a lot to like. Feminine, with great head proportions and super underjaw. Wrinkled but not excessively so. Well-balanced throughout covering the ground with ease; super profile movement. BOB & G4
2nd Beaumont’s Beauimres Maddie the Baddie
Not quite so feminine as 1, but head proportions are good, with correct underjaw and ears. Scores highly for type and shape. Well-muscled, and although sound, not quite the movement of 1 on the day. RBOB
Samoyed
1st Brandenberb & Smith’s Nikara it’s Keats
Dog 9mths. Lovely make and shape in repose. Still has puppy action in front, but this will hopefully come with maturity. Excellent pigment and shown in lovely condition. BPIB, BOB
AVNSC Working
Open 1,0
1st 449 – Spencers Ch Padiky Starr Studded Skye JW
Bernese Mountain Dog, 8yrs. Well bone and nicely muscled. In great condition and coat. Super head, very expressive. Well put together, correct topline, good croup. Nice tail set and carriage. Covered the ground well in profile. BAVNSC
WORKING GROUP
It was a shame to not see the Dogue De Bordeaux in the group, but I hope I the exhibitor is now feeling much better. It was a small working group but was quality – well done to Ellis for sending such quality exhibits through. Would have preferred a slightly larger ring, but all, bar none, coped admirably.
G1 Austins Davistell Springsteen of Elbear. Newfoundland – Well angulated male with correct topline. Excels in make and shape. Good clean eyes. Good spring of rib and correct croup. Wonderful on the move
G2 Breretons Kiki Vom Anagastum. Rottweiler. Solidly muscled bitch, strong, yet feminine head. Easy mover.
G3 Pollards Shalissa’s Hot Toddy at Whizzbean. Dobermann bitch. Feminine, with lovely head and eye. Good feet, nicely muscled and moving well.
G4 Selbys Bantambox Cyndi Laupaw. Boxer (see breed)
WORKING PUPPY GROUP
PG1 Cannons Sacaria’s Blues. Dobermann – 11mths Dog. Well-muscled, solid, masculine boy. Easy mover out and back. His profile is just lovely. Super feet, correct bone with lovely spring of rib. Handled to advantage.
PG2 Ramsdens Blazed Down the Lancs to Saburuko. Boxer – Most improved puppy of the day! Lovely head and expression. Much better moving than he was in his breed class. Still very much a puppy but an interesting prospect
